I was an early adopter of Barnes X bullets, and my conclusions pretty much mirror yours. I found that light for caliber mono bullets driven fast and aimed at the shoulder just plain worked. The lung shots weren't so reliable. They worked, but not necessarily right away, and the animal tended to cover more distance than I was comfortable with. What they aren't is a long range bullet, once they drop below 2000 fps they don't open very well. A custom Model 70 in 7mm STW loaded with a 120 grain X bullet at 3500 fps was my deer and American elk zapper for about 15 years.
Of course, now I've gone all Fudd and only hunt with a lever-action .45-70 loaded with hand cast lead bullets and home made black powder the last few years...such is life.😃

You are so full of BS and RUclips Groupie Parrot mouth taking BS I smell you through the internet.
By what you wrote all the Parrot mouthing talk you don't even own a gun you just concocted a bunch of RUclips comments nonsense here.
First common lie was Barns bullets don't expand! Oh, really then explain to me when I load 165 grain Barns TSX in 7.62x39 using 25 grains of W 748 that is around 1800 FPS then recovered bullets from deer are fully expanded.
I also have guided hunts in the Pacific NW to Alaskan from 1978 to fall 2019 .
Never have I seen a Barns bullet that was recovered ever fail or be a FMJ as you accuse the bullets of being.
Next that really gives you us as a liar you had to inject the big fad of all in gun videos the 45-70 lever guns that all knowing nothing at all parrot mouth talkers are over over talking nonsense over the 45-70.
I am not going to get into bragging about ranges but what I ca say is one of two 300 Weatherby magnums I own has a Leupold 6.5x20 scope that is used North Oregon coast Roosevelt Elk hunts that need to be shot over massive canyons - this rifle shooting Barns 175 LRX has taken quiet a few Elk at ranges the horns are barely visible on 20 power when skinning the Elk the Barns 175 LRX bullets are found fully expanded ! so don't even try to BS people Barns bullets are FMJ bullets because there are far too many actual hunters and smarter than you.
Even Barns crushed that lie the barns bullet won't expand in a video on RUclips where a barns TSX 180 grain 30 cal bullet was shot at 800 FPS into gel and recovered fully expanded!

I switched to mono (Barnes TTSX) in my .308. The results have convinced me to begin shifting to monos on all my big game rifles. BTW, the Barnes LRX will expand at longer range/lower velocity. Thanks for the vid.

    Great info, thanks man!
Each to their own with the zero distance, I'm a fan of 50m zero, depending on cartridge give you a second zero around 200m.
The mono bullets seem like a great choice at real world hunting distances
    Cheers!

Hah, last video I mentioned 7mm Rem Mag with copper bullets and here we are! Personally, I prefer the Barnes LRX bullets - better downrange ballistics while still holding up excellently at close range. Can't ask for much more. But I agree with you 100% - I'm not a fan of "lead spray" in my meat and I really don't like the ELD-X. Or any lead core bullet that explodes like that, which is most of them at close ranges and 7mm Rem Mag speeds. But ELD-X is one of the worst.

I’ve been using quality coppers since 2012, Barnes TSX, TTSX, LRX and Hornady GMX, CX. Cartridges ranging from 223 to 30-06. All have performed as advertised and I’ve been very happy. They are certainly not “long range” bullets, but people shouldn’t be shooting game at long ranges anyway. Perhaps they aren’t for everyone, and it’s great that we have so many great options.

If Barns bullets aren't long range bullets?, then what is the Barns LRX for ?
You've totally brainwashed by RUclips parrot mouth talker nonsense!

had the same problem with the Siera Gameking reloads I made for my 7mm-08 with lead fragments from bullet hypervelocity at 30 yards. Switched over to Hornady CX 139g pills.

I’m kind of with you on the MPBR setup question. I prefer a 200-250 yard zero, depending on cartridge. I think once I factor in potential human error, I don’t want a 6-8” target size (or more) like MPBR suggests. For big game (pronghorn and up) I want to start with 4 inches (+\- 2 inches) for my rifle, so I end up like you at around 2” high at 100 yards. Thanks

Thanks Ed, excellent video. I have moved away from big animal hunting, but I really appreciate the effort and detail you went through to produce the video. One take home for me is, not to rely on milk jugs for ballistic protection. Cheers😁

I mainly use a 9.3x62 for Sambar but occasionally take out a 300wm for fallow with 150gr interlocks.
I have used 165gr TTSX for Sambar with good results but I'm really keen to try 200gr federal terminal ascent for longer distance shooting, everything Ive read about them seems pretty good, they seem like an "all range" projectile like the ELDX but without the hand grenade aspect.

I have a 243 for fallow and am considering either a 270 or 300 for larger samber but I'd like that rifle to do some longer range stuff also. So I'd like to see the 270. Cheers. Alot of this bit over my head at the moment. But slowly getting there. I actually should be trying to bag a fallow now as I'm looking at 12 while watching this video but it's sooo fucking hot.

FYI there is an Aussie company making copper bullets, but can't remember their name sorry. Outer Edge projectiles.

I've developed loads using the Outer Edge Projectiles for my 25-06 and 308, and I still haven't been able to get out and test them on game yet.

I've used outer edge 200gr in my 358 win. That cartridge is a little slow for them, but the deer have still dropped.
