Great upload! I've just finished Obama's Wars and also wondered about the criticisms of Woodward's lack of personal critique in his writing. I'm glad the question was asked and that the author kind of touched on it. Where some want Woodward to wade more forcefully into opinion generation, I think the author is content to allow the debate and discussion by the principle actors to fill that space. I'd welcome more personal introspection from Woodward --he's an interesting man who has undoubtedly lived during interesting times-- but that has never really been his long-form style. In abject historical terms, where broader perspective allotted through time is likely the only way that these foreign policy and presidential history anecdotes are more thoroughly considered, simply allowing the involved actors to make their respective cases for the record may be a more beneficial practice. Interesting insights, for sure.
