Big John sang this song with the right amount of soul. If you’re not feeling the lyrics of this song, you can’t perform it. Big John had no such issue. Beautiful stuff!
What an amazingly awesome version of this song. I can't believe I haven't heard it before or heard of the singer. I literally spent 4 hours listening to this song while doing stuff. Love this version. Great voice very different..
Dank voor de upload. Uniek! Ik heb Big John vele malen in Pam Pam - Scheveningen geien toen ik 18 was. Groetjes uit mijn huidige thuiseiland Saint Lucia (Caraiben).
I'm old, been around forever, and this has long been one of my favorite songs. The Animals & Sam Cooke versions prove they own it, but this version just made this man a co-owner!
I disagree on the cover being better than Sam Cooke's immortal effort. Sam's "Bring it on Home to Me" is one of the top 5 songs of all time. Thats why it covers so well.
Leuk nummer, UB40 heeft dit nummer ook uitgebracht op hun nieuwe cd. Jammer dat hij er niet meer is. Een paar jaar geleden trad hij op, bij ons in Leusden. En dat was echt geweldig.
so right - those are the two best covers - better than the original if I may say so. It's all about the soul they put into it. Note that Pickett says it's one of his favorite songs. Guess there's something about that sentiment that speaks to an awful lot of people. Love lost and all that.....
who disliked this? one ass in every crowd, how can you dislike a voice of gold maybe he wasn,t photogenic enough for them, i am 6,3 an weigh 155 lbs. but i,m the same as him inside.
+Robert Davidson No one has ever did this song better than the incomparable Sam Cooke who wrote and created it. No one has ever sang any song better than Sam Cooke. He has more imitators than any performer on this planet. His credentials on audio all over the world.
EN ALGUNOS REFLEJOS ( YO NO SOY SAN TOMAS , PERO , SI TU PRESENCIA COMO CASADOS , ME ES VERDADERA , SE SENTIRÁ Y MIENTRAS TANTO , NO ME MOLESTARA MI SOLEDAD
Faulty logic! Have you ever heard Hoagy Carmichael's version of "The Nearness of You"? Contrast that with Norah Jones' version. In any event, de gustibus non disputandum est. Ya like what ya like, no point arguing about it. We both love this song.
elvis sold a lot of records. and was called the king by some but in this genre of music sam cook was on a level by himself. all you have to do is listen......
seldenkid48 I think you meant "no one has ever DONE the song better" than Sam Cooke. If you go back and read what I wrote, I didn't say anyone has. I didn't compare him to anyone, including Same Cooke. Big difference. He's not singing "Sam Cooke" he's singing Big John. And it would be "no one has ever SUNG any song better than Sam Cooke", in terms of verb tense, and of course that opinion is an opinion only and pretty much patently untrue. Plenty of great artists who can, and have, sung a whole lot of songs much better, including some R&B artists. Seems to be a relationship between the shaky use of English, and shaky logic? I do like Cooke's 'Change is Gonna Come' for the same reason I like Big John's version: stripped down where he could, even though he had to play to the music industry's pop/light ethic of the time. He sang pop/light with 'Bring' as well. In other words, Big John brought some church to it, and Sam Cooke had to hide it. Soul is soul, pop is pop. Both valid, but one grabs your heart with the truth.

I Knew I would love this even before I heard a note. 'cn brilliant!
Panda Ross brought me here. Thank you Panda for bringing back these legendary songs we all know but have kind of forgotten. Classic.
What an amazingly awesome version of this song. I can't believe I haven't heard it before or heard of the singer. I literally spent 4 hours listening to this song while doing stuff. Love this version. Great voice very different..

супер!!!!!
I'm getting diabetes watching this. Nice chain.
This is wonderful, but he sounds like little Eric Burdon of The Animals. Shows us just how terrific a blues/rock singer Eric Burdon was!
een amersfoortse legende
astrein
Nobody i mean nobody can do it like. Sam the man. Mr. Cooke right
Does anyone know if Big John Russel done a studio version of this?
+charlie pickard - No, not that I know of.
Pour Toi Marilou.
Big John makes his excellent version the equivalent of a sumi-e painting: pared down to the very essence. No one can do better with this song.
Robert Davidson I think I'll agree with that.
Robert Davidson Hey!, you should check Panda Ross's version!
Psychopath Skull I have.
+Robert Davidson No one has ever did this song better than the incomparable Sam Cooke who wrote and created it. No one has ever sang any song better than Sam Cooke. He has more imitators than any performer on this planet. His credentials on audio all over the world.
No. Wilson Pickett did a great version of this, but it was written and originally recorded by Sam Cooke.
Watch also PANDA ROSS sing this on the X Factor to Simon Cowell.
Diane L Jordan alfieboe
Phaedra Brindle leddiefloyd Eddie Floyd
I've listened all the versions I could find on youtube of this song and Panda Ross version is the BEST ... she is a legend

nice song, but the articulation is not there as in the original by sam cooke. that's why sam is the king!
elvis sold a lot of records. and was called the king by some but in this genre of music sam cook was on a level by himself. all you have to do is listen......
love this song
