Thank you so much for these videos. I’m 75 and have wanted to try this with my old recipes. Read the manual but your explanations are so much easier and I look forward to using this new pot and also your future videos and recipes!
very helpful, i bought it because i was trying to break down beef but i did not put enough water so i ended up burning the beef and stanking up the house for the next 4 days.
the auto shut off function is perfect, now i will never burn anything ever again
Your videos give absolutely the most helpful, most concise yet clear instructions especially to IP newbies like myself. I don't bother watching anyone else's any more.
THANK YOU!!!!! I found the manual to be confusing, and their own videos completely useless. You're my hero!
Thank you for this very helpful step by step video!!! I bought my instant pot in November. For some reason, something wasn’t right. During the water test, it would stay on the “On” mode and never switched to the cooking time. I did the test 3 times. I exchanged it and now finally unboxing it. I did the water test just now and it was a success! Thank goodness I exchanged it! 🙌🏻🤗
I'm a single guy but I love cooking meals at home the way my mom used to do. She used an old fashioned pressure cooker and every thing she made with it was awesome. But one day dad came home early and opened the pot with pressure on it... He was burned pretty bad (nothing permanent) so I was afraid of them after that. When these Instant Pots came out I bought one and now I'm pressure cooking pork roasts, corned beef, chicken and even ham n beans.
I kinda love it 😁.
The old pressure cookers freaked me out for that very reason and I never used one. I'm going to use it after the water test. Can't wait!
I was watching this "unboxing" when I noticed the "condensation catcher". I bought my pressure/smoker (Emson) pot used but wondered what that was for, always laid it aside. I threw it out last night. I went trash bag diving just now to retreive it. Got it washed now and in place. Your videos are more than just cooking! Lol
+Joe Craft Too funny! So glad I could help!
hilarious, you made me smile. TFS
Thank you for the video I just got my 8 quart was nervous but you explain it so well, I read the instructions but nevertheless watching the video makes it easier. I am looking forward to put my instant pot to work and follow your recipes. Thanks again.
Thank you so much! I just got my instant pot and the steam valve is very intimidating! The instructions don't explain it well enough and your video was just what I needed. Thank you!
I searched lots of videos on how to use my pressure cooker. Yours was the most helpful and easy to follow. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for posting this! I had the same problem and was able to attach your video to Instant Pot's customer service. You are right! They responded RIGHT AWAY and are shipping a new base UNIT to me. This was a big help and I am impressed with Instant Pot's customer service! Great post!
Thank you. Could not figure this out until watching your video.
This was my 4th video try to find one on my level......complete novice! This was the most concise, short & sweet, easy to follow video I found. Thank you so much for helping!!
You make this look easy. so glad I have subscribed because of that .Right now I am going back over your old videos to catch up THANKS
Perfect intructions for the scaredy-cat (me) new user! Great job.
Thank you for this! Just unboxed my new UP and followed along with the video. Success!
Very well done for a newbie like myself. Made it understandable, and calmly delivered. Cheers!
Thank you soo much for these helpful videos; they help to understand better after I read the manual!
Than you this was super helpful I was really intimidated but your video eased my nerves 😊
Hi Indigo I am fairly new to your channel and am enjoying watching you and your videos. I also appreciate the videos, esp. the Instant pot right now. I got the duo 8 and am sure I'll love it. Thanks for your videos, really helpful. Your kids are so cute!
I just got the duo IP80,bought a used one from a lady that only used it 2 times and going to try this test today to make sure it still works proper. It looks brand new and she still had everything that went with it. I only paid 50.00 DOLLARS for it. So hope it goes well. You explain everything so clearly.
All went well, worked perfect so now I learn to cook with it,Think I will try boiled eggs first.lol I watched your egg one and look forward to many more of your recipes
Thank you for this video! Watching this makes it less intimidating 😊
Thanks for the very simple and informative video.
Thank you! What a great appropriately paced water test. Subscribing!
Thank you for sharing this video. Just purchased my first p/c an Instant Pot - Viva 8 Quart. Had a slight issue with the flapper/release valve sealing the first time around but works fine know. I was very disappointed to find my inner pot Does Not Have the cup and Liter on the side. All it has is - 1/2 and PC MAX - 2/3.
I am guessing cost cutting!!!!.
Thank you again for the lesson in start - up
Thank you! I was so confused lol. You cleared up all my questions!
After the initial water test failed 2 times, I found this RUclips and it saved my life. I was putting in to much water. Thank you so much.
Glad to help!
I wonder why a water test is needed. I wonder if other companies test their electric pots prior to shipment and this is a way for the company to save money, or if there is a different reason. I just got my first Instant Pot, so THANK YOU for your videos!
You are just glowing!!!
You're a professional water chef
This video helps me so much. Thank you
Very helpful! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for the Demo. Greatly Appreciate it
Thanks for this video! It was really easy to understand and follow 😊
Thank you explained it very well.
Very clear! Thank you
This was super helpful!! Thank you!
The item works well.
*I love the instant pot so much! I have made quinoa, chicken, chili, asparagus **MyBest.Kitchen** and yogurt in it so far. The only thing that didn't work great was the asparagus. I cooked it for 1 minute and it was still overdone. It is a timesaver and uses much less energy than my gas stove.*
Very helpful video. Thank you
Great video! So much better than the manual that came with my "mini" or the info on their website ... thank you!
Thank you! This was so easy to follow
Thank you for demo, save me to read the manual.
This was very helpful, thank you.
Great video! TY!
Thanks , very helpful
Yeah I did 3 liters. Took forever but it worked.
Thank you!!
My instant pot is not working properly, I was steaming carrots for 4 minutes and all the time steam keels releasing from the valve, and it doesn’t stop cooking for more than 10 minutes I had to cancel and unplug the wire. I googled and not able to find a solution, I’ve used it before and it was working fine. I’ve only used it for about 10 times
Loved your video! Thank you so much :-)
Should we have to remove the warning paper inside
I have enjoyed watching your videos, very informative. Have you done one on cleaning the instapot? Do you do a thorough cleaning after each use or is it every once and awhile?
My 8 qt liner does not have all those measurements on the inside?
Thanx fr a very informative video on the operation of the test steaming....I'm getting one as soon as I can find a store that sells it...as I don't use Amazon, or any order purchases,...I want to see it, open it, check it, to see if it is complete,,,Thanx ...Adam Smith Ontario, Canada,,,,
Great video, subscribed.
I also heard some units have a three quart line as she mentioned. She is right, don’t use it for your water measurement. Use a traditional cooking measuring cup, not the cup included with the product. For the 8 quart cooker put 3 cups of water in the stainless steel insert. That is 24 ounces or 750 liters. I don’t know how much water goes in the smaller cookers. Check the instructions with your Instant Pot and following the instructions no matter what size unit you have.
I never tested my 6 qt. but it seems to work great. Only think I wished it's of had was the trivet with the handles on, mine came without handles, what were they thinking? LOL Congrats on your new 8 qt. and I hope you are feeling good...
I got my 8-quart IP last night and when I did the water test, I had occasional puffs of steam coming from the vent valve, even after it had come up to pressure and started counting down. Is that normal? (I have a 6-quart of another brand that I have been using so I already troubleshooted with the ring, etc and everything was as should be before starting). Also, I too got a liner with no cup measurements (someone below commented theirs did not have the measurements).
Most importantly, I have been watching your videos for a while now and greatly appreciate you sharing your IP knowledge with us.
I just bought mine last night at Kroger. It's an 8qt & does not have a yogurt setting. :( Am I still able to make yogurt on a different setting or through the manual setting?
I was literally doing this when your notification popped up lol! Mine is red as well but my insert is different. It doesn't have the cups and liters like the 6qt.
Shawna Staggenborg I just got my first IP for black friday and got it today and it doesnt have the lines either just 2 lines and the top is max. Also the front is a bit differeng where it says adjust mine says keep warm and where this keep warm is my pressure cook button. So weird...my box says IP-DUO80 V2. Wonder what the differences are?
My box also says designed in Canada, manufactured in China.
I just bought mine 3 weeks ago and the measuring looks different and the manual looks different and it doesn't have the water test.
Same here - my 8 qt insert does not have the measurements like my 6 qt. The float valves on my 6 qt v2 and v3 are the same. Only my 8 qt has the red one that pops up more.
Sharon Dunham my liner does not have any fill lines, I'm wondering if we are supposed to use the cup that comes with the pot to fill it or use normal cup sizes. The manual does not say to do one way or the other.
ohbrandyjune I just used 3 cups of water using a normal measuring cup.
During the water test run my steam release handle was set to Sealing but was spewing water is that normal? It also did so when I set the release handle to venting. It did not make a big mess but more than a sprinkle here and there.
No, that's not normal. I'd recommend contacting IP customer service
Just got mine yesterday, 8 qt. It does not have the measurements in the the pot. I wonder why?
I recently got the 8qt. Mine didn't come with a handle on top like this one...
So why would you need to do this?
How long did it take to go from "On" to "2" ? Because my unit's valve was sticking up, and the timer never came on ..
I just got mine.the pink metal is very loosely holding there. Is it correct?
Ok, but if after 15 minutes and it has not switch to the 2 min timer after the 5 min it started releasing steam and popper is up. Still says on and releasing steam???
I am having this issue currently.... did you figure it out? Lol
@@kimberlytabor4688 no. Still does it. I just start timing it with the oven timer. After the thing pops down.
Just got Version 3 6 qt and it has the inset like the old versions, not like your 8 qt pot.
I did the water test and I’ve used it twice already but when the timer is done it does not count when it’s in warm mode. So I don’t know when the timer starts. Any advice? By the way I should of seen your video first because you made pretty easy and I was intimidated when I went based on the manual.
Perhaps you have Keep Warm mode turned off. That's the only reason I can think of that the timer wouldn't be counting up after cook time finishes. Look in your manual for instructions on how to turn off and on Keep Warm mode and see if it helps!
Hi I know this tutorial was made a while ago I just bought my new duo plus instant pot from amazon.ca so different from yours and am having a difficult time using it. Any suggestions?
If you do another IP video could you show the 6qt and 8qt side by side so we can compare size? Of the base and insert would be awesome! 😊
HI, I just did my water test and it appeared to get to pressure, however it blew steam out the venting/sealing knob the whole time. I had it in the sealing mode...what did I do wrong or need to change? I'm not sure I want to try to cook anything at this point???
Joetta Mattis did you get this resolved? We had the same issue happen one minute into the steaming.
My pot went from 00:02 to OFF there was no L0:00 is something wrong?
Sounds weird. I'd contact IP customer service!
Oh my goodness.. Thia water test started to stress me out, because I thought it was supposed to all turn into Steam haha so gladto know it isn't
😂
after mine switched to 2min steam started coming out the valve even though it was set to the closed option...my valve is pretty wiggly, any thoughts?
The valve is normally wiggly but it shouldn't start releasing steam during cook time. I'd contact instant pot and see what they say 🤔
@@IndigoNili any chance it maybe had too much water? (i measured 3 cups)...i did it a second time and the steam didn't escape ...its not on L:08, so at this point i can just leave it until ...? or release myself right?
@@MsRichelle22 I don't think that's a typical problem from over filling. If it's on L:08 it should be fine to quick release the pressure now
My pots timer is different, I can't tell if its set for 2 hours or two minutes. this is confusing, I think this thing is more trouble than its worth. I can't even get by the water test.
2 hours shows as 120 minutes when setting time to cook
After the red valve pops up, how long is it supposed to stay on the “On” mode before switching to the 2 minute cooking time? I think there is something wrong with my IP bc it just stayed on the “On” mode and never switched...
alohanyc77 ... I don't think it's supposed to take that long before the timer appears. I just did this Initial Test Run (water test), and it took about one minute before the timer displayed.
How much water did you put into your IP?
Indigo, I have performed the initial pressure test. Everything looked just like your video but once my pressure valve locks into place there is some steam that is being released from the steam release valve and I DO have that set to 'sealing'. Is that normal during the cooking process? I could not see the top of your machine during the cooking countdown to see if some steam was being released. I have a help ticket in but it seems to take forever to get a response and I am anxious to get started!
Yes, a little steam is normal. Steam shouldn't be shooting out at a high volume though. 🙂
Indigo Nili hey while I was doing my water test the pink thing lol went up and steam was coming out of that while the 2 min is that normal?
I did everything and it turned out good, but I am still scared of it...😁
😂
Do you prefer the 8qt vs the 6qt? Theres 3 adults in our household
The 6qt would probably be fine if you don't like to many leftovers. If you like to do any kind of batch cooking the 8qt is the way to go!
I just bought my IP-DUO60 7-in1 and did the water test. After the floating valve went up and the 2-minute timer starts, there was a great amount of steam coming out in the steam valve. And after the steam comes out around the lid with a loud popping sound. I was scared and immediately turned it off. Is something wrong with my IP? I checked that the ring is placed correctly. I don't know what's the problem.
Yeah, that doesn't sound right... I'd contact IP customer service and see what they think 🤔
Was your steam valve turned toward "Sealing"?
Did yours smell like really strong plastic? Mine does awful and I don't remember my 6qt smelling. . I've washed it several times and it still stinks
Shawna Staggenborg I am doing my first water test right now and there is a strong plastic/ burning smell. Hoping this only happens the first time!
My instant pot while the water test, is liking water in the sealing position! its that normal?
sandra sotelo .... Where is it leaking from?
If it's condensation into the plastic container attached to the back, then I think that's okay. If it's leaking anywhere else, that means it's not properly sealing, and your IP probably won't get to the correct temperature.
You may want to contact the manufacturer.
I ordered my instant pot through your link on Amazon. My liner has no fill lines and also my user manual does not have the water test. I'm not sure how I should go about filling my pot with no fill lines for recipes. Any suggestions? If anyone can help please let me know, I'd really appreciate it!
+ohbrandyjune I just learned that there are 2 versions of the 8qt and people are receiving different ones. Mine is the Version 1 and yours is the Version 2. I'm going to try to get a video up today about the differences! They just had to go and change things and confuse everybody! Lol!
Indigo Nili oh thank you so much I was trying to figure out what was happening! And if I should use normal cups or their cups. I will look for you video! Thanks again!!
+ohbrandyjune Also, I rarely use the measurement markings in my instant pot... Only for rice really. Any recipes will tell you how many cups of liquid to add. For the water test just add 3 regular cups
Indigo Nili but I did use my pot to cook Filipino pork adobo and it came out so much better than when I spend 3 hrs on the stove!
+ohbrandyjune Yum!
My Pressure Cooker 6QT Red Button Is Like This One
I never did this...opps
This really should have been part of just one video. Dividing them wastes bandwidth and is bad for the internet.
