appreciate that you kept the part of the video where you had to go back and redo the back side. Most of us will have the same experience.

Yeah, well if I didn't show my mistakes the videos would be even shorter. :)

Thank you for linking the cat door! I think you just helped convince my husband we can do this on our doors bc our cats are driving me nuts but he likes to have our doors locked at night.

We absolutely love ours. It is so convenient to be able to let them come and go as they wish or lock them on either side when wanted also.

Thanks for this video! We have the exact same doors and I was worried about the chipping. Appreciate the explanation about not putting it at the bottom bc I was about to order one of the cute cat shaped holes but that wouldn’t be good it seems. And I really liked that you showed when you had the minor struggles of getting it to fit and having to cut twice plus the constant “that’s good enough” lol! That’s my normal go to when doing simple projects like this :) Would have loved to see Mae-Mae use the door!!

Thanks for the kind words. It actually took us a few days to get her accustomed to using it. She is a little older and a bit plump, but she eventually got used to it. Thanks again for watching!

This was the 2nd one I've done. Very handy to have. Works nice to keep them locked in an area sometimes also.

There would be nothing to support the bottom of the door. The animal door would be the only thing keeping it together. If you have a solid core door this wouldn't be an issue, but most interior doors are hollow core, so they aren't built as well. Also, unless your pet is incredibly short, it doesn't need to be that close to the floor. Having it up some allows them to enter naturally and not have to crouch down.

I am wondering what the screws are anchored to on a hollow door. I purchased the one you installed here to replace a pet safe interior flap that is not properly anchored due to it being a hollow door. I put anchors in for the side that has screws but the door parts and flap come out, flap falls off a lot and won't stay in place. Mine only has screws on one side. But I have another door that is magnetic downstairs that had long plastic screws and bolts that anchored perfectly because the screws go through both side of the door and are anchored by the bolt.

The screws still go into the plywood veneer of the door, but I can see where it might not hold well. I suppose you could use a clear caulk to hold it in place also. Some other designs have the long screws like you mentioned.
