My okay started off like in lock up at then after boil it didn’t so I put the whole back in bark that’s just something I have indoors keeps the pot bit moisture inside for me. I really want to hope that transition from leca to lava rock will make a big difference 🤞 With a big disclaimer of a very different, moderate climate, I grew my Phals for five years in a seramis + pine bark mix and only with transition to a pre-mixed purely organic bark + coconut husk with traces of cocopeat mix I realized how much they hated the previous type of substrate I put them into. Still not sure whether the new substrate coming pre-fertilized with calcium and magnesium has been the true key to success, but I have never seen that many long ( = fast growing) active root tips through the walls of the pots before. Wish you a phabulaeous day too 😊
Hello, just read your comment. I just repotted some of my old phals in this ready seramis+bark mix. Do you relate to this product? Never used if for phals before but for other orchids. For some phals I used pre-mixed medium and some are just in bark. Was curious if it makes any difference. I'm 'growing' in Austria. Thanks for your answer in advance!
@@annareiter952 Yes, I guess it is, from a local Bauhaus. I am finishing transition to the other, purely organic medium, with one Phalaenopsis remaining. I must admit that the presence of cocopeat may reduce the longevity of the medium considerably, will probably have to repot already the next year. But my Phals seem to really love it.

Hola, good luck with the recovery! As I told you before I repotted most of my 'senior' phals. I was totally shocked how good their root system was in most of the cases. Even the roots on the surface with burned/dead velamen were healthy and branching in the pots. I was almost shocked. Unpotting was easy but repotting not so much as I didn't want to use bigger pots. Once I have seen a hack on YT to remove obviously dead roots (clear pots) with a crochet hook to avoid repotting Never would have come to my mind 💡Was really helpful and obviously has worked. Total drop in temps. On Tuesday we had +16 at noon, ja, mittags!! According to the weather forecast It will get warmer but the night temps are very low, between 14-18 Wish you a nice weekend! 😘

I have so many other things that I am currently concerned about, freaking out about orchids that cannot deal with my circumstances is, sadly, at the bottom of my list of priorities! We had a temperature drop here as well. This morning, it was 'only' 16ºC and yuck! While the day warmed up nicely, I can tell that tomorrow I am going to have my big duvet out already! Meh!! Not looking forward to constantly checking the weather forecast again. I think it may rain tonight, cloudy tomorrow and Sunday, so I am going to get to cleaning the house. If it rains, some orchids are going to get a flush, but I will have to flush them afterwards, depending on how much it actually rains. First rains are always garbage! Nina; Hate that I lost _ALL my Phals. but, they didn't survive 6 months w/o water. a few were really $$$ (like the Reds.) In total lost 70+ Orchids... including Vandas. Now only have 12 Orchids left. Had no one to care for them

Strange that the roots were so shabby when the plant didn't really reflect it as much as you would expect. I wonder if it wasn't a more recent (as in the last winter) drop of roots. I've got a summer bloomer that came with terrible roots and, even though it has a good root system now, the new leaves it is growing do not really reflect it. I was hoping the newest leaf would push out full size, but no. Oh well. Also, I had gone my entire life without having food poisoning (to my knowledge). That streak came to a messy end. No wonder people die from it.

I have to say that, while it will be sad if she keeps on declining, I have other pressures that make her possible departure so secondary! Boa tarde, Fernanda! 😍💐 bem vindo de volta!! É tão bom ver você de novo 🫶🏼 O melhor fertilizante para orquídeas é aquele que contém Cálcio e Magnésio. Dessa forma, você não precisa se preocupar muito em tomar suplementos tão cedo no cultivo de orquídeas semi-hidropônicas. A menos que você queira muito mais informações, posso fornecer alguns links úteis! por favor, me avise. Se a sua água estiver limpa, abaixo de 100 partes por milhão, então você não precisa usar água fervida, você pode usar a água da torneira sem fervê-la. É importante, porém, deixar a água da torneira parada por 12 horas, para que o cloro evapore e não cause problemas às orquídeas. Você pode usar água oxigenada para limpar as folhas, sim, mas eu não usaria nas raízes, A MENOS QUE VOCÊ SAIBA que há vestígios de danos causados pelos caracóis. Não há necessidade de aplicar água oxigenada nas raízes se não houver sinais de pragas. É melhor que as raízes usem peróxido de hidrogênio com moderação. Isso pode ocorrer em 3 dias ou uma semana, dependendo da rapidez com que a orquídea absorve o conteúdo do reservatório. seu pH deve estar em torno de 6,5 ou 6,7. Eu estaco minhas phalaenopsis por causa da maneira como elas crescem no vaso e, com seu peso, elas podem cair facilmente do vaso depois de vários anos. Além disso, quando eu repoto, tenho muitas raízes que estão mais profundas no vaso e quando preciso endireitar a orquídea, essas raízes ficam expostas de repente, o que não é bom para a sobrevivência das raízes, mas não há outra maneira de endireitar um phal depois que ela se inclinar do jeito que ela faz. Lamento que você esteja tendo que se curar depois de outra cirurgia!! Espero que você se cure rápida e completamente. Hi Nina, you’ve got me thinking again about my phals in leca and whether they actually are happy in that medium. I don’t want to change anything now because that will probably cause setback and the possibility of another year without spikes. My thoughts are to give them another growing season followed by the hopeful spikes in winter/spring and if I don’t see positive results then the leca has to go. What do you think Nina?
H Renate 😍💐 give them another growing season, Renate. The switching, as you quite rightly pointed out, could cause another set back that you can avoid. You are heading into spring, summer... ideal conditions, so give them this season to gain strength and they may just surprise you! I know that this phal of mine was super happy in lava rock only years ago. However, there are other components that may be making her unhappy, and that is the fact that she needs more light, which I cannot give her anymore, and possibly more heat than the others that are doing fine... we shall see! At least she is back in lava rock. If she did not like the leca, then that is one factor I could easily eliminate. The others? They are what they are!! I mist the roots every day with a fine mister. The TDS depends on the weather conditions. If I have high humidity I have 500ppm and on a day with very low humidity, 30% or less, I only fertilize with 300ppm. I also flush the mount every day with plain RO water to try and keep any salt accumulation at a minimum, in case I misjudged conditions with ppm quantity. So, during the warmer months of the year, I fertilize once a day, flush 2x / day using my mister and now as we are in fall, I fertilizer 1 day and alternate the next day with plain water as a flush. As the temps are still warm but the humidity is at 25% I am only using 300ppm. Hope this outline is of help 🫶🏼
Yes. Seeing as the ppm is so low, the moisture doesn't dry out so fast during the day, there is plenty of time for the fertilizer to be either absorbed or if there is some residue left overnight, the quantity is not such that it is affecting the roots. Mañana I flush and thoroughly 👍🏼

Io invece, ricordando quello che mi sembra di aver sentito in un video (quale???) e cioè che alle orchidee non interessa minimamente la tipologia di substrato bensì tutto il resto (luce temperatura innaffiatura...) sono purtroppo propensa a credere che luce e temperatura siano state fondamentali per ottenere l'extra performance dell'orchidea nel passato. Ciò però non toglie che magari fra 2 anni, abituatasi al nuovo ambiente, rifarà la bellissima fioritura che ti ha già regalato. Molti auguri
Ciao Luciana 😍💐 i video con informazioni che rendono un'affermazione definitiva (e spero che non fosse una delle mie!!) probabilmente non dicono perché dicono quello che dicono. Quindi, questa affermazione è in qualche modo vera, ma non del tutto, perché le orchidee che coltiviamo in vaso perché non tutti noi possiamo coltivare orchidee montate sugli alberi nei loro giardini, sono efifite. Le epifite montate o che crescono sugli alberi nei giardini o in natura non sono interessate al substrato perché ottengono tutto da madre natura o dal coltivatore che le ha sugli alberi. MA, le orchidee coltivate in vaso, sono sicuramente interessate al substrato in cui vengono coltivate, perché se quel substrato è organico, allora possono accadere di tutto con l'invecchiamento e, nel mio caso, se il substrato ha alcune qualità che non sono ideali durante le temperature fredde, allora sicuramente l'orchidea si prenderà cura di noi e ce lo dirà a tempo debito. Luce e temperatura sono fondamentali per quello che riusciamo a fare con le nostre orchidee. SE questa orchidea si riprende, fiorirà di nuovo per noi tra 2 anni, forse 3, a seconda di quanto velocemente sarà il recupero e di quanto mi sento a mio agio nel permetterle di fiorire quando tenta di farlo. Ho avuto delle orchidee che avevano un brutto aspetto e si sono riprese, e a meno che non menzionassi la storia delle orchidee, non si potrebbe dire che ci fosse un problema in passato. Non garantisco che questa orchidea resisterà abbastanza prima che le temperature scendano, ma vale la pena provarla 😊 Apprezzo davvero che tu abbia guardato il video, Luciana!! I really want to hope that transition from leca to lava rock will make a big difference 🤞
With a big disclaimer of a very different, moderate climate, I grew my Phals for five years in a seramis + pine bark mix and only with transition to a pre-mixed purely organic bark + coconut husk with traces of cocopeat mix I realized how much they hated the previous type of substrate I put them into.
Still not sure whether the new substrate coming pre-fertilized with calcium and magnesium has been the true key to success, but I have never seen that many long ( = fast growing) active root tips through the walls of the pots before.

Hello, just read your comment. I just repotted some of my old phals in this ready seramis+bark mix. Do you relate to this product? Never used if for phals before but for other orchids. For some phals I used pre-mixed medium and some are just in bark. Was curious if it makes any difference. I'm 'growing' in Austria. Thanks for your answer in advance!
@@annareiter952 Yes, I guess it is, from a local Bauhaus. I am finishing transition to the other, purely organic medium, with one Phalaenopsis remaining.
I must admit that the presence of cocopeat may reduce the longevity of the medium considerably, will probably have to repot already the next year. But my Phals seem to really love it.

I would say that the results you are seeing with your new substrate definitely has something to do with the fact that it has the calmag in it. Phals love calcium and magnesium!! So, yes... Hola, good luck with the recovery! As I told you before I repotted most of my 'senior' phals. I was totally shocked how good their root system was in most of the cases. Even the roots on the surface with burned/dead velamen were healthy and branching in the pots. I was almost shocked. Unpotting was easy but repotting not so much as I didn't want to use bigger pots.
Once I have seen a hack on YT to remove obviously dead roots (clear pots) with a crochet hook to avoid repotting Never would have come to my mind 💡Was really helpful and obviously has worked.
Total drop in temps. On Tuesday we had +16 at noon, ja, mittags!! According to the weather forecast It will get warmer but the night temps are very low, between 14-18 Wish you a nice weekend! 😘

I have so many other things that I am currently concerned about, freaking out about orchids that cannot deal with my circumstances is, sadly, at the bottom of my list of priorities! We had a temperature drop here as well. This morning, it was 'only' 16ºC and yuck! While the day warmed up nicely, I can tell that tomorrow I am going to have my big duvet out already! Meh!! Not looking forward to constantly checking the weather forecast again. I think it may rain tonight, cloudy tomorrow and Sunday, so I am going to get to cleaning the house. If it rains, some orchids are going to get a flush, but I will have to flush them afterwards, depending on how much it actually rains. First rains are always garbage! If I get through the rain without loosing power, then I consider that a good day 🤞🏼 so happy to hear that your Seniors are doing well 😃😘 thank you so much for watching, Anna! Nina; Hate that I lost _ALL my Phals. but, they didn't survive 6 months w/o water. a few were really $$$ (like the Reds.)
In total lost 70+ Orchids... including Vandas. Now only have 12 Orchids left. Had no one to care for them

Strange that the roots were so shabby when the plant didn't really reflect it as much as you would expect. I wonder if it wasn't a more recent (as in the last winter) drop of roots. I've got a summer bloomer that came with terrible roots and, even though it has a good root system now, the new leaves it is growing do not really reflect it. I was hoping the newest leaf would push out full size, but no. Oh well.
Also, I had gone my entire life without having food poisoning (to my knowledge). That streak came to a messy end. No wonder people die from it.

I have to say that, while it will be sad if she keeps on declining, I have other pressures that make her possible departure so secondary! I can try and hope for the best, but there is no room to fret things anymore. 😬🙃 you have the opposite scenario! I am sure that now that your summer bloomer has the root system, that the next leaves will catch up to the fact 👍🏼 roots first!! The rest will follow 😃 and that food poisoning?!! Yikes!! It comes 'out of nowhere' and until one hasn't figured out what on earth is going on, it really is double scary! I had that one time with Oysters! And I had a golf tournament the next day... I can tell you that I was in so much pain that even my abs were aching from the night of heaving before. It took me 6 holes to be able to swing properly and not let my partner down. Boa tarde, Fernanda! 😍💐 bem vindo de volta!! É tão bom ver você de novo 🫶🏼 O melhor fertilizante para orquídeas é aquele que contém Cálcio e Magnésio. Dessa forma, você não precisa se preocupar muito em tomar suplementos tão cedo no cultivo de orquídeas semi-hidropônicas. A menos que você queira muito mais informações, posso fornecer alguns links úteis! por favor, me avise. Se a sua água estiver limpa, abaixo de 100 partes por milhão, então você não precisa usar água fervida, você pode usar a água da torneira sem fervê-la. É importante, porém, deixar a água da torneira parada por 12 horas, para que o cloro evapore e não cause problemas às orquídeas. Você pode usar água oxigenada para limpar as folhas, sim, mas eu não usaria nas raízes, A MENOS QUE VOCÊ SAIBA que há vestígios de danos causados pelos caracóis. Não há necessidade de aplicar água oxigenada nas raízes se não houver sinais de pragas. É melhor que as raízes usem peróxido de hidrogênio com moderação. Então, saiba que agradeço por ser tão solidário com seu tempo 🫶🏼 Eu lavo o vaso toda vez que o reservatório está vazio antes de enchê-lo com fertilizante novamente. Isso pode ocorrer em 3 dias ou uma semana, dependendo da rapidez com que a orquídea absorve o conteúdo do reservatório. seu pH deve estar em torno de 6,5 ou 6,7. Eu estaco minhas phalaenopsis por causa da maneira como elas crescem no vaso e, com seu peso, elas podem cair facilmente do vaso depois de vários anos. Além disso, quando eu repoto, tenho muitas raízes que estão mais profundas no vaso e quando preciso endireitar a orquídea, essas raízes ficam expostas de repente, o que não é bom para a sobrevivência das raízes, mas não há outra maneira de endireitar um phal depois que ela se inclinar do jeito que ela faz. Lamento que você esteja tendo que se curar depois de outra cirurgia!! Espero que você se cure rápida e completamente. Eu sei que se eu fosse ao médico diriam que preciso de cirurgia, mas não vou mais ao médico. Sofro com muita dor todos os dias. Isso é minha culpa. Se necessário, colar fita adesiva na parte externa do recipiente é a única maneira que posso sugerir, sem saber exatamente o formato do recipiente. Hi Nina, you’ve got me thinking again about my phals in leca and whether they actually are happy in that medium. I don’t want to change anything now because that will probably cause setback and the possibility of another year without spikes. My thoughts are to give them another growing season followed by the hopeful spikes in winter/spring and if I don’t see positive results then the leca has to go. What do you think Nina?
H Renate 😍💐 give them another growing season, Renate. The switching, as you quite rightly pointed out, could cause another set back that you can avoid. You are heading into spring, summer... ideal conditions, so give them this season to gain strength and they may just surprise you! I know that this phal of mine was super happy in lava rock only years ago. However, there are other components that may be making her unhappy, and that is the fact that she needs more light, which I cannot give her anymore, and possibly more heat than the others that are doing fine... we shall see! At least she is back in lava rock. If she did not like the leca, then that is one factor I could easily eliminate. The others? They are what they are!! I mist the roots every day with a fine mister. The TDS depends on the weather conditions. If I have high humidity I have 500ppm and on a day with very low humidity, 30% or less, I only fertilize with 300ppm. I also flush the mount every day with plain RO water to try and keep any salt accumulation at a minimum, in case I misjudged conditions with ppm quantity. So, during the warmer months of the year, I fertilize once a day, flush 2x / day using my mister and now as we are in fall, I fertilizer 1 day and alternate the next day with plain water as a flush. As the temps are still warm but the humidity is at 25% I am only using 300ppm. Hope this outline is of help 🫶🏼

Yes. Seeing as the ppm is so low, the moisture doesn't dry out so fast during the day, there is plenty of time for the fertilizer to be either absorbed or if there is some residue left overnight, the quantity is not such that it is affecting the roots. Mañana I flush and thoroughly 👍🏼

Io invece, ricordando quello che mi sembra di aver sentito in un video (quale???) e cioè che alle orchidee non interessa minimamente la tipologia di substrato bensì tutto il resto (luce temperatura innaffiatura...) sono purtroppo propensa a credere che luce e temperatura siano state fondamentali per ottenere l'extra performance dell'orchidea nel passato. Ciò però non toglie che magari fra 2 anni, abituatasi al nuovo ambiente, rifarà la bellissima fioritura che ti ha già regalato. Molti auguri
Ciao Luciana 😍💐 i video con informazioni che rendono un'affermazione definitiva (e spero che non fosse una delle mie!!) probabilmente non dicono perché dicono quello che dicono. Quindi, questa affermazione è in qualche modo vera, ma non del tutto, perché le orchidee che coltiviamo in vaso perché non tutti noi possiamo coltivare orchidee montate sugli alberi nei loro giardini, sono efifite. Le epifite montate o che crescono sugli alberi nei giardini o in natura non sono interessate al substrato perché ottengono tutto da madre natura o dal coltivatore che le ha sugli alberi. MA, le orchidee coltivate in vaso, sono sicuramente interessate al substrato in cui vengono coltivate, perché se quel substrato è organico, allora possono accadere di tutto con l'invecchiamento e, nel mio caso, se il substrato ha alcune qualità che non sono ideali durante le temperature fredde, allora sicuramente l'orchidea si prenderà cura di noi e ce lo dirà a tempo debito. Luce e temperatura sono fondamentali per quello che riusciamo a fare con le nostre orchidee. SE questa orchidea si riprende, fiorirà di nuovo per noi tra 2 anni, forse 3, a seconda di quanto velocemente sarà il recupero e di quanto mi sento a mio agio nel permetterle di fiorire quando tenta di farlo. Ho avuto delle orchidee che avevano un brutto aspetto e si sono riprese, e a meno che non menzionassi la storia delle orchidee, non si potrebbe dire che ci fosse un problema in passato. Non garantisco che questa orchidea resisterà abbastanza prima che le temperature scendano, ma vale la pena provarla 😊 Apprezzo davvero che tu abbia guardato il video, Luciana!!
