    You’re not overthinking (pun ABSOLUTELY intended) about these songs at all. Link Click is one of those shows that wants the viewer to dive (the puns just write themselves at this point) more and more into its narrative. Absolutely wonderful analysis! This show is truly one of those that makes me wish I could go into the mind of its creator, because not only is the story itself enticing, fresh and exciting but the way it’s presented is even more mind blowing. Im both in awe and jealous of how well rounded this narrative is. I just know I’m gonna cry by the end of this show but in just a few short years it has made its way to one of my favorites

    I wouldn’t say that the lyrics are the only thing that spoils the show. Even the visuals spoil a lot. Like in Dive Back in Time, Lu Guang has many shredded photos, sleeping or dead Cheng Xiaoshi lying in a pile of photos with dark tapes around him, CXS reaching out towards the black films but LG facing the other way sadly, LG dropping the photo which transitions to CXS being wrapped around black film tapes which also coincidentally wraps around his eyes (implying he is dead).

      Completely agree, especially with seasons 1’s visuals. I didn’t look closely at dive back in time until editing this video but all the quick snippets of stuff between the dancing is so dark and mysterious, very weird compared to the rest of the opening. And there are so many details in Overthink too - Lu Guang facing the wrong way or the clock overlays on him or his hands explaining the timelines!

    There's a theory that Lu Guang thought about making it so he and Cheng Xiaoshi never met in a previous attempt to save him, but was unable to bring himself to go through with it.

  • @jiru9876
    @jiru9876 11 месяцев назад +225

    As much as I don't wanna believe it because I love happy endings, I think you might be right in suggesting that the series may end with Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi never meeting, or it's foreshadowed. The lyrics are one thing, but another jarring piece of evidence is the season 2 OP animation itself. We all know it reverses at one point, but what I actually overlooked before is that when the animation reverses, any scene with Lu Guang is effectively cut.
    The scene where he's falling with Cheng Xiaoshi is no longer there, the scene where he's confront Li Tianchen also isn't there.
    Lu Guang is there for a split second in the reverse portion, standing on top of the building with other characters like Emma and Qiao Ling before Cheng Xiaoshi falls, but as he does, Cheng Xiaoshi's arm obscures his figure, and the camera effectively pans AWAY from Lu Guang, actually cutting him out of the scene.
    I feel this is important to mention because this doesn't happen with the other characters, the other characters just move out of view due to the perspective of the building and the way Cheng Xiaoshi is falling, the only character who's deliberately cut out by the actual view of the camera (it pans to the left) is Lu Guang.
    However, when the line says "Am I destined to fall" I have something interesting. When Cheng Xiaoshi is falling off the building during the reverse portion (go to around 1:05 of the opening). His clothing and hair is actually trailing behind him loosely, and that's important because if you were falling with your back turned to the ground, that would not happen. Clothes and hair actually pull away from the direction you're going, especially at high speeds. For example, when you run forward with an unzipped jacket, the jacket flows behind you. When Cheng Xiaoshi falls during this reverse portion, his jacket is loose, which would indicate he's actually meant moving up, as if he were to be falling down in that position, the jacket would hug his back. However, his jacket at 1:15 does seem to hug his back.
    I think this symbolises how Lu Guang tried to change it (hence the hand touch) and it worked momentarily, but something sort of forces it back later.
    I'm also still trying to figure out the significance of the arcade machine during the start and end. Yes, it seems to be related to the plot with Li Tianchen and Tianxi and their parents, but the arcade machine, bear and gun are in 3D: *WHY?* It's driving me insane, because I KNOW that's intentional. Why spend so much time making 3D models only used for 5 seconds when your show is 2D? Why waste assets and budget on hiring 3D animators and renders? That would seriously up the production costs of the show, so why do that when you can save money by animating that segment in 2D? The choice of the arcade, bear and gun being 3D is deliberate; I'm convinced it's symbolism, but I still can't figure out why.

    • @Anonymous-jl9mq
      @Anonymous-jl9mq 9 месяцев назад +22

      Maybe it means that they play an important role in every timeline- like the gun being used to kill cxs which explains Lu Guang's terrified look when the gun is pointed at the other two...but I still can't explain the bear and vending machine, maybe they are important points in time; seeing that when the bear was ripped by that "father", it was kind of given some highlight. But I'm not sure😢

      Maybe it’s connected to how claw machines are often rigged & how was Tianxi’s toy was gained with their “last chance (coin)” just to be destroyed later (by a misunderstanding)
      Like CXS is the toy LG is trying desperately to grasp, but always slipping out reach & this is his last chance. Wether it’s rigged by fate or an outside force changing things for the negative- or if LG misunderstood CXS’s cause of death (or wrongfully blames himself) & that’s the cause of constant failure, who knows?

    • @KaylaCarr
      @KaylaCarr 7 месяцев назад +17

      I interpreted the line "Knowing it all, am I destined to fall, like once you did for me?" as Cheng Xiaoshi learning that Lu Guang has been diving in time to save him, and deciding to do a final dive back in time ("fall") to save Lu Guang, like LG did for him. Either LG sacrifices himself to save CXS, or CXS realizes that LG can't let him go or accept his death, and the kindest thing to do to free both of them is to go back to a time before they met.
      If CXS is the one diving, with LG having no memories of ever meeting CXS (and therefore the time loop he creates to save CXS never happens), that could be why CXS's clothes are falling in a weird direction, because now he's the one who's consciousness is moving forwards in time even though everything is reversing.
      I don't think this show will have a "happy" ending for them D: Seems like it'll be bittersweet at best (they both live, but one doesn't remember the other).

      Another thing that is cut out is the first frame where we see buildings in ruins which aren't there in the end. It's as if saying that's how everything should be in its right place if Lu Guang disappeared and if Cheng Xiaoshi was somehow sealed back

    Hello, thank you for theorizing Link Click. I always love this kind of discussion. Btw native Chinese speaker here. I can confirm what you said in 1:18 is true
    In the beginning of Overthink, someone did say 'Poor Lu Guang'. The original sentence is '陆光,你好惨呀' (Lu Guang, ni hao can a). But it's really vague. I didn't even noticed it before watching some certain theorizing on Bilibili
    Btw the lyrics of Flash are really crazy too. 'There's no chance to rewrite. Our story ended long ago', 'You are the reason I live, but you don't remember me', and also 'Just a loop. A bored 'n loop', which really match the POV of Lu Guang

    "the most likely ending for link click"
    nooooooo, that cuts deep, but you're so right, it sounds so possible!!
    although it would imply that there's no "fate" or any "mechanism" that would "straighten" the deformed timeline (i.e. there's nothing like "Cheng was supposed to die, but escaped death, so the universe keeps trying to kill him"). And if there's no "fate" that tries to kill Cheng Xiaoshi, why would Lu Guang time travel _several times_ ? Why once wasn't enough? 🤔But the biggest problem is probably "the last chance" that you've mentioned. It means, in our present, Lu Guang can't go back anymore, right? So there's no way to make him "not meet" Cheng Xiaoshi again. Although, we can't say for sure, of course. Even if Lu Guang can't go back in time himself, maybe someone else can go there and make them not meet each other.
    But I like your theory a lot, it's so tragic 😭Initially, I thought the ending will be: Lu Guang just has to accept Chen Xiaoshi's death (like how Chen Xiaoshi had to accept cruel reality every time he dived back in time). But there's definitely something more to it, hmm.
    I'm not really sure what you mean about "Mastermind" - the song with lyrics WAS used in the animated series, so why?.. I doubt they would allow to insert just a random song in a show where, as we established, EVERY song is heavy with spoilers haha. Moreover, lyrics about "hunter" and "marionet" have direct connection to our "bad guy".
    Thank you for the video!! After season 2 ending some time passed, but I'm still thinking about everything that happened and can happen in the future, it's such an intriguing series 😆

    • @VIVIDLIE
      @VIVIDLIE  11 месяцев назад +11

      Really interesting ideas! I didn’t think about the never met ending not being possible because what we are seeing is probably the ‘last chance’. Having to watch Lu Guang accept Cheng Xiaoshi’s death is absolutely tragic but I do like how it lines up with vortex - this idea of trying desperately to save someone but also deciding on the time to give up and let fate happen.

      @@VIVIDLIE I remember Lu Guang's face when Cheng Xiaoshi mentions breaking up in the second ep if they disagreed and I feel like if Xiaoshi ever find outs, which I think he will, he is gonna try and fix the timeline somehow? Because It's possible that there are a lot of deaths that may not even be meant to happen in the og timeline and xiaoshi might accept his death over the lives of those people. Haven't yet figured out how he might try and change things, there may be variable that havent be introduced yet! But it's just a hypothesis. I'm also obviously curious how Lu Guang even got those suspected 3 chances or even one chance since so far we only saw him use his predictive abilities. And if he could get them, could Xiaoshi? Unfortunately I've tried playing "Overthink" in max volume and I can't discern anything else and I don't see much discussion on Chinese forums.
      One thing that's interesting is that I've seen a forum (literally cannot find it now) stating that the structure of season 2 was meant to be similar to that of season 1. However, the director eventually decided to take a leap and try a new format (also what most viewers wanted). I'm wondering if in that case some of the things "Dive back in Time are hinting at are coincidental? I have no clue 🥲 but meanwhile all the link click songs are bangers and great to listen to

    If Cheng Xiaoshi dies in Lu Guang’s arms then it’s easy to assume that the power is transferred from Cheng Xiaoshi yo Lu Guang.

    I'm glad to find other ppl to overthink about these lyrics with (pun obviously intended). I was so confused about the two ops for the longest time cause as CXS is presented as the protagonist until the ending scene I didn't understand why they were so weirdly tragic cause they don't particularly match his experience, which after that scene OFC THEY DON'T cause these songs were never about his experience, they were about LG all along and it all made sense and now they're just a thousand times more tragic. Also Vortex kinda makes it sound like LG's stuck in a loop or something and i don't *love* that haha

  • @crimsonlilyfairy
    @crimsonlilyfairy 11 месяцев назад +52

    so there's a lot of good points here, but i think you missed some pretty key things in this analysis: one, and the big one, is that you didn't reverse the lyrics in the second half of vortex, which i think is the ACTUAL feelings for lu guang. i'd argue that the first half of cortex (the parts that you can understand without any fancy tricks--aka cheng xiaoshi's entire character) is from cheng perspective, like he's starting to figure out just how far lu went for, and is still going for him. but if you reverse the lyrics for the second half of the song, you get a perspective that follows far closer lu's entire experience:
    Let it unfold
    Will howling tides give me something to hold
    On to my life when I've sunken so low
    Over the end of the vortex we took every breath to follow
    Where do we go
    Where do we end up when we save the world
    Truth in the shadows so brightened in gold
    Place our fate into the ones
    second, there's the animation itself, which may seem kinda random, with the dancing and the crane games, etc, but there's some small touches that are kinda mind blowing when you really stop and look at them: first off, the multiple flat images in Dive that follow along to cheng's and lu's dacing gives the impression that there's multiple versions of these characters (cheng's is particularly note worthy since the first time they do this effect, it's three images: one red, one blue, one full color, all linking back to your theory that this is lu's 3rd attempt to save cheng). how they align with each other is also worthy of note: cheng's in a diagonal line implying their similar but not one-to-one related, vs lu's whose images are lined up sequentially, giving the impression that this whole series of events is happening back-to-back for him specifically. there's also an image of lu in a cathedral, of cheng lying in a field of blank photos (eerily reminiscent of a corpse lying in white linen), and the imagery of cheng with film reel covering his eyes, same as how emma is shown at the end of episode 1 when it's revealed she died, and several stills of incomplete picture walls, as though there's something vital piece missing.
    in Overthink, the imaging is far more deliberately trippy, but there's still several things to note, the biggest one being the way lu's face scratches out in a similar manner to what was depicted at the beginning of episode 4 (you know, the one where cheng screws up the timeline a little bit, and has a near panic attack for what that means for lu specifically, even though lu has no direct correlation to the events taking place). likewise there seems to be a very deliberate choice to never show lu's full face, except in one frame, where he's depicted in a full body shot, and even them, half his face is blocked in shadow. honestly, when paired with the translated song, it reads more like cheng vaguely remembers lu, and is desperately trying to prove his existence, while lu is "telling" him to "Stop thinking about it."
    Vortex is a bit more cut and dry, since the start of it's imagery is simply the reverse of it's ending, with a few exceptions, such as lu guang being shown staring down li tianchin as they fall together (possibly implying something about the similarities between the two), but the biggest part that stood out to me, at least was during the line "Am I destined to fall?" cheng gets very close to grabbing hold of lu's hand, while the "Like you did for me" implies that on some level cheng knows what lu's ultimate fate will be, and is desperate to try and save him from it, the same way lu is desperate to save cheng in the first place (it may be why cheng's so terrified of lu disappearing). the use of color pallette is also noteworthy, with everyone being depected in warm orange tones, while lu is kept in colder blue tones, implying he's not of their world, or that he's already dead(?).
    and finally in the S2ED, there's not much to say that's foreshadowing for lu or cheng throughout the majority of the ED, it's still referencing H.G. Well's The Time Machine (potentially), where a close relationship between a man from the past and a woman from the future is torn apart by tragic circumstance, and the man time travels once again to find the woman he lost, and never returns to his home time again, his ultimate fate unclear. huh, who does that sound like?
    still, i'm glad you brought this up at all, there's so much material to dissect in this show, and i think we're still only scratching the surface of this iceberg. season three cannot come out soon enough

    Really love this analysis, it's cool how there is so much to theorise about these songs!!
    I like your analysis of "Dive back in time" being from Lu Guang's perspective, but personally, to me it seems like it's more from Cheng Xiaoshi's perspective! Because he is the one who mainly dives back in time (of course after s2 we know Lu Guang does it too, but I assume it's not as repeatedly and frequently as Cheng Xiaoshi)
    The wording of the lyrics 'something secretive hidden inside your mind' makes sense more from Cheng Xiaoshi's perspective I think, because if it were from Lu Guang's POV, he wouldn't think about his own mind as *your* mind yknow?? (I hope I'm making sense) Maybe it's talking about how in season 1 Lu Guang was hiding Emma's death from him? (And potentialy also his other secret that we learn about in the end of s2)
    And the lyrics 'Cause I'm about to lose my mind' could maybe be about how diving back in time and not being able to change all the bad things that happened in the past are taking a toll on Cheng Xiaoshi's mental state (not being able to save the mother in ep5, not being able to stop Emma's death, etc.)
    Also the lyrics 'without you I don't know if I could take this road' could be talking about how without Lu Guang, Cheng Xiaoshi couldn't really go back in time because he doesn't know what happens and he could accidentally change the past.
    And lastly, you mentioned 'if only I had got it right before,' which, if we think about it from Cheng Xiaoshi's perspective, could maybe be about how he ignored Lu Guang's instructions, changed the past by texting Emma's parents, and therefore caused her death??? Maybe??
    There are so many other really interesting lyrics in this song too that I would love to analyse but rn I have no idea what they could mean xD

    Crazy theory (probably of which many people have already come up with): what if the entirety of both season 1, and season 2 are all in the past? Past, as in like, Lu Guang’s memories. I dunno, it’s kind of a stupid theory.. but, anyways, keep up with the great vids. ❤

It’s just a song like a course it would match the show it isn’t spoiling anything we don’t know how it’s gonna get to that point I love the songs and the show they’re amazing, the songs are on my playlist

    Theory: lu originally had his blue eyes power but when cheng died ( we saw an example where something went to the female charecter from the pink haired girl ) his powers transfered to lu. Lu now tries to save cheng but universe requires balance hence lu sacrficed something for him to be able use the power but since the song foreshadows 3 times that means lu has only 3 chamces for saving him , they met at basket ball ground from what i fear is that its like a steins gate situation where someone has to die so eother the female character dies or cheng dies , maybe the ending goes like this , lu will gain all the powers of the people and do one last dive wehre he rewrites everything and kills him self for the balance of the universe

    I will kill someone if the series ends with Lu Guang going back in time to make sure he never meets Cheng Xiaoshi because fuck that tragic ending bullshit, my boys deserve to be happy together! 😭Plus wouldn't it create a bit of a paradox? 🤔Since if Lu Guang never met Cheng Xiaoshi, then he never would've gone back in time to ensure they never meet. But if he never goes back in time to ensure they never meet, then they will meet and Lu Guang will go back in time to ensure they never meet again which would basically create a weird loop of them meeting and not meeting. Goddammit, time travel stories always make my brain hurt.
    Also I just wanna add that the "three wishes" line reminds me of the classic three wishes you get with a genie, and in the song Flash (which I think is definitely from Lu Guang's perspective) there's a line in the chorus that goes "the only thing I've got, just like a little lamp". Why a lamp? It makes no sense unless he means like a magic lamp with a genie inside. So maybe there's a connection there too? I hadn't thought of Lu Guang only have three chances. Tbh the fact that Lu Guang says that it's his "last chance" terrifies me, I really hope for some kind of twist where it turns out he meant something different (maybe "last chance" as in a "last resort" and not literally his last chance?) because dear god my heart can't take it if all he has is one chance left! Plus it doesn't really make sense to me because why would he only have one chance left? If he inherited Cheng Xiaoshi's power when he died in the alternate timeline(s) then in theory he should have unlimited chances, or almost unlimited. Hmm, now I'm wondering if Lu Guang kept CXS's ability when he dived back in time (presumably into a slightly younger version of himself before CXS dies)?
    Regardless, it seems likely that he inherited CXS's power when CXS died in that original timeline, given what happened with Qiao Ling and Li Tianxi transferring her memories (and presumably her power as well) to Qiao Ling when she died. Poor Qiao Ling btw, holy shit, I'm amazed she's not traumatized (idk maybe she is and just hides it well lol) having received all those memories and emotions of not only Li Tianxi's life but the lives of other people she possessed as well including Lu Guang's! No wonder she fainted immediately after lol. Argh, that makes me wonder though if Lu Guang also inherited CXS's memories and emotions (and those of their clients and the people he possessed)! 😭Dude not only had to deal with the trauma of losing his best friend but also the trauma of those people CXS inhabited and CXS's childhood trauma of his parents abandoning him. Plus it's a bit of double-whammy in that case since not only would he have his own fond memories of their times together, he'd have CXS's fond memories too! Well, assuming my theory is right, anyway. Hmm, so when Tianxi possesses people, does she gain ALL their memories or just the ones she chooses to access/the person she's possessing happens to think about? How does that whole memory thing work anyway? Apparently CXS inherits memories from their clients too when he dives into photos, but I'm guessing not all of their memories or else he'd know about Lu Guang witnessing his death just like Qiao Ling does. Since he briefly possessed Lu Guang twice (both in the spin-off Shorts and in the main show).

    • @z1LeaF
      @z1LeaF 3 месяца назад

      I was actually wondering about LXC possessing Lu but never saying anything about inheriting his memories. Maybe because Lu is a future Lu there is nothing for him to see? Also, since we learned that the Twins power overtook LXCs power, (he was forced out of the photo/out of the body) but when Lu is touched by the Twin he did not immediately disappear back to his future, makes me think he doesn't have one so he remains in the original photo he's in to change the past.

    • @RainbowEssence-c3w
      @RainbowEssence-c3w 3 месяца назад +1

      @@z1LeaF I think probably the reason is that it's a different timeline and the past has already been changed. Remember when Lu Guang got stabbed and he was apologizing to Cheng Xiaoshi, saying "everything's different now"? I think in a previous timeline CXS was stabbed and killed or something instead of LG, and then LG went back in time using a photo to prevent it. Which then led to the current timeline, post-stabbing, so LG was sort of no longer in the photo, if that makes sense. So when Li Tianchen possessed him, he didn't get thrown out because there was no "photo" for him to be thrown out of, it's an entirely new timeline.
      Think of it like a film i suppose. With films, you can go back and edit what's already been recorded but you can't edit scenes that haven't been recorded yet (obviously since they don't exist to be edited). You could shoot a whole film in which a character dies, then go back and remove that scene where the character dies, changing the story. But you still have to shoot new scenes in order to accomodate this change in the plot. Does that make sense? Sorry if it doesn't.

      You are absolutely right!! I was so focused on the OPs and EDs I overlooked the rest of the sound track, which is clearly a massive oversight, I mean flash is SPECIFIC. Just roughly but it talks about - ‘get the power to rewrite’, ‘I have the power, it was undercover’, time loops, memories from different timelines. Absolutely crazy stuff. I also really like the line ‘Into the story as just an extra’ it’s very clearly referring to how we have been focusing on the wrong character this whole time. Great work to those who remembered this one!

    ok so cheng xiao shi dies and his ability was transferred to lu guang who was there with his at the time of his death and this whole series is him basically time travelling to the past to save his best friend from dying (not quite sure about this part) also i had a ques, is it CXS's ability that limits him travelling into the photo for 12 hours or is this a time set by the duo to avoid consequences? also it's clearly mentioned that lu guang can only see the incidents within 12 hours but its mentioned nowhere that CXS's ability also lasts upto 12 hours only which according to my assumptions makes his ability last for as long as he wants. this would explain that fact that once this ability was transferred to lu guang, the whole series is him time travelling to the past without time limitations

    • @VIVIDLIE
      @VIVIDLIE  11 месяцев назад +3

      I always interpreted it as Lu Guang’s ability having a 12 hour limit so he put the same limit on Cheng Xiaoshi to prevent messing things up. But theoretically Cheng Xiaoshi wouldn’t have a time restriction. Though nothing is confirmed, all speculation!

    This video and the explanations is awesome and all , but haven't it cross ur mind that they but this as u said "spoilers" on purpose just to make us think and think more about it, the events and it's gonna to end and so.
    Well let's be honest, the first thing that will come to ur mind when u mention time traveling and those stuff about saving ppl form death is this is a losing game!, everyone knows that u can't save them and all time traveling theories saying so unless there is a new one saying the opposite, dunno 🤷‍♀️🤷
    It's ridiculously amazing!!
    So wut I'm trying to say is we know from the first no ?, when in the end of the day I'm no saying it's about lu gaung and Chen Xiaoshi it's about how thing is going during the show and stuff atleast that wut I can see , cz as I said it's a losing game .
