This mission may be non-canon, but it, alongside many in this campaign, have become harsher in hindsight come the sequel.
    Never change, Goblin Sappers.
Can't believe the ice here held the Orc and Ogre girths well.

IMO, i dont really buy the concept of what it says that the losing faction campaigns of WC1 and WC2 are simply non-canon.
If the losing human campaign in WC1 is non-canon, then the death of Medivh and the assassination of the King Llane by Garona should have never been canon. Since both lore events were only acknowledged in the wc1 human story.
If the losing Horde campaign in WC2:ToD is non-canon, then the Zuljin rescue, Guldan making ogre mages by the Caer Darrow Runestone, and Guldan and Chogall betraying the Horde to raise the broken isles and open the Tomb of Sargeras should have all never been canon either. Since all these lore events only happened in the Horde story.
The way I see things is that BOTH human/Alliance and orc/Horde campaigns in both WC1 and WC2 are all canon, EXCEPT ONLY for the final mission of the losing faction.
Wc1 human - attack on Blackrock Spire never happened, or even if it did somehow happened, it surely failed in defeat. Blackrock Spire was never conquered by the Stormwind humans.
Wc2: ToD horde: the siege of Lordaeron Capital city DID happened, BUT the winning result is NOT canon ofc, the ending bloody epic cinematic is unfortunately NON-Canon. The attack ultimately end up in failure for the Horde.
In this case, this mission in Stratholme, IMO IS canon. The stratholme city here is closer to Darrowmere lake and serve as the major oil source of Lordaeron, and it was destroyed by the Horde. The Stratholme later that Arthas would purge in WC3 is a REBUILT CITY that was established in a new and different location, and it no longer is close to shores of the lake and therefore no longer serves as the oil refinery source, it rather serve as like major housing for many folks.

@@michaelandreipalon359 Yeah I always took it as the broad events are canon even if maybe the specifics are a bit off. Like, yeah the orcs didn't crush humanity in the First War, but it is canon that they sacked Stormwind before Lothar rallied troops to retaliate. So while the Horde didn't destroy Stratholme, it's probably canon that they besieged it and destroyed its oil production. Remember that it's grand strategy and not individual battles that win wars, so it's very believable that the Horde could have won victory after victory against the Alliance in the First and Second Wars and still lost overall.
