As someone who was introduced to Dynasty Warriors with DW4, hearing that first battle theme gave me nostalgia chills. Cant wait to get my hands on this game!
I don't know about you but the decision of silent MC really makes dialogue exchange unintentionally funny to watch at times as others had to awkwardly pause when even trying to mention your name.
31:20 that overworld map is actually really cool, love the exaggerated rivers and the orchestral music that goes with it. I'm unfortunately not too thrilled with the idea of playing some "nameless blank canvas character" but maybe I'll give this title a shot. I'm one of those freaks who actually liked Dynasty Warriors 9 and was hoping they'd improve on it and try again.

Bodies staying on the ground + the surviving soldiers acting tired after and stuff is HUGE for immersion. Turn on Chinese voice acting and it'd probably be enough for me to forget about all my complaints so far haha. Probably gonna pick this up when it's on sale.
The real tragedy is that Zhang Fei never met John Fey in battle. Could you imagine the confusion? I love how humans can never escape phonetics no matter where they are from. It's kind of cool honestly and when you start to think about how these people have names that sound close to names like Lou, Ron, John and Joe are mighty warlords. I can imagine a TV drama series called Hillbilly Warlords.
I have never been more ready to get home from work in my life, I was so excited for this game, i refunded my pre-order just to buy the deluxe edition to play later on tonight, this has been the most excited I've been for a game. Love the direction the game's going and hopefully they take some elements from this game and bring them to the mainline series, appreciate the early footage ST!
I haven't been excited for Dunasty series for a long time and also Samurai warrior series as well. Toei really need to ramp up their creativity and improve upon their well established blueprint as well. I'm excited.

It's a shame that it seems that the Yellow Turban nor the Nanman would be getting their own unique Peon Design. DW6 Peon/Soldier Design is pretty good imo, having distinct Soldier design.

I'm so hyped for this game! The demo, especially the charge sequence gave me feels i haven't felt since playing the DW3 demo at a store when i was a kid. I'll be back to watch this series after I finish the game!
I have no gripes or quips against the game thus far except one point. I'm still currently watching the episode, so who knows. I like the history facts you provide for sure. I think the illusion of choice during some dialog choices are pointless. Nothing wrong since it's not that big of a factor, but it would have been cool to have two distinctive choices that, let's say for instance, Guan Yu would react and/or respond differently even if it wouldn't change the narrative outcome or direction. The good points are the combat system, art direction, camera, ect so overall.. 👍
Looking forward to the walkthrough, as a fan of warrior games i don't mind the change but with KCD2 coming out soon and with recent KOEIs outputs I'll wait for a sale on this. p.s. maybe you could tweak audio a little bit,sometimes with sound effect(mostly those) and people talking in game, it' hard to hear you speaking.

I've been massively interested in both the novel and historical background since DW4 way back then. I really love to hear all those additional information you provide and truly appreciate your effort. I'm not completely done watching this first part of the playthrough but I definitely plan on catching up soon. Just one thing I'd like to suggest - if it hasn't already been taken care of in later parts which I haven't seen yet: The battle sounds (SFX) were too loud, sadly I often couldn't hear what you commented. Maybe you could lower those to some extent? Personally, whenever I played Musou games, I've always dropped SFX to 50 % or lower to properly understand dialogues and music. It might be just me but my brain simply can't properly process words if there are too many other loud sounds like SFX. And especially for informative videos like these it's a shame if people like me can't understand your valuable insights. So, maybe, this would be something you could consider? I'd be utterly grateful.
the music and sfx are both lowered to 2 while speech is set to 12 (default is 10 for everything) and it is still pretty bad in battles, but I will tweak it a bit more

I don't know if it's due to exposure of the 3 kingdoms lore or the 2010 tv series but the writing and dialogue in DWO is very cringe. Also they tried really hard to make that kid sound and feel like Melina from Elden Ring lol, I can't unsee it.

I’m interested in getting this, but I don’t know if I like the lack of replayability with so few characters, I get that there are more in the story, but only 9 and you get so little time with them... Maybe we can replay the levels as other characters after beating the main game as the OC? And I don’t mean free mode, but like in DW5 where you play specific events of a character.
It’s a narrative game with three separate story lines like playing the Wei Shu Wu modes before but you are always going to be the main character. So it’s just different from how dynasty warriors has always been
@ Right, maybe you’ll have lots of time with each faction once you make that choice, but for example on replayability, in Dynasty Warriors 4 you have Wei, Wu and Shu. And then you have Dong Zhuo, Zhang Jiao, Meng Huo and Yuan Shao. Those last 4 are different perspectives on the events that happened, at least at the beginning, but then go into the same ‘beat three main factions’, but they just added to the game. And I understand DW Origins is doing a completely different story style and narrative what with the long cutscenes and all that, but I guess I’ll just have to watch your Let’s Play to find out if my apprehension is misplaced or not. 😁

While they are famous, the actual weapons they'd be historically flexing with would usually be podaos, spears, or ji halberds that do not resemble those available in Song dynasty standards (from which elaborate embellished designs such as the crescent sky piercing halberds derive from).
I love Dynasty Warriors but the English voice acting and dialogue is awful imo and it's not the sort of game I can concentrate on gameplay and subtitles at the same time.

The protagonist's modern Japanese hair bothers me. I always play the less anime-looking generals in previous DWs. There was a small addon in a previous DW that makes Zhao Yun look like his ROTK strategy game version, it was great. Hope they put out something similar for the protagonist.

Guan Yu sounding like he's from downtown Detroit or something lol it's not terrible voice acting, but not what I was expecting!
I'm amazed that Guan Yu is so skilled that he's able to kill all the opposing force while not harming any allies mixed into them.

The voice acting isn't great, and so far it's without the fun camp of the ps2 ones.

The EN VA is so bad it's actually funny.
Game looks tempting, but I have to say, generic non-customizable protagonist with little options to play other characters is really unappealing.
I don't know why you keep calling that random pleb escorting you "Guan Yu" or whatever. It clearly states that his name is "Bearded Hero." Clearly he is an insignificant character 😏

The protagonist's modern Japanese hair bothers me. I always play the less anime-looking generals in previous DWs. There was a small addon in a previous DW that makes Zhao Yun look like his ROTK strategy game version, it was great. Hope they put out something similar for the protagonist.
I really hate the KPop art style in this game. It's really ugly and incongruent with all other RotTK content.

@@SeriousTrivia No, the older DW games portray them as far more masculine, with way more beards and rugged features. They were limited by low poly counts, but they weren't this intentionally smooth baby-faced.
I mean all the new characters they been adding since 8 and 9 are pretty much all Kpop boy band looks

It is shame this game is so low in content... the gameplay is great but playing different characters was the core experience of every Dynasty Warriors...

@ you will have to wait until dynasty warriors 10. This is a spinoff title. It is like expecting empires to have preset stages. It’s just not the same type of game. This one is more of a narrative driven game with a preset main character.
