Perfect video. No senseless forward about what the video is going to be about - just jump right in and explain along the way. Short and sweet and VERY informative. Many thanks!
Thanks for this video. I've been doing this, but holding the wire wheel at too high an angle and grooving my soft wood pretty badly. Your shallow approach worked much better on the pieces I just completed.
Thank you. I used almost the same technique to make end tables and a coffee table out of hatches from a WW II Victory Ship complete with hardware, Steel bands and indented grab holds .
I have done this on oak but found that burning the wood first then light sanding with 220 grit accentuates the grain then stained and poly ! Did all the trim in my bathroom this way! Nice work
Fantastic distressing job! I'm going to give your technique a try, but I'm not sure what you mean by using a "software brushes". There's a lot of similar looking "knot" wire wheels on Amazon. Is .020 steel wire considered soft or hard? Thanks for the video!
It becomes grey and even black, depending on the oak. I just did this experiment myself, in a more aggressive fashion than shown here, without the need to burn the wood. I chose a coffee infused olive oil as my coating of choice as it was a pleasing brown, rather than a near ebony.

Great vid, easy technique for larger areas, just what I was looking for. Many thanks!

Your fantastic dude
Just what I was looking for. Thank you
Cracking video, shame youtube forces me to watch 2 unskipable adverts now just to watch
Jessie, give the guy some credit-he cooked up a how-to video for you, even giving you his entire recipe! A smidge of monetization doesn't hurt.
Wonder how this would look after doing the prep work but then using the vinegar and steel wool trick

😁 Brilliant and so easy.
What oil color code is this?
Why don't you just buy the wood at home depot, you would save yourself a lot of trouble
To me that’s not distressed that’s highlighting the grain in the wood
You are correct. Aged or weathered may be a closer definition.
nice!! Thank you
Желаю успехов😊

Nice, check out my coffee table build!
Nice try, no cigar. Not even close to authentic.
Just get timber from the petrified forest...
I did something like this a month ago with plans from Stodoys.
