Wow, I've seen many videos like this, but I loved that you kept it simple and didn't get into loads of expensive equipment like other people AND the results are stunning! Thanks for sharing!
Your video helped me so much! I was putting together a bench for my friend, and no matter what I did or what kind of paint I used, or how much I sanded it, it just looked awful. Today I distressed the wood per your ideas and it FINALLY looks good enough to give to her, so thanks tons!
The recip saw is a great idea. Thank you. Will be using this for a wood ceiling that I will be installing soon. Another idea that I use is I lay the board in my stone driveway and then walk on the wood. When you turn it over it has hundreds of small dents that make it look very natural.
I use by bandsaw with an old blade but I think the sawzall with a long blade would be even better especially on longer boards (better control). Thanks for the tip!
Take one of those long sawzall blades, drill holes in it and screw that wire brush to it. Put that in a variable speed sawzall for less hand work. Lightly burn with a torch to distress the grain.
Do you have a preferred stain or combination of stains for that weathered chocolate brown color I see so often in old Ohio barns that seems like it bleeds entirely through the wood?
Really like your results. Do you just go over the boards once in each direction with the sawsall? Are you just knocking down the fibers with wire brush or actually taking some of the softer wood out?
Thanks a lot! Yes sometimes I do once in each direction. This kind of can give it a criss cross looks which some barnwood does have. And also yes the wore brush takes the softer wood fibers out making it look more distressed. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I saw this comment before I watched the video and from my count he said shit once about a quarter of the way in and didn't cuss anymore afterwards. Too bad for you because he has a really easy fast way of distressing a board.
That word is just like all the others in every language..just a word until someone gives it life saying it’s *bad*. Any word can be *swearing*, don’t give it life. I’m sure you say things others would consider bad as well…😶
wow, one of the best distressing wood methods
Best barnwood distress video ive seen, great job.
Thank you! Glad you liked it

Awesome 👏🏻
Thanks!
Great video
Thank you!
Looks better than the wood we pulled out of our barn! Only difference being the fact most of it was 2x12s, everything back then was way overbuilt
Thanks! Yes it sure was... love that old barn wood though!
Nice vid and shop! Also like your brand choice lol I've been eyeing that installation driver for a long time.
Thanks! 👍 Its a great tool! I use it daily
thank you
You're welcome!
Hi,
How would you do the cris-cross on a large table surface.
Also, where do I get the grey color?
Thakns

Will these methods work on rough sawn pine?
They will work great on rough sawn pine. It will just add to the rustic look.
What’s a buh-in ?

guessing a lot of trial & error yielded your approach/success to get these results...thanks for sharing and consider yourself SUBSCRIBED!
Thanks for your comment Mark!

Hi. Can rough sawn be used for distressed effect or does it need to start smooth planed? Thanks.
Absolutely it can be used. That's the best way to do it.
@@BradyHommel Thanks Brady, I appreciate your time.
The ol’ fish scale method
Use a small chain
Great idea!
I used to work for a bespoke kitchen company but got sacked, joke's on them, turns out I've been making distressed kitchens all that time
what color was that 1st brown color?
Early American stain I believe.
He says in the video its honey by minwax.
Did you sell it bro…
for your grey...whats the ratio of grey and brown? 1:1? and the brown...do you use honey? I love minwax honey
Or just get some barn boards.
Stopped watching as soon as you started swearing!!!
Oh no. So sorry
Oh no! I hope you'll be ok! I know how traumatizing a woodworker saying "shit" can be. Let me know if you need a safe space.
Oh shit, really?
