    X-1 to X-2 was flawless. X-3 and X-4 were experimental but mostly successful in their own right. even if they felt under-whelming. X-5 and X-6 ended up feeling too stiff and incomplete compared to the rest, X-7 was an experimental abomination of a dumpster fire, and X-8 was a step back into the right direction, but too little too late. I feel the outcomes of X-5/X-6/X-7 is what contributed to X-8 not succeeding as much as it should have. And thus now we're stuck in limbo with no real future for the X-series in sight.

      I would say "remastering" X6 would make it lame as IMO the way it is makes it the most fun
      But if you want a more traditional experience, you should play the Tweaks Project, I don't like it as I am a fan of how the original game is designed, but those who like games such as X2 more enjoy it quite a bit. There's also N's Edition which goes even further with edits

    I've been playing X1 for 15 years, and today I learned that the Death Rogumer was the airship in the intro stage! What X1 excels in isn't one detail or another, but a whole plethora of them that build a cohesive world with a ton of moving parts you can interact with:
    - You can ride on cars, only in the intro stage, after shooting the enemies in it;
    - The Bee Tank destroys the highway when falling, which makes you learn Wall Jump - this is such a perfect tutorial that integrates with the world;
    - Not only that, but you see enemies that focus on destroying the Highway earlier on and later, you see that it's already all mangled up;
    - Flame Mammoth's stage freezing over if you beat Chill Penguin, indicating that the freezing from the Ice stage either came out of control or that the Maverick Hunters used it to their advantage;
    - The water drains/rises on the forest, and I STILL don't remember what triggers it;
    - The Head armor part PROTECTS YOU FROM FALLING ROCKS. THIS MAYBE HAPPENS ONLY ONCE AND IT'S SOO COOOL;
    - Launch Octopus' whole stage: ships above water you can climb into and destroy that can open up a whole new path, different enemies laid out on the surface and underwater, the Utuboros fight and how you can climb up on it;
    - The Death Rogumer crashes into the Power Plant and changes the WHOLE stage;
    - Smaller things like when Armored Armadillo enters the arena, the hole stays there permanently;
    - Cutting Flame Mammoth's trunk with a weapon that he's not weak to;
    - The subtle but powerful arc with Zero, and how you said, the game guarantees you get 2 important parts just through playing it, which no other X game does - and while this doesn't mean muuch, since most parts are decently easy to find in all games, it shows how much the developers cared about this - which AGAIN, there's an actual reason as to why you can't use the Armor Parts in X5, but I think that's too much dedication to the lore, but ANYWAY;
    I went through a period of my life in which I disliked X1 because... people seemed to like it so much. I'd hear stuff like "You can cut Flame Mammoth's trunk!" and think, "What of it?", but I was looking too much at the small picture. It took me some time to recognize what X1 does, as a whole, which makes me like it so much more, even if it's a bit of a brainless ride after paying it so much.
    I think the devs viewed this in a similar way when making the "small detail changes" in X3 and specially X6: "Hey, since X1 made level changes, let's do this again! We'll think of something", rather than "Ok, what would make sense for X having beaten this stage in the game's world, as something that we can reward the player with?". Fewer details can happen depending on your actions, and a decent bunch of them are less well designed: I get why beating Blast Hornet takes the boxes out of Gravity Beetle's stage, but the Heart Tank is right there - you can see it, it's not an implementation as graceful as something like the Heart Tank in the Forest Stage of X1, in which you can see that there's some kind of secret there, but it's hidden a little bit better - and while you may not know the trigger, you know that you can get it either with an armor part or just later in the game, while I was left scratching my head as to which weapon would break the boxes. Though the Bit, Byte and Vile MK-II interactions are great, and X3 as a whole is much better than people say it is, fully agree with the placement here.
    Regarding the other games, I oftentimes don't like brief descriptions of a game, but you manage to convey a lot with little time, that's a pretty great skill to have! Sorry for this monster of a comment, but knowing that about the Death Rogumer just made my day

    • @dmas7749
      @dmas7749 2 года назад +8

      hard disagree. my favorite bosses are ones that are predictable, but still take a lot of learning and skill to execute proficiently. i tend to not like bosses that rely heavily on reflexes, but i'm fine so long as that isn't the entire fight. Violen spits in the face of all this, having two moves, one being one of the easiest attacks to dodge in the whole series, and the RNGfest nightmare that is his mace, capable of hitting you with even godtier reflexes. if you face him in the counter hunter stages without upgrades, and he only wants to use the mace, you can basically die through no fault of your own.

    Maybe this is not a good place but I am going to tell you my feelings because I can't keep it.
    I might be overthinking, but have you ever noticed that most of X2's Mavericks are based on Mega Man 2's robot masters? Wheel Gator is based on Metal Man. Both have their primary attacks being a Circular Saw blade. Bubble Crab is based on Bubble Man. Overdrive Ostrich is based on Quick Man as both are fast and have Crescent shaped Energy cutters as their primary weapons. Crystal Snail is based on Flash Man as both have Time related powers. They both even have Crystal stages. Flame Stag is based on Heat Man as both have Fire Dashes as their primary weapons. Wire Sponge is Wood Man. Plant based bosses that can shield themselves. The only two bosses that are not based on anyone are Magna Centipede and Morph Moth.

    • @ExploDjinn

    My ranking, from favorite to least favorite:
    1. X3. Great music, mostly good bosses, awesome armor (love that hyper chip), one of the best weapons in the series (Triad Thunder from Volt Catfish). My biggest gripe is that everything just deals too much damage when you don't have the armor.
    2. X6. This game is not very good, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't my guilty pleasure. Great music, great armors (minus the charge shot), fun self-imposed challenges. Yes, the level design is terrible in most places, but the parts system is fun to use and abuse (for those who don't know, if you select and deselect a part on the same frame, you equip it without using your slot, essentially giving you unlimited slots).
    3. X1. Solid armor, fantastic set of weapons, great music, fantastic stage design. It's a better game than 3 or 6, but I have a greater liking to those than I do this one.
    4. X8. Fun characters, you can actually max out all characters in a single playthrough (though it will take a while), pretty good stages (mostly), fun secrets. The weapons, at least for X, are mostly pretty lackluster to me. I really love the customizable armor aspect for X (I personally use H head, any buster, I body, and either foot).
    5. X4. The weapons are really hit or miss for me, though I have seen them used well. I like the armor in this game (stock shot ftw); the nova strike is fun, and you get to play around with uncharged weapons for free. I feel X has a mostly pretty easy time with this game, and Zero, while harder, is still fun.
    6. X2. This game has really good weapons, a great armor, and good stages. The X hunters are all weird for me; either I beat them easily or die a ton. Probably the easiest final boss in the X series.
    7. X7. Mediocre game, the armor is functionally very boring (the giga attack does live up to its name, but takes forever to charge), you can't play as X for a while, but he's so much stronger than Axl it's hilarious. You can get all the parts on all characters, but it takes multiple playthroughs. This game has by far the most ridiculously overpowered weapon in the X series, which I'd say even rivals the Metal Blade: Volt Tornado. It kills EVERYTHING in the game, and every boss is weak to it if you can hit them. Just don't play on hard mode, that shit's terrible.
    8. X5. SHUT UP, ALIA! This started the trend of you can't get everything with both characters in one file, you can't even get all the parts on one file, the final boss is stupid, and the weapons are borderline useless for fighting enemies. The one saving grace is that the Falcon and Gaea armors are fantastic in this game, with the Falcon armor shredding enemies and flyimg through stages, and the Gaea armor making the bosses stupidly easy. Too bad you are forced to get them, in that order, requiring backtracking! Well, at least Dynamo is cool, if annoying, but that's his job.
    I honestly like X2, 4, and 8 about the same, so they're kind of interchangeable

    Good video, and a good list. I believe you did a good job of explaining why each game ranked as it did. However, since you asked, here is how it breaks down for me, from least to most liked:
    X7
    X5
    X6
    X8
    X3
    X2
    X
    X4
    Now, let me explain why.
    I've never played X7, so it's ranking is based on observation. Please note that I want to play it, never owned a PS2 and am in the middle of a long "financially restricted" spell, so the Mega man Legacy Collection 2, Mega Man X Legacy Collection, and Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 are all part of a long list of games for when I can eventually afford them. XP I'd just leave X7 off the list, but it is a great place to discuss something. The X7 team tried to bring the X series into the third dimension and failed pretty miserably... when they could have just made a better 2D Mega Man X game. If we value trying something new and failing horribly, then wouldn't that make X7 the best game in the series? Even the original Mega Man X is simply a "better" classic Mega Man game. Probably why I usually prefer to play as Zero. This is the game where X has to be unlocked, right? Since I find X's character, especially in these later games, grating, that might actually be a "plus" for me. XD As for Axl, I've heard usinghis copy shot is a pain, and that it isn't well implemented. Just reading about it, Axl very much feels like someone inserting their OC-do-not-steal into an actual X game. That being said, I otherwise like Axl, I just wish they'd used him better. How about while X gains ranged weapons from defeating Mavericks and Zero gains Melee, Axl gains bodily alterations? Not fully shapeshifting into something, and not with the common enemies... but being able to gain the "elemental" properties and replicate maybe one body part from defeated bosses? Okay, okay, I'm getting a bit silly myself with this, but I don't exactly have a lot I can discuss about this game so moving on...
    I have only played Mega Man X5 via the Mega Man X Collection for the Nintendo GameCube, which I no longer own. Maybe the original or Legacy release would rank higher, or maybe it would fare better if I were replaying all the games in the present. As is, I might be wrong in remembering the game's controls and graphics felt just a bit... off. The armor upgrades are a major part of the X series, and while this game gives you three armor options, the execution is lacking. If you choose to start the game as X, you get a nerfed version of the Fourth Armor; this is a relatively neutral thing to me. Having access to this armor early on makes playing as X better, and it makes sense from a story standpoint, but I kind of like starting as "nekkid" X and slowly growing. Speaking of which, the other two armors do NOT upgrade you slowly over time; you have to assemble all four pieces of a particular set to use them. Not only do you lose out on slowly becoming better, not only can you not mix and match them, but by the time you have them they just aren't all that useful. Even if you started with them, though, the Falcon and Gaea Armors probably wouldn't be that great. The Falcon can fly for a bit, but you can't charge Special Weapons with it. The Gaea Armor is immune to spikes and lets you push certain blocks, but you don't get to use Special Weapons at all. X's acquired Special Weapons often give him added mobility options, and sometimes gives him some added protection. No where near a fair trade off.
    There is how you can now switch between X and Zero between Stages. No padding the run time by making you play as either one or the other, which should be good... but they don't share upgrades. If you want to fully power-up X, don't play as Zero, and vice versa. If you choose X at first, you get X5's version of the Fourth Armor, while if you choose Zero you get his Zero buster. While the Armor Capsules are in Stages like they usually are, the other upgrades you earn are through some convoluted progress system; another big turn off for me. Aila popping in all the time was also annoying. I like the concept of the Mavericks getting stronger the longer you take to beat them, but the execution of it was "meh". After all of that, add in the story. Just because the game's creator thought the story should wrap up in game five doesn't mean he was correct: the Classic Series had continued even after the X series was introduced, so it should have been no surprise the X games would still be in demand... so don't try to force them to stop. The translation is also kind of "meh", though I do have some fondness for the silly Guns N' Roses inspired Maverick names. Oh, and then there are the random elements of the game; I like having multiple possible outcomes, but I don't care for it being down to chance.
    X6 is really tied with X5, and I also only experienced it through the GCN Mega Man X Collection. Most of the same complaints from X5 apply, but upgrades are now held by rescuable Reploids. If the game gave you a better idea of what Reploid held what upgrade and wasn't so cheap about Nightmares corrupting those Reploids, I doubt I'd have to defend the mechanic. The Nightmare Phenomena can vary from a mild annoyance, almost enjoyable for shaking up gameplay, to being the equivalent of a gaming wrecking random glitch. I didn't play either X5 or X6 too many times, so maybe I just got lucky the first try as the Nightmare Phenomena weren't that bad. The Nightmare Viruses get frustrating as well, even when they're not permakilling (via corruption) the rescuable Reploids. The Stage design is lackluster in places, and I seem to recall the game gets really "cheap" (as in, unfairly difficult or tricky) later on. They do that thing again where you can get an altered version of a past Armor at the start, though I don't think you can "miss" it this time. It is the Falcon Armor, and while its flight abilities were nerfed to an air dash, it can now charge Special Weapons. Again, there are two new armors that can only be used once every piece of a particular set has been collected... but just like the Blade and Shadow Armors better than X5's Falcon and Gaea Armors. I don't believe you can use Special Weapons with either, but at least their innate abilities almost seem worth it this time. I don't like having to wait to unlock Zero in this game, and I don't remember if X and Zero can share upgrades or not. I am pretty sure they don't, so that is again disappointing. Ending on a good note, I really like how X and Zero both have buster and saber, but with each being proficient in a different one!
    I have never played X8. I am going by what I've seen and heard about it... oh, and I bought the strategy guide for it years ago because it was on clearance. There's enough here that I am hopeful it is better than X5-7. It still has some serious flaws, due to how much grinding one needs to do, but I can live with that. The graphical style also takes some getting used to, and I'm not sure I care for how Axl was implemented. The whole Copy Shot thing seems... kind of stupid to me. I WANT to like Axl, but he screams "Hey, this is my OC who is like X and Zero but he doesn't just gain a version of the boss's weapon or ability, he can shapeshift into enemies and..." Call me crazy, but I thought it would be nice if, for a third character, they could copy bodily properties from the defeated Mavericks. Yeah, I know that sounds like exactly what what happens, but it isn't. XD Think of it like this; X gains a ranged weapon from the boss, Zero gains a melee attack, while Axl could absorb the "elemental" properties of a boss, maybe even some physical features. If that still sounds like how Axl works... then good, I'll enjoy playing as him more than I thought I would. :) I know that the Navigator's can be unlocked as extra characters. Sounds like they're mostly just alternate skins for X, Zero, and Axl but I'm fine with that.
    X3 is... odd. It has the solid foundation of the other, early X series entries, and that alone elevates it this high: if it ain't broke, don't fix it! We don't get Zero as a full-on playable character yet, but at least we can use him a little. I've always loved Ride Armors, and this game... flirts with better integrating them into core gameplay, but makes it so tedious I almost forget it is a feature. Speaking of forgetting, I have to really stop and think to remember the Mavericks. Flawed translation and story aside, I find X5 and X6's Maverick bosses more memorable, let alone the ones from games higher in the list. The Chips are also a mixed bag to me... because I don't like how you cannot just collect them all and swap them out (even if only between Stages). Not that I've used anything but the Gold Chip, since you have to skip the others to acquire it. :P I do like the animated intros some versions of this game possess... and since I mostly played this via the Mega Man X Collection for the GameCube (again), I'm used to having them. A silly thing I hold against this game is no Hurricane Kick. The first X game gave us the Hadoken, the second the Dragon Punch, so I really wanted that Hurricane Kick... and the mobility it could have added!
    I think we're in more or less total agreement about X2, so I'll move onto the original Mega Man X and X4. The original Mega Man X is a fantastic game, but I cannot play as Zero. I just prefer Zero and his saber mechanics so much, that it shouldn't be a surprise that I classify Mega Man X4 as the best. Both games still have some flaws, but not too many. As for the positives, again, the video covered them well, so I'll finally end this comment!

    You can really tell that extra love and attention went into X1. The only major downside is that you don't start out with the dash, and since that's such a fun part of the game, I pretty much always do Chill Penguin first.
    Still, everything else is so good that I'm gonna say it's tied for first place along with X4.

    X2: DAMN HARD, but satisfying.
    X3: I prefer the PS1 version *ducks from incoming objects*
    X4: Great, but easy... very easy.
    X5: Time Limit: THE GAME ((coming this summer from RNG F.U. industries)).
    X6: Every good idea was cut, frustrating, my exact responce at the time buying it: ".....WHAT THE F*** HAPPENED!?"
    X7: shutup, shutup, shutup, shutup, shutup, SHUTUP, SHUTUP, SHUTUUUUUUUUUUP!!!!!!!!
    X8: ............acceptable but we need a chat.
    C.M.: ....que?
    Incidently nice to see someone putting X3 a bit further up the list, still my favourite one and what introduced me to the series back in the day.
    My worst to best: X6, X7, X5, X4, X1, X2, and finaly best X3. I could NOT get through 7, I didn't know X8 existed till a few years ago and Command Mission was extremly hard to find over here in the UK.

    I'm currently working through the legacy collection after a very long hiatus from the series (the last time I touched it was in my teens, I'm in my 30s now), so I'm still getting a feel for the games, but currently X8 is my favorite for a bunch of different reasons which might not make sense to some people. I notably do not consider it the best game in the series - I haven't decided which one that is, but "the best" and "my favorite" are frequently different in my eyes, so that slot will probably end up going to something else, because as much as I love X8, it is not without its noticeable flaws.
    Also, I appreciate it when someone does a critical ranking while also making it clear that it's their opinion - feels like that's less common than not these days, so major props for that!

    To me X7 is by far the worst. It feels like shovelware to me. Unplayable.
    My favourite is X3. I like the challenge, the bosses, the enemy design, the (mostly) varied levels, the fact that the end game isn't garbage (very rare in this series) and the weapons are some of the best.
    X1 is my second favourite.
    Then X4, X2, X8 (not sure about where to put X8, I have only beaten it once back in 2016 and I never have a chance to revisit it), X5, X6 (X6 is not good but I like it a loooot more than X7).

    I actually think that X2 is the best of the SNES trilogy
    Sure, the bosses aren't great *cough* Wheel Gator *cough* ,but that's just a nitpick, everything else is just awesome!!! The music, the levels, the controls, the collectables, THAT INTRO STAGE... it's all just sooo good. Not only that, but Flame Stag is one of my favorite mavericks in the series.
    I only played the first 4 games, I never bothered to check the other games since I heard bad stuff about them, but here's my ranking from worst to best:
    4. X3
    3. X4
    2. X1
    1. X2
    Yeah I don't really like X3 that much, while it's fun for the most part, the entire game just feel really rushed.
    The bosses feel lifeless and boring, their expression barely ever changes, which is why they are so forgettable, and they are piss easy once you figure them out, they are nearly Toad Man levels of easy. I think the Capcom realized this, so they made the bosses kill you in 3 hits, which is always annoying.
    There are so many repeated enemies, sure Mega Man games tend to reuse enemies, but this game just takes it to a whole other level! If I have to see that stupid double wrecking ball red robot guy, I'm going to strangle someone!
    The level design is okay, but it sucks compared to the other games.
    The collectables aren't fun to collect, I can't really explain why, but I just never want to collect any of them. The enhancement chips are cool, but on my 1st playthrough I got the health refill chip, which is definitely the worst one, so they will always have a bad taste in my mouth. And I don't really care about the ride armor, they are fine I guess.
    Playable Zero is cool, but it's executed really poorly. One hit and he permanently dies??? Lame

    Tbh, the idea of remaking the whole X-series with the Maverick Hunter X games was a great idea, since the games are really wonky in quality and gameplay. Having every game remade to be more in the same art style and with coherent good gameplay and story, it could've saved a lot of things.

    This was a great video and I agree with most of the placements expect X5. Here's my order of these games from worst to best:
    8.Mega Man X7: A Game that is extremely boring with awful voice acting, a forgettable story, bland stages, bosses that take too long to die, the worst armor in the series, and useless weapons. X7 is a game that you play once and don't touch again (I won't even play it again for Countdown videos). To quote AVGN "It's bad, but in a boring way."
    7.Mega Man X6: A Game that had potential to be great, but it was rushed out the door with easy bosses, a mediocre story with continuity issues, okay stages, and awful weapons. However, it did have a amazing soundtrack, great Armor sets, and it did give X a useful saber, so I'll give it that.
    6.Mega Man X2: A Okay Game that has okay weapons, a pointless side quest, great bosses, decent Stages, a okay armor, and a fine soundtrack. It's a decent game, but it doesn't compare to X1. Not by a long shot.
    5.Mega Man X8: A good game that showed Capcom can still make good X games, but it has a lot of flaws. Such as the item game which makes the game take longer then it needs to, retry chips (which isn't that much of an issue to me, but it's still a problem), and the poorly written story. However, it does enough right to make a good game like the great bosses, the good stages, fixing Zero, the great voice acting, improving Axl, etc. Unfortunately, the soundtrack in X8 blows with only a couple of good tracks.
    4.Mega Man X5: A good game with a great story, a great soundtrack, fun bosses, okay weapons, and good stages. However, the flaws it has are pretty bad like Alia, RNG endings, and the item game which forces you to go back for a lot of stuff. To me, X5 is a good game that should've been the last in the series which didn't happen.
    3.Mega Man X3: A great game with a amazing soundtrack, fun stages, great weapons, fun bosses that do way too much damage, and a great armor. However, X3 has a lot of flaws like the half assed Zero, the stage effects that aren't explained very well (Gravity Beetle and Blast Hornet to be pacific), and a lot of the stages having long elevator sections. Despite those flaws, X3 is a great game that I always look forward to replaying (Next time, I'm gonna attempt a buster only run).
    2.Mega Man X4: A masterpiece that has Fun Bosses, Amazing Stages, The improved Zero with his fun saber combat, and Anime Cutscenes. The only things I hate about this game is that some of the weapons are too weak, the story is a absolute mess, and the soundtrack is extremely bland. Despite that, X4 is a masterpiece that I can play 50 times and never get tried of.
    1.Mega Man X: A masterpiece with amazing stages, great weapons, fun bosses, a great story, a kick ass soundtrack, and fun collectibles. All that makes up my favorite X game that's one of my favorite games of all time.
    Overall, Mega Man X is a great series, but I played and beaten the Classic and Zero Series more times because I like the gameplay more and the series doesn't have continuity issues like the X series does.

But to me, X3 is has better weapons, great stages, fun bosses that do too much damage, and a great soundtrack (The PS1 version isn't that great, but it still has some good tracks). X2 on the other hand had weapons that are either too situational or too weak. The only weapon I use without fighting the bosses is the speed burner. Interesting, mine would be
    X3 - It's just perfect, it's Mega Man X, but with everything turned up full blast. Secrets everywhere, amazing music, fun boss fights
    X4 - A little enemy spammy, but amazing story, music and great boss fights and best girl.
    X - It was a strong start with a few stumbles like Sting Chameleon always being a tedious pain
    X6 - The game is much more enjoyable with the Ultimate Armor. It really feels like it was designed with the UA in mind. You might not want to judge it based on UA, but who doesn't use the UA in X5 and 6? The music and boss figths are also fairly solid.
    X8 - It's very much a game of all time, which leaves it being mostly inoffensive.
    X5 - This is where they started the enemy spam and IMO this was the worst. The bosses were particularly simplistic. The time limit and luck was bad design. Alia interrupting. A worse Quick Man section. It's sad anything can be worse.
    X7 - The game does not fully function and the design was fundamentally bad anyway; even if it was polished and functioned well, the game would still be bad.
    X2 - Half the bosses are infuriating trolls that waste your time repeatedly being invulnerable, most of the upgrades are kaizo level nonsense and the game has a recurring issue with scrolling back enemies in ways that feel bad. Also the X-Hunters frequently get bugged and it is impossible to get the good ending. It's a shame we didn't get MH2, because some tweaks and polish could save this game. It's got good level design, minus the secrets and half the bosses are ok to good.

      I don't know if it's underrated, so much as unknown. Since the PSP didn't do the numbers the DS did, both Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X both got kind of ignored, which was a crime against both.

    I found x3 a little tedious compared to x2 like how the micro chips prevent you from getting the gold armor, the dual charge shots that combine being a little hard to use, and how you have to beat vile with a specific boss weapon to get the z saber.

    Here are my reviews.
    *X1: 8.0*
    One of the best Video games ever made. It defines what Mega Man X really is. It cleverly teaches you without any need of textbosses. Graphics in this game are gorgeous, soundtrack is soothing. The level design really compliments X's Dash and Wall Jumping. For the negatives, some bosses are luck based, Final stages are really lacking and the part system in my opinion could've been better, i.e. character power up by defeating bosses instead of collections. Other than that, this game is nearly perfect. Try it out once.
    *X2:6.0*
    I can't help but think X2 was capcom's biggest mistake. X2 is overall a good game. But there are a few flaws that it doesn't fix from the original and even adds them up. Collectibles are much more hassle than the first and some the items are unfairly hidden. The game kills you for fun several times and creativity is lacking. But you will most likely ignore them if you play it yourself. Unfortunately, it only gets worse from here.
    *X3:4.0*
    X3 was a cash grab from start to finish. It repeats the same 5 or 6 enemies over and over in empty, uninteresting corridors. Stages lack variety and feel the same. In fact, I can't tell these stages apart if I think. Even the music in this game is lackluster, with same beats repeating over and over again. To give credits where it's due, the end stages are intesting. Sadly, it's too late. This game's biggest fault however is it's artificial difficulty. This game starts brutal but once you collect a few items, this game falls apart. Mega Man & Bass is a much better game compared to this.
    *X4:5.5*
    X4 shine what comes to bossfights, probably the best in any Mega Man game. The stages, however, are pathetically easy with next to no punishments. This game does have some serious attention to detail, but it alone won't carry the score.
    *X5:2.2*
    X5 is not a game. It's a walking simulator with no punishments. You can just run through enemies and tank damage, checkpoints are littered like candy, this game has no real game overs and more often than not, you are being helped when you die. Not to mention this game looks stale and ugly especially when compared to it's prequel X4. Bosses are alright but they won't save the game.
    *X6:2.3*
    X6 is an endurance test. It isn't hard but it kills you for fun. The same three enemies repeat in everystage and some gimmicks overstay their welcome. The game looks ugly and cheap. At least it's better than a walking simulator.
    *X7:1.7*
    X7 is the result of what happens when creators don't do enough research. The 3D aspect of the game nearly kills it. More often than not, you are just walking from one place to another and shooting with next to no platforming. Do not play!
    *X8:3.3*
    X8, in my opinion, is a game that forgot what Mega Man feels like. The game has over the top gimmicks which do not belong in a Mega Man game. If the game didn't have Mega Man on its title, I wouldn't even have guessed this was a Mega Man game to begin with.

    X2, on the first playthrough, is the best game, but after you master it, it's kind of dull, which is unfortunate b/c it used to be my favorite. The X-Hunters will disappear if you go to the stage they are in and beat it without beating them in the stage, and that's why they are disappearing. Hope this helps.
    X3 is incredible, and has grown on me a lot over the years. It's that X game that's hard to figure out where everything is in, but when you do, there is so much to do. You can kill Bit/Byte or both of them, and get 3 different textboxes on Bit/Byte combo boss depending on if Bit, Byte, or both are alive. If you kill them both during the 8 mav stages, you get a new boss to fight, though I prefer B/B v2. I think he's called Godkarmachine-Oriny or something weird like that. Then Vile you can kill in the mav stages, and if you don't you fight him in his most powerful ride armor ever, showing an exponential increase in X's power over the years. Plus, it's the only clue as to when MMX3 takes place, as X tells Vile "Zero and I destroyed you years ago, indicating a passage of time since X1/X2. X2 feels like a backup plan of SIgmas if he failed in X1. Like the X-Hunters where there all along. And then there's the Gold Armor and the Z-Sabre, which I didn't find til like 15 years after I first beat it! I love secrets like that!
    X4 is cool, but it's too short IMO I beat both campaigns in one day about a week ago.
    X1 is my favorite, honestly. It was the game on the back of my SNES system box in the 90s and will always hold a special place in my heart.
    X5 is an epic story but the gameplay is kind of lacking.
    X6 I actually do like. It is the last one in my own personal head canon if it weren't rushed it would have been better, but if you go to X Maverickhunter 's youtube channel, he can beat the entire game without taking damage. It's sick and I recommend you check it out.

    Fantastic video. One thing that always stood out to me about X1 and X4 was that they had much higher production values than thier sequels. X1 had portraits for X, Zero and Vile when they spoke. X2, 3, 5 and 6 omitted these. X4 had anime cutscenes whereas X5 and 6 had stills. There were a lot of little animations that were fun, like enemies chuckling and such. X5 and X6 especially felt cheap, but X5 moreso because every stage was recycled from X4. The new enemies had less animation frames compared to X4. The X5 Sigma stages look laughably bad.

    Most people will say that X7 was the absolute worst of all that mega man games but I disagree. I ended up playing through X7 more than eight times in order to unlock everything. After you’ve leveled up at least two of your characters the game is progressively easier. Yes there are some seriously bad balancing decisions in this game but once again after you’ve beaten it a few times and leveled up your characters. It’s not that much of a problem. Playing through the game the first time is hell.
    The only MegaMan game I played through more than than times seven was MegaMan X8. I had to play through that game almost 12 times in a row in order to have enough credits to unlock all of the items, characters and get all the weapons.
    I would have to say that the worst mega man game is megaman X6. I really wanted to like that game. It had great music. It had great visuals in some stages. Some of the bosses were interesting. Unfortunately, the game was a mess. Japanese soundtrack and subtitles only. Poor balancing decisions for Zero.
    The way they Nerf the shadow armor in Gate’s laboratory with the “leap of faith“ is unforgivable. Merely by having the shadow armor, you should be able to blaze through Gate’s laboratory, almost as if it’s a reward to be able to do so.
    Then there is the fight with Gate himself. They made that so ridiculously difficult that Gate becomes almost more difficult than just about any form of Sigma.
    But Gate is supposed to be the ultimate boss of this game. Why is he treated as the penultimate boss while Sigma occupies the main boss spot?
    Someone didn’t think this came through. It feels as if they never play tested this game. If they did play tested, it feels as if they didn’t do enough play testing.
    I can understand X7 not being perfect as they tried something new - going 3D - and failed. But X6 was nothing more than a continuation of X4 and X5. There’s no reason why X6 should be as broken as it actually is.

    My ranking would go like:
    1. Rockman X/X4. I play both at least twice a year, these are fantastic games and they both share the first place.
    3. Rockman X2. Great follow-up.
    4. Rockman X8. An overall solid game. The intro song is a bop, it has my favorite final boss in the series. But the game is bogged down by gimmicky levels and farming.
    5. Rockman X5. Some levels are good, Volt Kraken is a great boss, the soundtrack is... *Chef's kiss* . Dynamo and Awakened Zero's themes are my two favorite songs in the X series. It's such a shame the production value took a nosedive compared to X4. Too much backtracking, some levels are really... not great. The part system wasn't clear, some bosses felt like I was fighting JPEG images. And worst of all, the random nature of the Enigma cannon and the space shuttle affecting the ending you get was a baffling decision.
    6. Rockman X3. I do not like this game at all. You take so much damage it's insane, bosses suck. Their patterns are a joke and their i-frames are way too long, making the fights drag on. It has one of the worst upgraded charged shots in the series. Why is Sigma's weak spot so small? And this game has by far my least favorite soundtrack of all X games, counting the spinoffs. Dear Lord, I'd take a forgettable ost over this! Maybe that's why I prefer the PS1 version ost.
    7. Rockman X6. Had potential, game sucks, only redeeming quality is the superb ost. It has to be tied to X1 as my favorite soundtrack.
    8. Rockman X7. I made the mistake of playing this already bad game on PC. No, I don't mean the X Legacy Collection 2 on PC. I mean the old Korean PC port. It's not compatible with any controller, so I had to use a third party software to emulate a keyboard with my PS2 controller. The confirm button changes depending on the menu, there is no way to change forms without opening the pause menu, and there were a few graphical bugs. Don't play this version, kids.

  • @diegoanmar

    I now X (the first one) is the mother of everything but X2 really improves the first one. You can dash without the special armor (which was was so stupid from the first game), you fight with 3 special enemies against just Vile, it introduces the real Zero with it's real armor with great blast and the sable and that will stand on all the other games, instead of the great "hadooken" you get the fire "sharioken" (you have to admit that's a suuuuper improvement). The only thing that in my opinion is so much better about X vs X2 is the emotional factor of it's history and I believe that both of them finds it with Zero; on X from the first stage you feel like "if everything gets too bad, there's no problem I can count with my friend Zero" and suddenly you are the one that have to do it by yourself without Zero and watch him die; on X2 is kind of emotional to watch Zero getting back and you really need to push yourself to do it, rather you fight against the 3 special enemies and get back Zero's parts or fight your friend which has tremendous skills. As I said I like more the emotional aspect of X but X2 deserves to be at the top 3.

    I haven't played anything beyond the 4th. But I still have to put X2 at number 1 for me. It expands on the first game without being super annoying about it like X3. X3 is rough, you die in like 3 hits early on, you have to revisit levels multiple times to get all the things, and the level design, really loves climbing vertical sections while being annoying about it. But X2, it's everything good about the First game, but not having so many the problems of the 3rd game, it just makes it the best of the 3 on the SFC/SNES . I also really love the water level in X2, as you dive down into the water at sunset, and there's like an under water city or something in the background, and most of the weapons are actually useful, not always the case in these games.
