    I dry my herbs in my fridge. Just harvest the leaves, wash them, then put them into a jar without a lid. They will be dried in a week or two. I get the best result with oregano.

    I bought a mesh hanging herb air dryer from Amazon and am using that for drying my herbs. Mine has 6 sections and i just lay my herbs on the mesh bottom of one and that's it. You get air flow on all sides plus the top and bottom. The mesh is dark green which keeps things dark for them as well as protects the herbs from pets (cat and dog), dust, etc. I can dry large bunches of 6 different herbs at the same time. Super easy to use. They come in 2 sections up to 8 sections.

    My house is tiny and closets and pantry’s are shared spaces. I hung my mint and dried it but had lots of dry crumbly leaves around. This method is great if you can leave the mint along to dry. Great for folks with space. One comment suggested using the fridge. I will try that. Another comment suggested an Amazon hanging air rack with shelves. All very interesting and since I love mint I appreciate all these methods. Thank you.

      Yes you can. You can put a paper bag or newspaper cone over the leaves and dry them there.

      Yes you can dry it for longer. Sometimes if the weather is humid it can take longer to dry.

    Would drying them directly under sun fasten the drying?

    • @NickandJulie

      Direct sunlight will turn the leaves brown and will compromise the oils in the leaves making them useless. Always avoid direct sunlight when drying herbs :)

    Why do you recommend not cutting mint in the midday sun or when it is humid?

    • @NickandJulie
      @NickandJulie  4 года назад +2

      The heat of the sun causes essential oils to vaporize. We want as much essential oils in the leaves as possible. Humidity makes drying difficult and can cause herbs to mold.

      @@NickandJulie thank you greatly for this. I picked some mint in the humidity 😟 but I will keep in mind for this next time since it grows in the garden like a weed! Lol.

    Hi, new to the herb community. I planted some mint and it’s good to go but I don’t really know how to use it when it’s dry. I normally use it on tea. What benefits does dry mint have and how do I use them? Thank you.

      You can crush it up lightly and put in some rolling paper or in a bong and smoke it with or without weed, smoking mint has its benefits bc it has no tobbaco or THC and it makes you relaxed

    what about the dust which you would have within these two weeks of drying the mint? it just bothers me :(, apart from this, its great video, and idea, thank you for sharing :).

    • @NickandJulie
      @NickandJulie  6 лет назад +3

      Good thinking. I didn't have dust settlement on the leaves since this was in my closed pantry its a little bit more sheltered. An idea is to make a hole in a paper bag and stick the hanging string through it so the mint is sheltered inside the bag and then hang it if you don't have a sheltered area. Thank you for watching!

      Dusty mint tea 😅. I cover mine with triple or more layers of cheese cloth. Works well. Or when drying small amount, paper towel does the trick. Make sure to tuck the edges well or use paper clips all around

    you know it's dry when you can crush the leaves in between your fingers and it breaks easily. Like you would be able to powder it if you wanted.

  • @brandonGCHACHU

    Why do you have to hang in a dark n dry place? I'm in Phoenix...110 heat...dry air. Will that ruin the mint?

    • @NickandJulie
      @NickandJulie  6 лет назад +1

      Hopefully its not 110 inside your house so hanging to dry inside will be fine. When storing them try to avoid exposure to air, heat, and light as much as possible to extend the life of your mint. but dry air is good. The less moisture, the less likely it will mold.

    • @NickandJulie
      @NickandJulie  6 лет назад

      My favorite is one bag of chamomile tea (this year I am growing some of my own!!), about 5 mint leaves, some honey or sugar depending on your preference. Cover for 5 minutes to let it steep. And there you go! I especially appreciate this tea when I have a cold. I want to try adding some thyme or sage as well. I love the scent of thyme. Experiment and find your favorite combination :)

      You can smoke it by itself, i recommend not drying it all the way though. About 70% dry is best. If you want, try mixing it with mugwort and mullein. You can find both online hella cheap, and mixing 40% mullein, 30% mugwort, and 30% mint will give you a great smoking blend with a similar texture to a drier tobacco or bud.
