@@HobbyVolt I was never that big of a fan of their music back in the day, but the girls in my middle school class were so hyped about their music and their Chupa Chups lollipops. Man~ I feel old. 🤣
I honestly think it would be interesting to try and use this method with a two-part silicon mold trying to replicate parts and I mean if you have enough spare runners something like this you could theoretically build an entire Gundam from that so you only have to buy the one copy of it and I also wonder if doing this acetone process would work on pla late? Hmm food for thought because I mean when you're cutting little extra details out of it you're always getting those little bits that either you just throw them away and or push them off to the side and they're just getting wasted same with whenever you're sanding if you have a little collector bucket underneath while you're doing it you could even try with that
Also might want to state the obvious and use glass containers and metal lids otherwise a plastic container becomes part of the the sprue goo. Had to figure that out once the messy way.
Yeah! I always struggle to find out how thorough to be when making tutorials because I don't want to assume everyone knows everything while also not over stating obvious things! Thank you for this!
Would be interesting to recast face plates with it. I like the mech girl and pretty girl model kits and I design decals so extra faces and expressions would be cool
When I see the beam sabre goo my mind goes to using it as basing material for something chaos related either sigmar or 40k. Nurgle comes to mind but any twisted landscape could always use a pool of pink goo.
Thank you for the tutorial! I recently got the Strange Work Frosty Cat and when I opened it up I discovered that it didn't have the runner for the eyes! I'm following your advice here and starting the process to see if I can create some suitable eyes as a replacement.
What if you wanna remake a couple of parts for something new? Reason I'm askin is that I'm trying to make a brace for my Wing Gundam Ver. Ka so that it can hold its buster rifle one handed without it drooping. I'm casting the two parts out of non-drying clay and as for the mid section of this brace, I could do the same thing, cast the underside of the buster rifle in the clay or use casting plaster to make the mid section. Would this trick of melting down runners work or is it just a waste of time?
So, I've had some pretty good results with casting small pieces this way. Like foot guards and such. I think it could work well OR I'm a HUGE fan of Green Stuff World resin. I use it for cosplays and Gunpla. Just get the little UV light and pour resin into your mold and hit it with the light. Then paint. If you don't want to do all that, you could certainly use this trick.
@@HobbyVoltLast night I made my own spruce goo, at first it was a bit runny so I added more runner chips into the jar and it came out like a paste as needed. I'm waiting on the two parts that I molded to cure first, probably won't touch them until saturday or sunday before I pull them out of their molds. After that would be to cast the mid section and fit it together
Hi! this video is very educational. I might try your method to recycle all the leftover runners (believe me, there are A LOT of them) and try to do something with it. Thanks! P/S: Is it possible to use the dissolved runners to 'cast' new parts onto a mold? Is it durable enough to be used as backup runners for the gunplas?
Thank you so much! So I tried casting new parts and it works but the parts are kinda more flexible and less solid. I'm experimenting more with that and I'll probably make a video on it as well!
@@HobbyVolt Thanks! I never expected a reply this quick (smiles). Looks like there is hope for the leftover runners after all. Oh yeah, the runner graveyard idea never crossed my mind. Thanks for the suggestion
I've had SUPER BAD experiences using acetone on my runners, but it was super cheap, so that may have been an issue. Also. Cats. One called Smaug? I know it's not Gunpla related... But can we see your cats? The notion of repairing cracked parts with obvious preservation of the cracks sounds a little like Plamo Kintsugi.
Yeah! Smaug is my Sphynx. Odin is my Black Cat. Leia is my Calico! I can bring them on one day! But exactly! I couldn't remember the name of that concept. I always thought it was beautiful!!!
I have a literal box-load of sprues from warhammer, gunpla stuff and other kits, that I hoarded from building them... but found nothing useful for them. This was an enlighting watch. My wife's gonna be missing her acetone =))).
I just started Warhammer and now I also have a giant box of those sprues too!!! I do know that a lot of people melt those down for basing material! Thank you for watching!!!
#MOBILESUITMAS #HobbyVoltTheScienceGirl I suppose you could use this melted 'putty' to repair any gashes on parts you made while cutting parts? 7:50 LOL Those are some flashy dance moves! 🤣 Oh totally. You know it was going to be a good day when your teacher rolled in the TV and had a movie day planned. I presume kids in school don't do that anymore? Well at least not the VHS and DVD aspect. Do kids today even know who Bill Nye the Science Guy is?
@xxnike629xx You know, why don't you try to melt the runners inside your *BOXES* to make tons of putty? I think those will be more useful for you than in their runner state. After all, you're still too *COWARDLY* to build your kits again 😂😂😂 PS You still haven't posted your comments about HGUC Xi Gundam being *NOT* a P-Bandai huehuehue

Your editing has definitely improved over this project. Congratulations 18 vids 18 days is crazy hope your taking it easy for the most part.
Thank you!! I was hoping I would improve!
Finally a simple enough video, I snapped a joint recently and made a copy with putty but it was still too delicate, so this should work better
informative! just got into the hobby not long ago, its cool to see the community Gunpla has.
Welcome!!! I'm here to help, and most people will, too! Enjoy the hobby!
has anyone tried using plated runners?

LOVE this whole idea! I will start trying to see if this is something I can do!!! Thank you!
Glad you're doing well and your back 🥳
I got a Hexagon coaster silicone mold from hobby lobby for like $3, going to try to make a display stand out of sprue goo, thanks for the tips

Didn't know about those. I used the Tamiya Cement mainly for the same purpose, lol.
Yeah! It works the same!!
Wow you are super smart and creative girl! 👩🔬 On a side note you have really beautiful nails!

Tamiya cement works too.

wow, I didn;t know that you just had to use acetone or solvent
I've been melting mine inside a tin can with candle under it 🤣
I tried acetone but no luck so I'm definitely going do plastiweld. Thank u for this video.
Sorry for the late reply! I'm so sorry it didn't work!
@@HobbyVolt no problem I might need a better acetone I'll definitely try again soon 💪🏼
I have a trash bin full of cut leftover runners that I'm not sure how to get rid of. I'll try this one.
Does the need to be made of glass? I'm not sure what kind of plastics melt from plastic cement.
if compared with Epoxy Putty Glue. What is stronger after printing?
I'd say the epoxy putty glue would be stronger.

hi volt i have question can i melt plastic by using mr color stuff and which one i use to melt the plastic and thank you
I actually haven't tried that brand to do this yet! I would imagine all of them would work the same!
once melted how long time to have a new form dried?
While exposed to air out of the bottle you used, it should harden and dry within minutes. I give mine a full day to cure.
How do u disposal the extra liquid or they can be reuse ?
Great question! I let them harden, and then when I need to use them again, I just remelt it back to a more useable consistency!

Can this use to casting on Oyumaru or Bluestuff?
I'm actually not sure!
I'm trying to make runner putty, but it doesn't melt well and it seems thick, so I was wondering if I should add more cement?
If I casting it in blue stuff t, Will the thinner used be harmful to blue stuff?
Ive been searching but to no avail…..can u store the melted runner for months?
Yes, I had a test running for 5 months but then it dries out, you just put in more plastic weld until it softens up again!
Got 1 sub for ur speeeeed awnser🤩which was over 9000!thx
