The proof will be in the pudding. If these portfolios are able to govern, without too much interference, they'll make meaningful improvements in the next 5 years. @@LearningLife77 there's certainly parts of Joburg that's similar, and for seemingly arbitrary reasons sometimes. Like close to Ferndale where I use to stay, there was a clear split on the one side and the other side of Malibongwe. On the one side, nice coffee shops, restaurants etc. and fairly safe. On the other side it's V-Slots, loan sharks and many cell-repair shops likely laundering money or selling drugs, generally not safe. This is just over 100m of each other. In Cape Town it's real too for sure, big one for me is Hout Bay vs Imizamo yethu. That said, lots of Hout Bay isn't close to affordable to South Africans (those earning in Rand at least). Lots of US, UK-based home owners there, so comparing them with townships is going to be very unequal but the standard middle class white family is much closer in wealth to the people in the township than they are to the Hout Bay poms & Sea point expats... The nicest parts of Cape Town might as well be another country, since most of the property isn't owned by South Africans.

I didn't vote for a GNU. I think its going to make things less adversarial. Maybe ones ethics and resolution is diluted under one banner. Maybe there will be less corruption initially, but i think the corruption will spread.

Something is ethical or it’s not… there’s no question of dilution! Being adversarial means that each side is antagonistic, sharply opposed to the other, or locked into a deeply divided rivalry. That sounds to me like a perfect example of the political divide in our country. You either don’t understand what you’ve written or you’re living in another country.

I don't think it's a good thing, I'm not talking about a enforcing a divide so we don't agree on anything, rather that if there's something that needs to be disagreed on its less likely to to happen. None of us voted for the GNU, we were expecting a coalition government. The DA kept warning of a “doomsday” coalition.
I think the DA folded too easily, they should have got the 8 Cabinet Ministers they wanted.
The GNU story is not working out in Gauteng, those ANC / DA negotiations have collapsed. Will be interesting to see what happens there…
