This Facebook group strategy is genius! I've been trying to find clients through cold outreach, but it's been slow going. I'm going to start joining relevant groups and posting my work right away. Thanks for sharing this! It's so simple, yet so effective.
Great video Patrick! These are really good tips for beginner designers. For those of you who are more established asking people for a review may have you lose altitude with higher paying clients so I'd post something where you offer to do an audit of their website for free. This may get you additional interested parties and you'll still maintain your position as an expert.

Great question!! I think both are great. When you're starting out, you can be a generalist and go to networking events, or local business meetups and therefore get any client in person. But if you want to systemise your business and scale I personally would recommend niching down. This doesn't have to be an industry although that can really help!!

@@patrickspiegel So far - I made a site mockup for my niche in figma to show what I could produce and started posting in the way you suggested. At the moment the mods seem to instantly ban my posts in the first few groups I posted in.. I'll be persistent with it though, and tailor the message a bit
@AngusGaukrogerDev unfortunate that can happen sometimes Like you said, try different groups, be persistent! Maybe even message the admins personally and start a conversation. Then you can ask if it’s ok to post this for some feedback!

Thats a tricky one unfortunately! You can either learn the American accent which will take a lot of time. Or you can outsource the cold calling, or focus on a different client acquisition strategy :)
Good way to be labeled as a spamer... This rarely or never works, people are there to network, get referals, or new jobs from other people working in the same area, they are not there to be pitched a website, if they wanted one they would look for it elsewhere not in a group. Not to mention mods will insta ban you for spam
I've posted in countless group (1 or 2 times per group), got kicked maybe twice, and had many people message me after posting (As i wasnt spamming nor promoting directly) Plus I've gotten calls and clients from it. Will there be times that you'll be unlucky --> Absolutely, but if you play it safe and post in a respectful manner, then the upside is greater than the downside :)
It's not spamming, it's outreach. Even large companies do outreach of some sort. If you were to consider this method as a spamming activity, it would be like saying that ads are spam too... There's nothing wrong about reaching out to people and telling them about how your value might benefit them.

Great question! I personally like doing it with my personal account as people like talking to people. And if you have a business account with 10 likes people will see it more as spam. But that is only my option :) Hope that helps

Hi Patrick, I'm curious if you uploaded the image of the entire site or just the main page. When I post the image of the whole website, it resizes and becomes blurry in the post. On the other hand, if I crop it, potential clients won't be able to see my entire website. I'm interested in how you handled this. Thank you in advance :)
There are a couple of things you can do. Either upload a video (Square or Portrait) that shows you scrolling through the website. Or you can break the design into 2 sections and have it laid out next to each other on the design post. Or of course upload two photos where the design is broken up into 2 sections. Let me know if that makes sense!

I would use screenshots. If you use a link, then they will be unmotivated to go to another website to see results. With a screenshot, they see the design right there :)
I honestly just looked at a bunch of websites and practised myself. There’s enough free content online to learn the basics of design. Then it’s about Building that skill -> by experimenting and practising :)

I put out a message in an expat group that I'm in, and had to stop it after 6 people jumped on things within an hour. They're in a way different timezone too. Currently doing SEO and web work for all at the same time. My first agency clients, but I've been a designer for companies my whole career. It was shockingly easy, so this video absolutely tracks, and I know there's going to be even more opportunity.

Hi 👋 I personally use Webflow so no, you absolutely don’t need to know code to build websites for clients. I’m fact, most clients will prefer that you use no code tools :) Hope that helps
I was looking for "California Landscapers" and found out they do not hang out on FB Groups that much. Very few posts per week. They're pretty active on Instagram. Talking in that context. If that niche is what you want to pursue and makes sense for you, I wouldn't switch niches just because one strategy doesn't work :) For instagram, you'll probably have to do outreach. Well I always recommend people to create 2-5 designs so a potential client can see your design skills etc.

Would it better to only get inbound leads - 100%
But for most people outreach is the best way to get the first client

Even if you've never had any clients, you can create before-and-after examples by letting AI generate the website first and then redesigning it :)
