Sizzla being slightly dishonest here about his visa. Its not based exclusively on criminal records. Although that has something to do with it, it has most to do with political diplomatic relations between countries, less to do with actions of the individual. Sizzla's visa was cancelled in 2010 along with Buju, Beenie Man, Elephant Man and Bounty. The US did this as a form of revenge/leverage against the Jamaican government during the Dudus situation while Dudus was still a fugitive. These artists were also being targeted for their stance on homosexuality. Not all Jamaican artists had their US visas cancelled in 2010. Just those that were branded as being "homophobic" by the US government. Sizzla, with his marijuana possession charge, travels on what is called a visa waiver. Meaning the decision was made by the US government to "waive" his marijuana charge for the purposes of US travel. So in 2010 when the other artists visas were cancelled, Sizzla's waiver for his previous marijuana charge was removed, so he couldnt travel to the US. The same exact thing happened to Bounty Killer. He had a marijuana possession charge in 1997. He got a waiver for this charge and was allowed to travel to the US until 2010 when the US government retracted Bounty's marijuana possession waiver, and NEVER restored it. This simply allowed Bounty's marijuana charge to once again be a reason to deny entry to the US. For unknon reasons, Sizzla's waiver was restored recently, but Bounty's never was. Out of all the artists who had their visas cancelled by the US government in 2010, Bounty Killer is the only artist that has, unfairly and without explanation, not gotten his visa privileges restored. Even Buju, who was convicted of felony drug trafficking inside the US has had his visa restored. The US visa process is corrupt and politically motivated. There is little, if any, logical reason to it. As the interviewers pointed out, the very first song Sizzla performed in his return to America, he sang unedited "rasta no mix up with homo." This was courageous or stupid depending on how you look at it. In the very same performance, a person from the crowd tried to pass Sizzla a spliff on stage. Sizzla refused it and said "You trying to get my visa cancelled?" So the visa and it's possible cancellation was clearly on his mind. Not like he just forgot about it, but he still performed the songs unedited, which again is either stupid or courageous, when he KNOWS that's why he was targeted and why his visa was cancelled, for lyrics like that. The visa process is a mystery. I'm glad Sizzla is allowed to travel and perform in America again, but he should be more careful about what he performs or he could easily lose it again, and he knows that. They still need to restore Bounty's visa immediately though.
