If you're a dummy like me, and started your journey with this (otherwise very informative!) vid, the reason your texture node projects your 3D view in 2D is because you need to specify an underlay (In this video you can see Dylan's Lake node is used as the underlay by the purple dot below it, and it can be done in the menu when right-clicking the node).
Pumped! Been looking forward to this one. I agree with the island node being , somehow, more trouble than it's worth. With the coast node, it just adds a more natural character to the edges.
The island node is definitely one that wants to be a bit more precise. Once you have it just right, you can do wonders with it. Just takes a bit more time. I will be posting another tutorial on how to get exact settings on the coast node in a multitude of ways. It is baking out now, will be uploaded probably within the hour.
To use this with something like Quixel Mixer, would I just leave out the texture/mixer nodes and use pretty much everything else the same way? Great Tutorial! :)
Just fyi I couldn't find the coast node in the current version, but playing around with one of the templates, found that the sea node does almost the same thing, but merges the function of lakes into it (as in your application). The texture stuff is confusing so I'm staying away from it and instead am trying to learn how to make an auto material in UE5.
Yes, new changes to Gaea changed it around. This work flow doesn't work for the newest version of Gaea. When I get a moment, I'll update the workflow for the new way of doing things.
Area is arbitrary. You can scale to just about any size in your 3D app. Gaea doesn't care outside if that. There is a maximum in the world size slider but I can't remember what it is off of the top of my head. If I was near my comp, I'd get the exact number.
What version of Gaea and do you have any nodes marked for export? Try clearing the cache of the build as well. Should be an option to do that in the lower right side of the Gaea node window.
The island might be basic, but the nodes for the texture isn't. Since the full node tree is prebuilt there's no way for a newbie to untangle it in order to know what is connected to what unless you watch 36tutorials first.... so not basic even though some more advanced users likes to claim it in the comments. So it's basic for you, well good for you...
Well, the island itself is basic. Very simple design. I never claimed the texturing to be basic, though. I already have a basic texturing guide which is simple to follow. The texturing was done purely out of habit, in this video.
Combine won't work when putting a height field and a color map together. Combine was changed to accept a color map, height map, etc. and auto switch to what it needs to combine. You will know if the combine node is set to use a height map if it is a blueish color or pink for a color map. Make sure you are not trying to cross the two because it won't work... Or won't work well.
@@DylanPWN yea bc it connected through the new box it made automatically and basically just mixed the sand and the grass color. The sand and grass aren’t seperate

There are more advanced ways to make islands or a chain of islands than just a little mountain with a beach. This is a basic set up to get across simple techniques.
That is exactly what I need. I want to create an archipelago with one large island in the center and plenty small islands all around.... But there's no any tutorial how to do that anywhere.

This looks great Dylan! Am going to take a crack at it later.
Heck yeah!
yes! thank you for this, will try to build one tonight
You are quite welcome! Make something beautiful, my dude!
Awesome tutorial.
Thank you!
Will try to follow this, Thank you so much!!
No problem! :)

hmm this gives me plenty of ideas.
Yes. That is correct.
Also, thank you!
Any chance of making the .tor file available to study from?
I don't have the files any more. However, I can certainly upload something, if I can get around to it.
@@DylanPWN That would be fantastic! It is a bit easier than trying to follow the video and get it exact match. Much appreciated!

Why "basic island"? What kind of other islands are there?
There are more advanced ways to make islands or a chain of islands than just a little mountain with a beach.

this does not look like a basic tutorial. why do so many basic tutorials look lake bookks with the first few chapters missing?
It's basic because there is only 4 nodes that made the island. All of the other nodes are mostly for texture/color.
@@DylanPWN I'm after basic basic. we're talking total beginner here. ui sart the app and that's where it gets confusing for me.
