I bought my 1981 K20 6.2 9 years ago. Knew absolutely nothing about it. Learned as things broke type of deal which is the best way. After 5 years of driving it N/A I spent the doll hairs on peiceing together a Turbo kit. Best desicion ever! Truck runs even smoother, has wicked more power and still gets 22+ mpg loaded. Truly an amazing engine.

I had a 1992 Gimmy C 1500 pickup with a 6.2 diesel and a NVG 4500 transmission. Very reliable and economical to operate at 25 miles per gallon.

The ATS turbo kit didn’t interfere with the AC system. But good luck finding one of those kits these days.

I have a 1986 C20 Scottsdale Detroit Diesel and a 1986 K2500 Sierra classic Detroit Diesel.. I've been learning and thinking of turbos for both of them but the K2500 has a lot of external engine parts my C20 don't have..

@@dominiquehaines-86SquareBody the best thing to do is remove the glow plugs, only crack the injector lines, and crank it over to bleed the system. Open the primers on the filters to vent it.

@@RustyDreamsGarage my 83 came with an already installed military 6.2. But no brackets or anything. I’m hoping the ac is on the drivers side and I still can’t figure out if it’s supposed to be the short or long compressor.

30mpg? Im at ~12mpg right now w 700r4 conversion on 38s w steelies NA Jcode(84 M1008) my used Banks kit($700 plus parts trade) is going on this week.
Banks got the 5.7billion contract to repower all the new JLTV dmaxs w his own D866T version engine.... cant see why they dont offer a 'retro' kit re-release to reinvigorate the 6.2/6.5 world and partner w AMG for P400s again or sell it with the Optimizer 6500 ready to go.

Ok. So 4.10 gears and 38” tires. Why are you expecting good fuel mileage from that? My 4 speed c20 6.2 routinely gets 26mpg. The red truck does even better with the turbo and a th400. Guess it’s how you drive it
