Hi all, I'm Lawrie the Catachan player in this game. Firstly spoilers for anyone reading this before watching the battle. Secondly I'm sorry for mistakes in this game. I don't get to play as often as I'd like but I'm hoping to play lots more in 10th. A massive thankyou to Luke for the game, we've played a few times now and it's always great fun. So I think I may have been able to make this game closer in many ways. Had I known the command squad with Bullgryn Bodyguard would be that resilient I would have put them into the Swarmlord from the start to tie him up. I really should have put Straken into the Carnifex's with the Bullgryns as I'm sure they would have taken a couple out and helped to hold that flank. I know I need the Bullgryns to all have Power Mauls not Grenade Gauntletts. But They are the ones I currently have painted and modelled and I always try to play full WYSIWYG lists. But that being said I just couldn't resist putting Staken into the Swarmlord. I felt the points rolled in well through the game but I just wasn't causing enough damage. The list will be amended and powered up. Yes a Bigger tank is on its way and more Bullgryn mauls. Thank you all so much for your support. I'm sorry I let the guard down this time but the Catachans will draw their Catachan fangs and return. Speaking of which you can follow the army progress on Instagram "catachanfang"
This was more a fun list to say bye to Catachans in 9th. I have no idea what will happen to them in 10th so I i wanted to get in all the Catachan heros I could.
Ah but if it hadn't been for Catalyst. I think the entire game would have been different. If only my deny went through to stop it. Straken would probably have taken the Swarmlord down and gone on his own rampage with the command squad. Oh well, next time.
Hate the Catchy army coz of the figures (plastic) were nasty....your army is gorgeous, lovingly done.
@@richardbradley2335 Hi Richard. Yeah the Catachan plastic box set is so old. So it's been a lot of work to get them to look current against all the beautiful new 40k sculpts for other armies. I really hope Catachans get some resculpts soon. Fingers crossed.

Hey mate. I'm lucky enough to have a metal Catachan army. My big questions - accepting model limitations, is why the Exterminator? Its like the worse tank and I know we love it but it isn't competitive. Id suggest a vanquisher? My Guard is og so the lemans are circa 2002 and the only tanks Guard had back then - you may remember- were Vanquishers, Demolishers, Exterminators and Lemans. I'd definitely take a Vanquisher, it's still very original and you gotta make hay while the sun shines because it did about 20 years of being utterly rubbish.
Also massive respect for playing pure Catachan keyword but in order to use all my lovely models I often field line infantry or even Cadians as Catachans. You'll remember the old Catachan list relied a lot on Veterans and special weapons teams, both of which are gone, so I think double ssault weapon Cadians is much better than double flamer Catachans as keywords go. Is this something you might consider? Because if you're running lasgun/flamer then I'd humbly submit you wanna be born soldiers over expert sharpshooters .
I personally, as you may, find BS lists a bit boring so I appreciate the embrace of doctrines but I do feel you need to maximise their potential to offset the loss because BS is so powerful.
Finally, mixed heavy weapon team was a bit of a what moment - personally I prefer "pure" teams. I'm so no sure you were bouncing your orders (which was a huge thing for me playing but is a massive boon,), and I think you forgot aura rerolls on Straken.

This is a fun one to watch. It's getting a little cluttered with all the names, unit markers, and objective markers, but apart from that that board is fantastic!

A mistake I encountered though. The capacity wall of flesh of the Tervigon works if there is 15 termagants in front. To not be effective, it needs less than 15.

Just a small suggestion, maybe you could add the annotations (or what they are called in youtube lingo) for each turn on the timeline for easier replaying, otherwise good job this was an entertaining game.

Hi Tom, yes we felt the same atmosphere. It was a very thematic game. Luke sets up amazing tables to help with that and films the battles so well. Really pleased you felt the Alien vs Predator vibes too. Sadly the Catachans were the hunted, but they will regroup and go again. 👍

@@CatachanFang have you played with the jungle rules? I brought the catachans as a kid when their Codex was brand new but didnt understand enough of anything really. I will go for the Ork Blood axes as the opposing force with the jungle rules. Just like the Catachan devil audio book :)
I remember reading a really cool old battle report, of dark elder vs a catachan devil's army. All with the catachan rules. It was on a jungle board, in an old white dwarf. I remember thinkong it was sooooo cool. I'll have to try and find it. Oh I'm reading the catachan devil book now. It's really good 👍 I want to mave Alladon Hellfist

@@CatachanFang that was an awesome game. Would have been epic to see Strachan or Marbo take down a monster. Do you have the Hellhounds? I’m a huge fan of seeing them slide in and the detonate amongst the enemy ranks.
I love the battlefield, the minis, the terrain, the camera work, the narrative aspects; however, I feel like you can tell most people didn't actually watch this through or pay attention. Because after ~2hrs I started to just skim thru with double tap >>10s so I may have missed something but the Catachans literally killed 1 Carnifex, and a handful of guants, with the tryanids ending spawning more for a ∆ positive. So sad for the Astra Militarum, it wasnt Alien V Predator, it was The Battle of Klendathu. All of their guns just bounced off everything. Their blades found no purchase. Study up Catachans players.

A blast weapon can be shot after advancing I think, as long it is an assault weapon...
Nope, rules state that blast weapons can't shoot after advanced.
@@Vichyssoise1000 excuse me but I can't find the rule you are referring to, neither under Assault or Blast rules: can you point that out in the Core book or wherever it is? And another question rises if this rule exists: which is the sense in putting in the same weapon profile (as for Screamer Killers, Warp Spiders and Aggressors for example) the two rules? Assault can make me advance and fire, but Blast prevents me from that...in the same weapon?🙏
I really hope 10th edition gives the Catachans their knives back. The Catachan Fang. Give it something special to make them at least a threat in melee.

Honestly the catachans did much better than I thought, having only two russes I thought it would be a wipeout. But I was pleasantly surprised, but even then I know its not the catachan playstyle but I feel as if it would benefit the army to have another one or two tanks.

@@robertandersen4164 yeah, with 10th around the corner. I'm really looking forward to making a new list. I do have the tanks for it. I'm a little worried that Catachans may not feature in 10th though so I wanted to get lots of characters and theme into this list just incase. Next time I'll certainly try to bring it home for the Guard Robert (with more tanks)
@@CatachanFangit probably would have been fine if the nids had followed the fluff theme and done swarms of gaunts. Sort of a tale of the tape, sadly.
@@CatachanFang I felt a rush I never had before watching guard from your game, who cares about meta! I would be more than happy if you kept everything exactly the same! You showed me something I didn't know the guard ever had in them, the mystery of the Warhammer world and its community is why I will never give this up.
And yes James' guard play is great and is as meta as you can get basically, but I think your army has situations where James could never hope to win, and the strength of your army shows serious, if not in my opinion meta changing potential in a melee/shooting guard hybrid. Especially with Straken and those bullgrin, and everyone here knows that a guard army is almost always lacking in close combat, yours survived for 2 or 3 turns against a swarmlord some of your units tying those melee units up for as long as they did combined with a few more tanks behind them to back them up I daresay equals if not surpasses the typical meta guard army. Those units are perfect, because even though they didn't kill the nids they held up the nids for a long time and that is all they need to do with a dorn in the back and those russes.
This is the first time Im going to say this for a guard army but I am excited for your return to the channel the sooner the better. And with the improvements you are already making, I think there is a high chance for you to I daresay perform better than any guard army on the channel so far.
