Two weeks into cycling my new tank wiht live plants and woods and stuff, and I spotted a bladder snail racing back and forth across the front glass. Fascinating.
I have baby bladder snails. I found them in my 10g tank and just moved all the fish over to the new 75g. Saw all these little guys crawling around. I transfered some to the big tank and the 10g will become the quarantine tank. They are welcome to the family just like the fish. I added some extra algea wafers for them were the big fish can't get to.
We had introduced some white mystery snails a while ago maybe November maybe and just today oct 22 2024 we seen these long pointy snails I’m thinking trumpet I’m assuming they nicked a ride in the new snails 😊
i have water wisteria plants, a catfish and around 20 guppies in my 30 Litre tank. i recently got some javamoss too, and it came with what i think is a bladder snail and somehow a ramshorn snail. they haven’t laid eggs yet. i’m just wondering if i should take them out before it’s too late. thank you
I have a small tank that has nothing but what I think sre trumpet snails. There are so many i remove the bigger ones and feed them to my turtles. I'm not too happy doing that but thats how i keep the population down. My question concerns mystery and nerite snails i have in my fish aquariums. What do you suggest is the best way to give them calcium? Thank you...
I just started with snails and my fav right now which I hope i succeed with is the rabbit snail, just because they have a purpose that helps one of my tanks and doesnt wreck everything via overpopulation. 😅 But I do have 2 pairs of ramshorn snails in my plant growing containers because they are just that good at keeping algae in check, repurposing the materials for my plants to use whenever they are ready, with 100s of babies in the second week already. Due to the nature of MTS I have considered getting some in hopes that the chilli rasboras would enjoy eating their young ones, making it a pretty neat cycle considering it s impossible to magically have live cyclops shipped at my home. I enjoy that they hide and also give live birth, meaning there is a higher chance for them to thrive and survive the unslaught in the event that they are food, so they don't go extinct. Sadly I have not found evidence that chili rasporas eat snails(young ones), but I sure hope so because detritus worms and rotifers will soon go extinct at this rate!
I am here becasue of Turbo, the Wonder Snail. No suprise, first tank I make with live plants. So, I come home and see a snail racing across the front glass. So, I said 'I wonder where you came from?" So, onwards, to teh internet! I learned thatTurbo is a bladder snail, and has already laid eggs - producing several Turbo Juniors. My tank is still cycling yet they seem to be thriving.
Always look forward to your videos 🤗🤗🤗. I usually get snails because of introducing plants to my aquarium. For my larger tanks I put the bigger snails in as a clean up crew. I prefer them over algae eaters.
@@ellies_exotics They are Jade Mystery snails. They seem to do better on a sand substrate than gravel. The ones in the tank with gravel substrate didn’t survive.
I picked up a bladder snail. Didn't know what it was. Just seen it and my fish needed a buddy. Lol his name is gary. It already laid eggs 😂. I'm in trouble already lol.
Any way to get rid of the giant leeches, they say they won’t eat shrimp, they are scary looking and my true nemesis. I will have to destroy my tank to get rid of them.
Hi Ellie, how many assassin snails would you recommend putting in for a lot of trumpet snails? Tank size is 60cm L x 32cm W x 55cm H. Thanks in advance, Collin
Hi Collin 🙂 about two years ago I had hundreds of pest snails in a 4ft tank. I added 8 assassin snails and they obliterated the pest snails within about 4 months. So for a tank half that size, I'd say you can probably put in a minimum of 4 to get the job done. They don't kill their own so there's no harm in adding more and just selling them again later on. Assassin snails will also eat flaked foods so you can keep them if you want afterwards. I hope this helps.
@@ellies_exotics Thanks that does help! I will definitely get some then, and I've just started watching your channel, and it's really cool. I use to breed lots of shrimp, and some fish too. Got back into it recently again, and this time going into it with even more passion and enthusiasm! There are some things I just seemed to 'forget' 😅, but that's why I started watching your videos...one is never too old to learn, and there's always something new that can be taught, if you're open to it. Thanks again and have a great day! 🌻
I have ramshorn snails and bladder snails I just don't feed them to control breeding and reduce food I have 9 of em not counting the babies and a bunch of growing bladder snails they don't need a lot of food unless you want to encourage some breeding like me🙂
I wouldn't mind Bladder Snails if they didn't poop so much. I have only 2 full-size adult ones and 2 almost adults and they are able to turn my aquarium into a cespool in just 2 days. It's everywhere and it's very visible. I'm not even feeding them because I am still cycling my tank, yet somehow they are able to continue producing spaghettes of poop.
I like Nerite snails. Great algae eaters, can't breed in freshwater. If you have plants, unless you only get those in vitro cups, you are bound to get Malaysian Trumpet snails. All my tanks except one with clown Loaches and another with puffers have them now. Still, as long as I do not overdo the feeding, they don't become a problem. Feed algae wafers a couple of times week, then they boom.
I dont have the money for or proper sized tank for fish, so i have 2 snails in a 2.5 gal planted riparium ❤ they seem to be doing pretty ok, ill jist fish the extra out if it does get a problem 😂
Funny enough this week's video is about how often to feed shrimp. 🙂 There are lots of factors that play a role so it's not a straightforward answer. But my tanks that have a few shrimp get fed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Tanks with lots of shrimplets get fed powdered food more often. I will show exactly how much and how often I feed in the upcoming video. It will be posted on Sunday 🙂
I like to call them live/fresh food 🤣My betta won't eat them by himself but as soon as he see my tweezers enter the tank he goes to the nearest snail and waits for me to crush it up for him. Shirmp go absolutely made for them as well.
@@ellies_exotics When ramshorns get going there aren't many other options! to quell there numbers! Plus they never go to waste! I have some with my Vampire Crabs but they manage to pick them out of their shells! Cherry barbs seemt to do a good job at plucking them out of their shells as well.
don't go with no snails, even as a new hobbyist, just go with nerite snails, as they cannot multiply in freshwater (they will lay eggs, but they will only hatch in saltwater.)
You need to not feed them anything extra, and nature will take care of the rest...this includes feeding your fish the bare minimum as to make sure no excess food builds....yes, multiple times daily I am checking parameters, and do small water changes to dilute....my snails came in on plants from a company which guaranteed no snails. Im building an ecosystem and learned very quickly the benefit from their ability to clean. Incredible.....
Your message at the end killed me! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Did you really pass away? :/

They reproduce without any partner. The population explodes quickly
They're all pals for me! I've been breeding ramshorns on purpose and have gotten some beautiful patterns/colours 😍
My favorite of the 3 is the Ramshorn. Big, slow moving. Bladder snails adventure into filters and hoses and stuff, but i tolerate it.

I have all three. I pop them for my over populated shrimp tank and shrimp/fish tank. They love 'em.
They do love eating them, yes 😊
Hi Ellie, I just subscribed. Love your videos, love your smile. Best of luck
Thank you very much, Jeffrey! 😁
Is it worth to have trumpet snails in planted 20g shrimp tank 🤷🏼♂️✌️I hate snails lol ✌️🇨🇦
I purposefully introduced trumpet snails to clean betweet the gravel :)

Where do you put the snails that are removed from the tank? Just diacarded or put in an outside pond?
Great post - thank you

I have the opposite problems, more ramshorn vs trumpet. My nemesis is the bladder and pond snails! Ugh
I have a small bluegreen algae problem what should i do then
