We have always been fans of Walter Hawkins…I’ve been to his church, I lived up north when they got started. Stevie grew up listening to the Hawkins he got a chance to sing back up for Walter Hawkins before he passed, and he sings a duet (that you can find on RUclips) with Tremaine Hawkins (The Potter).
This was also the closer on the "Jesus Christ Is the Way" album by the Hawkins Family. Bishop Hawkins said in interviews that he wrote/gave his best songs for everyone else and he sang "the leftovers." This song was not a leftover: (imho) only Bishop -- and now Stevie Mackey -- can sing this song! EXCELLENT job, Stevie!!!!

I am of the mindset that classics should not be remade because you really are let down with the remake - something goes lacking in the rendition and the presentation. Additionally, I thought only the late Bishop Walter L. Hawkins could do this song he wrote in the late 70s - early 80s with the power and impact it deserved. I stand corrected. You made it yours. There is no doubt in my mind that the Bishop and Jesus are both elbowing each other smiling in heaven at this genius rendition of a classic and one of my favorite songs written by the Bishop. My only criticism is that I wish I could sing it the way the Bishop and now you have. Thanks you, thank you for sharing and to God be the Glory.
