Hey! I started a few new things... Amazon store front, my own merchandise and a Patreon account if you are interested in any of it. Thank you! *Amazon store front - www.amazon.com/shop/oldschoolhgs *T-shirts and more - teespring.com/stores/an-old-school-home *Patreon - www.patreon.com/anoldschoolhome (soon, I will posting Patreon exclusive videos)
Thanks, All the way from Alaska. Yes, I started a Herb garden, first year harvest and I am impressed with the Mint. I started Apple Mint and Chocolate Mint as well as the main breed. I really love these plants, and all that God has Given us so we can feed the world.
Wow.... i have this in my garden with my flowers... i love the scent of it and i often just pull it through my hands and smell the aroma... but thanks to you i now have a good idea the value i have in my garden... thank you...
Thanks for sharing! I love growing vegetables, but never tried herbs. This year I did and wow! How great is it to have mint, basil, oregano, parsley & fresh rosemary!! Would love to see more videos. Thanks for posting!
Good to hear herb drying advice from a fellow Arizonan. I was concerned about the heat in September too strong to dry herbs outside, but I do have a shaded porch that may work. Monsoons are late this year, and although the humidity is higher then usual, it is still very dry. Thanks for this video it was very helpful.
You're so awesome... Thank you for your video it is helpful. I'm growing mint in containers, and I absolutely love the smell. Today, I harvested peppermint and hanging it to dry thanks to your help. I just planted chocolate mint about a week ago and look forward to some great teas.
:) Thank you!!! And yes, I had it in a couple of restaurants here on the top of lamb chops and it was SO SO SO good :) Thank you for stopping by! I appreciate it!!! Have a great Sunday!!!
I live in arizona and I have fresh mint from my back yard garden all the year. It never die. The problem is I don't like mint taste, so I dried some this year and I spray some on salad and it really make the taste better.
Thank you so much for this video. Now I'm ready to dry peppermint leaves for tea. I Appreciate the tips and also the time it took to complete this video. Love all the way from the Philippines! 😊
Thank you for making this video. We have lots of Mint plants but did not think to dry them. I will go pick some now because I would like to have that special tea also and plan on different smoothies with mint added. We are also In Arizona (SW). Judi
Glad I found your video. I just trimmed my spearmint plant and wanted to find out how to dry it. Happy you recommended just laying leaves out to dry, no oven. I too live in AZ, and the last thing I wanted to do is turn the oven on. Looking forward to more videos
Hi sis, I really enjoyed this video. I'm Native and this is exactly the way my foremothers did it so it's the way I'm doing it too. Thank you so much. Loving my mint tea😘🙏🏽
Hello P.C.! Both, lamb and beans go very well with it. And the mint jelly on lamb chops is just heavenly :) Thank you for your visit and I hope you are having a wonderful and restful weekend!!! Best, Sasha
Great share! Mint really is fantastic. For us the Sweet Mint has been the best for eating or tea, etc. but the Chocolate Mint grows so much more productively and smells so good. The Spearmint is really good too. Ours has been going crazy right now and needs a good trim. Will have to tie it up like this. Thanks for the share!
Hi Sue! My pleasure! I would love to grow camomile but I wasn't sure how it will do here in our hot climate... It is worth the try... I will try this fall. Back in Bulgaria, many people go up to the mountains and make their own herbal tea mixes. I used to do it with my aunt and grandma as a kid. And my aunt is up in the mountains as we speak :)) Thank you for watching Sue!!!
Hi Jim! I know you are not too crazy about lamb, but if you guys cook beans, in my opinion, is the best herb you can add to them. I hope you guys are having a great weekend! And as always, thank you for your support Jim!!! P.S.I did not get notified on either one of my accounts about your upload today... We were driving home from lunch just now and I happen to see that you uploaded a video... By the way, I payed D.E. $10 on his life stream and asked about the sudden decrease in views and subscribers since June (and that I'm not the only one). He said "Great question, check your CTR and your average view duration"... I did... Problem solved, I guess, LOL
Interesting. I would have never thought of it with beans. Might have to try it. Thanks for letting me know about not getting notified about the upload. I was wondering if that was happening. The answer you got from D.E. leads to another question for me. I have always wondered what a good average view duration would be. Would it be somewhere around 50%, or would it be higher? I guess I will go check mine now. Thanks for that!!
I enjoyed your video very much so I subscribed 😊. I am going to take my mint out of the garden and put it in a pot like you. What I want to know is what kind of things do you have mint in besides tea?
you have pretty much got a natural dehydrator just by stepping outside don't you sasha ?.......the natural sauna here has been on full-blast for months......happy thursday.
LOL, that's right! It has been a bit humid here, too in the past couple of weeks as we have a monsoon season going on now. But yes, for the most part it is pretty dry. Thank you Allen! You have a wonderful day, as well! Best, Sasha
@@AnOldSchoolHome Yeah, I know peppermint is supposed to be better for the belly, but when you live in the desert, you take what you can get. Besides, I still like the strong, sharp flavor of spearmint over peppermint anyway. My sons and I live in the middle of the Mojave desert, in the southern most tip of Nevada. Its a lot more dryer and arid here then in the central and southern Arizona areas because we only get about 20% of the monsoons that you all get over there, and that's on a good year. I got a large amount of moringa seeds awhile ago. Hope they are still good. I want to try and create a micro climate with them. Not just for food, but also as an abundant natural resource for mulch and compost to build up the health of this dead soil out here.
Speaking of monsoon storms - the are almost non existent here. Over the years they got weaker and this summer we only had one in July. Many outside the valley, but hardly any here in the Phoenix metro area.
@@AnOldSchoolHome I understand. That's what this area went thru about 30 years ago. In the late 1980s to mid 1990s, we would get 1 to 3 monsoons a week on average, during the monsoon season, from may to September. Giving the area a break, albeit short lived, from the intense summer heat, because they almost always hit in the late afternoon or early evening hours. But by the late 1990s, they pretty much just stopped. We'd get the strong winds and sand. Maybe one of our famous 5 inch rains, which is basically one drop every five inches, but that's it. Area's surrounding us would get slammed, most of the time, east or south of us, in AZ or CA. 70 miles north, in Las Vegas, would get some in a normal year, of course this year has been anything but normal. Now, 1 every 2 to 3 years, is the new normal.
I started growing peppermint, spearmint, mint chocolate last year, the peppermint/spearmint is doing good, but holy cow that mint chocolate went nuts in the area, I literally just had to pull a bunch up!. How long can you keep mint for also? Also, my Italian here is super tall, when should I trim it and dry for-is the same for all herbs like lavender as well?
Sooo im from Bulgaria too and i wanna grow mint for tea because i drink like 5 cups a day and the store packs are flavourless... Do you have any recommendations about maybe what season i should start growing it and what kind of mint is better for tea? And I'm not dumb I'm just curious because I'm gonna grow it in a small garden outside of my house not in a pot. Поздрави. На 17 съм и никога не съм гледал каквото и да е...
Hello! I would recommend the spearmint, it is my favorite variety. The chocolate mint is a bit too strong. If you are in Bulgaria, plant the mint in early spring when there is no danger of frost/freezing temperatures. If you are planting from seed, soak the seeds in a wet cloth overnight. The easiest way to start your own mint is to buy a plant from the store/market and transplanted into your garden. You can even get a few mint sticks from someone who grow it, put it in a cup of water and in about a week when roots start forming, planted in the garden. I hope this helps! Good luck and let me know if you have any questions; I’ll be happy to help! Приятен ден 😊 Саша

This was excellent to see. Now I know what to do with mine.
Great! Thank you for watching!
Thank you for this I’m going to try it now!
You are welcome and thank you for watching!
Mint grows wild where I’m at, so this is helpful.
And by wild, I mean it’s just kind of here, with the dandelion and clover.
That’s awesome - I love herbs going wild. Thank you for watching!
Mint jelly..lol....wanna see that..... beautiful feel to your home ma'am

Nice! I've never tried it on salad... I have to give it a try! Thank you!
You say you spray. Do you infuse an oil or how do you get it to a spray form?
I think they meant sprinkle 😊
Thanks for the great video.
You are very welcome and thank you for watching!

I've never tasted anything with mint in it so this is something very new to me. I'll have to give it a try!👍

Nice, I use fresh cutting in a french press but this is a good idea :-)
Thank you, I appreciate your support!
I dry my herbs in microwave for 2 minutes ( 2 hand full ) nice and green better then oven or fresh air 🤷🏼♀️
I loved the video, thank you for sharing
Thank you, I really appreciate it!
There is mint in the garden and I noticed the stem does get woody. I thank you for the insight! Now I’m going to try the lamb recipe with mint :)
I hope you enjoy 😊
Enjoyed your video. I grow my own mint as well. The tip on drying I will definitely try 😊
Thank you! I appreciate your support!
That is a great idea Sasha! I haven't even tried drying any yet. I have a dehydrator, but this would be easier for sure.

:) It is tasty :) I think anything higher than 50% is good...
I need to figure out how to keep them watching longer I guess. I think I'll have my coffee first though :)
😁 Me too 😁
Thanks very much for this! Once it's safe to return to my office, I'm hoping that I can serve mint tea to my clients!
I love mint tea and I hope your clients get to enjoy it soon 😍
Enjoyed this
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Thanks for that lesson what if I just sun dry it directly does it have any effect
I’m not sure… my grandma always kept it in a shaded place.
Nice!

Question, how long the mint on the glass jar is good for?
Hello, I still have some from when I made this video which I think was 2 or 3 years ago and I still use it. Very flavorful.
What kind of mint was in the large container??? My favorite is wild spearmint. It has a nice, sharp, strong flavor. Far better then peppermint.
One is spearmint and the other is chocolate mint.

You are welcome :)
I make mint tea without drying it, it just has to soak a little bit longer, I made a video about it ❤️
That’s really nice 😊
