Absolutely. What some one will give us for an asset does establish a "true" price for just about anything. The thing is, some things are of different value to different people and
that's where the rub comes in with things to which we have become enamored. That makes it worth more to us than it might be to someone else who is more objective about it.

Ok. I have to mention the obvious. Has anyone noticed the hard sell on gold over the past 5 or so years? TV, radio etc. . it non-stop! Now turn back the clock the 2005-2018 or so. Every commercial was "We're buying Gold". They would even send you a postage paid envelope to send it to them in. Whatever you had! I don't see that anymore.
Makes me hesitant to go on heavy.

I’ve found that success in the long term is based on making 25 year, 10 year, 5 year, 1 year, 1 month, and 1 week decisions deliberately with perspective on outcomes on those timelines. Every time I buy an ounce of gold I make my 10-25 year decision for the month. Every 529 account I contribute to or 401k/roth IRA contribution is a 25 year decision for that month. Every time I mow my lawn is a 1 week prudent decision. That’s the way it makes sense for me to not stress or worry for the future.

Been in the prepping groove for about 14 years, always said you cant eat gold or silver. But I worked my way into gold and silver as I pretty much have everything else covered. So only been stacking about 8 months, but feel I am doing well, mostly silver, as it is easier to afford, but a little gold. As a self employed carpenter, I think people are starting to realize, that things arent always like they seem, and we are headed for a disaster worse than 08, it was hard to make the bills and stay in business that go round, better prepared for this shit show that is unfolding!

I've been buying equities for over 30yrs, and have outpaced metals by thousands of percentages, sure it's fiat, yet it pays monthly. I do own a lot of gold, yet as a fun hobby and not as a be all end all. My favorite is the Buffalo gold!

    • @edb3877
      @edb3877 8 месяцев назад

Indeed so. Borrowing and printing WILL destroy any fiat currency and has done so to about 4,000 of them over the course of human monetary history.
Oddly enough, people still have GREAT faith in their national currency in many countries and do not appreciate the value of diversifying their financial
holdings outside their national currency. Gold and silver are alternative currencies. They existed as money before any of the fiat currencies and will
survive the demise of all fiat currencies. Time favors gold and silver as money. It does not favor unbacked paper with ink on it as money. The end
of the fiat currency experiment is in sight, yet so many cannot or will not see this happening right before their very eyes. But reality has a way of
intruding upon those who think that they are in love with something or other and when that becomes clear to even the die-hards, a time of great
anguish will come. When will this happen? No one knows or can know the future. Being ready for this beforehand is the best we can ever do.

Over the past 40+ years, I have come to the conclusion that most finance types are in it for the money... OUR money, so their "advice" is not only sketchy but highly suspect.
Because of this, I read and studied personal finance for several years and become my own financial advisor. Did I make any mistakes? Yep, sure did, but mostly early on.
Painful mistakes are best avoided, so I considered them as "the price of education", learned from them, and worked hard not to repeat them. Retired at age 55 and have
been livin' the dream ever since. Coming up on my 20th year of retirement next October. As to gold and silver, I consider them as essentials and have added to my stack
of them over the years. Am currently at 20% of my net worth in PMs and am heading to 25%. That is my max and I will not exceed it. But then, I don't have to because
just about any scenario that seems likely to require them to live decently is sure to result in a 5-10x increase in their value. I'm not doing this to become filthy rich, just
to provide a decent standard of living for myself and my family.

I started buying Gold around 4 years ago, as a way to put my savings aside and outside the banking system. I don't like risky stuff, so I don't buy stocks or anything of that sort. Since a few months though I stopped buying, as I think that the spot price is too high right now, so I'm waiting for it to come down a little. I'm not in a rush to keep buying. My game is for the very long term..

I've gone out of my way to make sure I never went too crazy with buying at any given time and I think that helped me never feel too bad if there was an unexpected price swing. Stick to the plan and march on.

For the rest of the silver, I'm still a little upside down except for the constitutional and it appears I'm way up on it, except for some Washington Quarters. The gold I'm averaged around $1470.00 + or -, no collectibles. My gambling side has me holding off buying gold lately.

There are many paths that lead to financial success. For me, it was the stock market and a very nice 401k plan plus annual cash bonuses. Also retired at age 55 and did
not miss working for a living one bit. I did miss some of my former colleagues, though. Small company, good people who acted more like family than business associates.
Came to silver stacking and then gold stacking as a way to preserve some of my wealth from market crashes and inflation. Others whom I know did the same thing via
real estate investing or owning a business. Whatever way appeals to each of us is what they should pursue, if their goal is a secure financial future.

I really appreciate your 16 year summary in gold holding experience! I love to learn from others experience. You asked if we had anything to add to this, I think buying each countries most popular gold bullion coin is definitely the way to stack. ( The four 9's ones ) A persons stack should be at least 90% of their own countries coin, or the coin of the country they intend to migrate to.

Well done on becoming a qualified sparky, ive only been stacking a year but its a great rush to see the stack grow every month and looking forward to the monthly delivery or heading to the lcs to pick out something you have worked hard and saved for, its like when your a kid and your given something you might not look after it as much as you should because someone else paid for it for you, but when you save up and get something for yourself you look after it and appreciate it more, thats how i look at my stacking journey 👍

Nope. He would be far off. 16 years ago an oz of gold is around $680ish at the lowest point. Fast forward to 2023 ATH that's only roughly 207% gain. And that's assuming he bought every gold he had 16 years ago.
While SPY 16 years ago lowest point is $70ish and highest was $147 per share. Fast forward to now, its gained almost 600% assuming he bought all shares 16 years ago and that still doesn't include dividends. Gold is totally not comparable to stocks. Unless he bought Enron lol
Let's say even he bought a stupid stock like pltr from last year low to date his gain is already 262% in 13months. Starting from Jan 23.

I think taking the view that gold is a savings vehicle with a barrier to access is the wisest approach. The past years with tbills and other savings instruments paying practically zero, while the market roared with TINA on tap, who can say what the next 10-15 years will bring. I do expect a currency devaluation as in Plaza Accord 2.0, but who knows. IF this happens, gold will certainly be a good place to have stored some purchasing power. We'll also soon see what- if any- impact that Shanghai gold futures trading will have. I'm not sure if that has kicked off yet. Beware recency bias..

I know that it is not a popular opinion, but I believe that tenth ounce coins are the best value as the public will be able to afford them no matter how high gold goes; this means that you can recover 100% of your premium by selling to the public.
If you buy larger pieces, then you are mostly looking to sell to the dealers who will never give you full premium.
