Bought the original Danelectro cool cat chorus back in the day (the one that weighs about 1kg). Actually bought three units of it, each 18v, each € 20,-
It sounded glorious! I'm looking for that stereo sound again, maybe in a lighter, pedalboard-friendly version. I was looking for the Alexander sugarcube, but it wabbles to much for my taste. I don't want too much movement especially not too much movement in volume. Many choruses sound like tremolos, I hate that, I want one steady volume.

What about the stereo delay pedals? For example Boss DD-7 or DD-8 or Digitech DL-8
In the same place, in fact, there is not a single preset with separate settings for both channels
Is it still just a dual mono or are there also some phase changes in the sounds of both channels?

Don’t really hear much on Art of Drowning or Black Sails and certainly not any earlier.. Decemberunderground and on utilizes more modulation so you definitely could be right regarding those. However, as much as I know and love all those albums, it’s STS that instantly came to mind. Idk, call me crazy.

Wonderful explanation - can't say enough good things about this video. Particularly in the studio this is really practical and helpful info. For the average bar band, the problem with stereo is if you separate the cabinets so that one is on each side of the stage and you're standing on one side, then you only hear half of your signal. Thus you turn up to hear a proper blend, and then the other band members turn up to get their blend and on goes the battle. Of course, if you're also the singer and standing in the middle of the stage, then no problem.

For Dan especially- I struggled for over a decade to find a chorus I could relate to and fell in love with the Paradox Futura- it’s a BBD chorus that includes optional envelope control over rate and/or depth. It’s not stereo but it has a dry/chorus/vibrato knob so you can run it wet/dry. I think you would LOVE it if you have a chance to try it out.

I recently explained to my wife how wonderful the separated signals sound when played through headphones (using my old CE-3), a sound I discovered by accident back in the late '90s.
Sure, chorus has been very well used, overused according to some, but those tones you guys got were magnificent.
Now I think I have to get me a Bassbreaker to go along with my Delta Blues 210.
Also, I noticed that during the dual mono vs stereo example, the dB meter showed roughly 2 dB louder during the stereo play, so it's not just a perceived volume increase, it's actually real.

@That Pedal Show -- is the Julianna wet-dry like the CE or is it wet-wet/phase like the SCF?

It's interesting that the pedals in the dry signal are isolated only for that Amp/ signal path. All the diagrams online (without a G2/G3) I've seen have the dry effects in the initial signal, prior to the split. This demo hits the sweet spot ✔️ rock'on you pair of lunatics ❤️🏆🤩

Great show, guys.I’m still hoarding my CE-1,which to me still is the best.Had a CE-3,which tone-sucked a bunch and currently have the TC Corona(with Dans Tone Print)should the occasion call.
Mostly, though,I want to congratulate Dan on his wise purchase of the Tone Pump(the Tone Press is his compressor).Dave’s pedals are just so good!

Loved every note, warble, and wobble of this! The only bit of kit I !really! miss from the 80s is my old JC120 and the two cabs I ran it into. Having those set up in my friend’s garage - one on either side, about 10’ apart - was such a glorious sound.

Oooh Stereo Chorus was a revelation for me in the 80's : I had an Ibanez Rack UE405 (Maxon) with a stereo Chorus on it, and the time I decided to plug the second output in an H/H bass Amp, I became addicted to that sound. I play stereo since then, even if I tend to use more stereo mod delays, Flangers etc... Anyway, thanks so much for this recap : very pleasing and very interesting and very well explained. The Pitch shift+Chorus or Dimension D+Pitch Shifter in stereo is a sexy combination as well (very aquatic feel) you should try one day ! (may be Steeve Steven secret sauce during the 80's ?)

You guys should demonstrate the Pat Metheny thing - modulated delays (NOT chorus) on the left and right, and a longer unmodulated delay in the center amp.

My first "Boss Chorus" was actually my first amp, in 1985 - a Roland JC-160. It was150w, bi-amped, full stereo, through 4x10s. I was a little underwhelmed by the CE-2 mono out into a smaller, lighter, more portable amp after that experience. I couldn't afford two amps so the thought never crossed my mind to run two. Now I have a JC-22 that almost does it with 2x6s. Now I need to stack my Bassbreaker 007 on top of it. 😁

I can understand why people got burned out on chorus, but personally, i could never get tired of chorus. I would love to see u guys mess around with the brand new releases of the Jackson Audio New Wave chorus, and the Beetronics SeaBee. Both BB analog chorus with digital control and both takes chorus to another level while keeping traditional chorus tones on board.

Sensational playing there towards the end, Dan. And Mick sneaked Learn to Fly in, the verse parts of which are my go-to (along with 2 of Keith Scott’s chorusy intros) for testing chorus pedals. Well done chapsters.

I knew about wet-dry and the dimension approach, but had never heard of the SCF style of stereo! Fascinating. In fact, I watched that section twice, like “Dan isn’t explaining the phase flipped element correctly, but then also why doesn’t it sound right and where’d the sound go in dual mono?” Then got to the Dimension section and realized the gap in my knowledge. 😅The expensive stereo sound truly is beautiful - glimmering stillness of a breezy day, sun reflecting off an ocean. Thanks as always for an informative video full of lovely sounds!

Wow what a great immersion into the folds of chorus. The explanation of what is really happening with time and phase while in headphones really made the function clear. Reminds me of the "wide" setting that (fancy-ish)boom boxes came with in the 80's. I recently bought an 80's Roland JC77 from Japan- which arrived with a smashed speaker baffle and grill frame. After rewiring the primary to US voltage(off schematic- same PT for world-wide power) and painstakingly rebuilding the baffle and frame and a deep clean, fired it up and viola! Deep stereo chorus and even on lowest rate and depth the sound from the amp is all enveloping in the room while still being pronounced and not at all lost in a live full band mix. Keeper. Thank you for this show, I've been a fan since you guys were in the corner and really appreciate how you approach sharing your knowledge and opinions. If you ever are coming to Maui I can set up shows, ( I have an in at Mick Fleetwoods restaurant and venue as well as others) have a back up band ready to go and heck, even a cozy studio apt ready. Think about it. Thanks again for what you both do. Mahalo!
