It kills me watching that footage, it brings all the old memories flooding back. I am so glad my boy came with me to the last game, I will never forget it 😔
This is what I would describe as quite literally a beautiful thing. Thank you for the journey back to a time that brings on a huge amount of nostalgia. Nostalgia is that one thing that properly brings on the emotions of happiness from great memories of the past. But also the sadness that you will never, ever experience them in real time again... Really fantastic work Gonzo! 👏 P.s. Happy Birthday mate, it's my Birthday too! I'm 40 today and life begins apparently 🤔
Happy Birthday. Took me back reminiscent of days ., Bobby More, Martin Peters, Jeff Hurst and my favourite Billy Bonds. Running out of the Tunnel Thank you from.Aussie x
Fabulous memories, especially of my mate Peter Williams, who was one of the twins, with his brother Geoff, stewarding in the East stand. Peter was a larger than life charachter who used to 'blobbie you' when you weren't looking. We played darts as partners in the pub and bank leagues for many years as 'home & away' I'd wear the West ham away shirt and Peter the home shirt. I remember Peter winning a bet that he could eat the whole pub menu on a trip to huntington, without being sick. I never told anybody he sicked up some custard on the way home in the coach. It looks like his son was with him in the footage, we sadly lost Peter in December 2018. It would have been Peter's 60th birthday today, an amazing coincidence. Thanks again!
What a fabulous video Gonzo, thanks for sharing , I can see you were dewy eyed watching the clips as I am as I write this. What fantastic memories , what a stadium we were lucky to have experienced it. As the saying goes ‘it is better to have loved and lost , than to have never loved at all’ .
Gonzo glad you warned us about the end song, had a lump in the throat remembering all the great times i had at Upton Park, with my Dad Uncles and brother ,loved the video
Hi Kris Sorry I couldn't join the livestream earlier- I was out buying a birthday card & present for my eldest son who shares today with you. Many happy returns BTW. My first-ever game at Upton Park was somewhat earlier than yours- it was way back in March 1970 - we beat Liverpool 1-0 thanks to a goal by Patsy Holland. That game was also the home debut for Jimmy Greaves, who we'd signed from Spurs - he was part of the Martin Peters transfer the other way. Some brilliant memories in this vlog - many thanks for sharing.
You standing in the North Bank took me back...When it went all seater,I sat everywhere, but when it was standing,I stood just behind that goal..I see my best days there back in the 70s and 80s.
Great video Gonzo, I lived in the next road to Green Street, I remember the cup winners cup win and the FA cup win the year before that,Green Street was raving till 3 am when the fans came back from Wembley. The last game I saw was from the chicken run where WHU beat Spurs , Martin Peter put one passed my favourite keeper Pat Jennings. Then I moved to the USA, still watching the Hammers when EPL is on here, will watch the Fulham game at 12.300 here today.
Hi Gonzo, watch your channel a lot and enjoy your content , so was pleased to see my brother and nephew in the footage of crowd singing bubbles, sad day when we left Upton Park
I still remember my first match aged 10. It was 23rd August 1969 home to West Brom and we lost 3-1. I was hooked. Stood right down the front of the West Enclosure with my Older Cousin and his girlfriend. I could just see over the wall. To see Bobby Moore a few feet away plus Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters was magic. It was the start of a lifelong love affair!
Keith I cannot believe this. My first game was exactly the same game. My father took me and we sat in the old West Stand. It rained and I had holes in the soles of my shoes, so he bought a copy of the Evening Standard to soak up the rain. Geoff Hurst scored our goal, and a bloke called Dick Krywzwicki ran us ragged. But like you I was hooked, and I always believe that such a defeat prepared me for all that was to come. I would not trade a minute of it. My high will always be the ECWC semi final v Eintracht Frankfurt. Gonzo this has been a superb trip down memory lane. Not a shred of bitterness, just fantastic memories. Once again we are indebted to you.
@@stephenkilpatrick9457 Nice to meet you Stephen....imagine that, we share our first game. I'm pretty sure Jeff Astle scored at least one of their goals. I have the records book and I'll check later. I think attendance was 29,000. I still have my programme. Agree the Eintracht Frankfurt semi final second leg trumps all games! Brilliant night.
Really appreciate this Gonzo. I’m from New Zealand and only got to go to the Boleyn ground once when I was about 10 and we played Coventry in the championship. Don’t remember all of it but seeing this footage was really amazing, cheers mate!!
I was an exiled West Brom fan for a few years living in east London and I used to watch from the chicken run. Brilliant when under the lights. Remember Stuart Slater tearing Everton apart in 6th round of FAC before the semi final debacle. Was a great ground - as great as the London Stadium is not. I was also there when the title went to Blackburn as Man U held - “you lost the league at Upton Park!”. Green Street was full of fanzine sellers.
Spent my 40th birthday doing the tour and my missus treated me to a night in the hotel. Woke up looking over the centre line. What a memory to treasure ☺
Really enjoyed this, brought a tear to my eye after 13 minutes, when we had the last Bubbles at end of match. I was there at that match and it brought a tear then as well..Remembered my late Dad who I used to drag along to the matches years ago. Pity you didn'thave a recording of the ' updated 'Payet song, where he was told ' you got some f****** front, you money grabbing ' etc. What a change of lyrics and really funny!
I respect the work you put in G but I find it really hard to watch without feeling a mixture of anger, frustration, nostalgia, sadness and....oldness! My God I miss match days at the Boleyn! I even miss travelling in on the District Line, COYI!
Somewhere in The Boleyn Ground was a jail cell. There was also a sauna in the home changing room which, to my knowledge, was installed but never actually used. I saw it when it was first installed & saw it again years later with a load of balls, cones & all that jazz dumped in there. Fantastic bit of nostalgia but, quite coincidentally, I must have had something in my eyes. I came over quite teary eyed.
Great memories, remember the chicken run had a season ticket late 80's to mid 90's when was standing cost £110. Came over after spending a few years in the USA around 2000 and the club officials let me walk through lobby and have a look around dugout on a non matchday it was like a dream day.
"The man that introduced the dugout to football was Donald Coleman. Coleman wanted to see the footwork of his players and to analyse their play with the ball. Sitting below ground level in the dugout allowed him to do just that and to learn about his players."
Great video Gonzo! I did the Upton Park Tour just before we moved so this brought back some great memories. We didnt go on the roof or gantry but we went everywhere else, great day! The London Stadium Tour is also worth doing btw. Also Happy Birthday! Did you know you share the same birthday as Ronaldo, Neymar and Carlos Tevez!
The part for the entrance to the east stand is exactly like my first game 13 years old me and my pal managed to get two kids for a quid tickets, my most valued football memory and it was only a 1-1 draw against Fulham, my dad was epileptic so he couldn't take me to games unfortunately that's why my first game was when I could go by myself. Great memories 😢
I was fortunate enough to play in a 6 aside charity event at the end of the last season at the boleyn. We got changed in the dressing rooms and came out the tunnel. At the end I went on a little walky and found that they'd left the press room open where they did all the conferences. Got some nice pictures of myself pretending to be the manager. Sick day out.
First game was late 70s in Division 2 lost 1-2 to Luton and stood lower West Stand. Yes went to the Bury 10 nil game and we bought there defender Paul Hilton lol.
Happy Belated Birthday .Gonzo. hope you had a great day too. and i live ten mins from the old Ground and still now i cant drive down Green Street . As i cant Stand Looking at whats there now. .COYI
The steward in the chicken run was Pater we were in row 1 first two seats near Bobby Moore end he was a really nice bloke got to know him well over the years he was also a Sunday ref
Anyone remember the ticket office up in the old West Stand? After you got your ticket tyou could just walk into the stand and watch the grounds men on the hallowed turf....better days...
Remember standing in the Chicken Run 85/86 against Ron Atkinsond MUFC. A sheet of phlegm eminated over Mike Duxbry as he took a throw in.....oh happy days!🤣🤪🤪⚒⚒⚒
Just wow, that is all. I have done the tour of the new place and photo documented it all, sadly I have to confess it is an impressive place, but it sure doesn't have the character and charisma of the Boleyn.
Just makes my hatred for them grow,I don't care what the teams doing on the pitch I'm always with Moyes and the boys we have had positive times at Upton park before but at least it was our West ham West ham UNITED
Like everyone else this all makes me feel very sad. It also makes me hate sullivan & gold a whole lot more. They did all that just to make a bit of extra money for themselves. This is when they were already off the scale rich, so was it in any way necessary???? The Boleyn is now gone forever.......
It kills me watching that footage, it brings all the old memories flooding back. I am so glad my boy came with me to the last game, I will never forget it 😔
Mr. Moon has left the stadium!
This is what I would describe as quite literally a beautiful thing.
Thank you for the journey back to a time that brings on a huge amount of nostalgia.

Fantastic Gonzo. East Stand Turnstiles. Remember my mum and dad taking us over Upton Park 53 years ago. Now living in South America. Brilliant!

God, I miss the Boleyn, maybe not as much as Gonzo misses hair, but I miss the Boleyn
Did you get my message for the westham magazine on Instagram
A wise man once said "Good afternoon one and all"
That first match you saw V Bury l think we won 11-0 and we bought their centre half Paul Hilton not long after, only West Ham could do that. !!
Remember standing in the Chicken Run 85/86 against Ron Atkinsond MUFC. A sheet of phlegm eminated over Mike Duxbry as he took a throw in.....oh happy days!🤣🤪🤪⚒⚒⚒

Makes me sad
