Noisia - The Hole Pt. 1

  • Here's our song 'The Hole Pt. 1'. It's not essential to know this before listening, but here's what it means to us: it's a song about a journey into the space inside yourself. A cathartic, claustrophobic journey of self-confrontation. Apart from that it's also in a different time signature than 4/4 (it's more or less 17/8). This makes it virtually unmixeable too. We hope you enjoy it. Love, Noisia

    If anyone is wondering about the rhytm, here it is:
    |k _ _ s _ _ s _ _ s _ _ s _ _ s _|
    Basically a typical jungle beat with snare every 3 beats, but one additional beat at the end, which makes the last snare last 1 beat longer before the first kick of the next pattern. And also at the beginning of each 2nd, 3rd and forth pattern, there is a snare in the second beat
    |k _ _ s _ _ s _ _ s _ _ s _ _ s _|k s _ s _ _ s _ _ s _ _ s _ _ s _|k s _ s _ _ s _ _ s _ _ s _ _ s _|k s _ s _ _ s _ _ s _ _ s _ _ s _|
    so that snare sounds like the 6th snare of the pattern, even though it is in the beginning of the next pattern

      Could you explain this to a dumb fan like myself? I have no idea what these technical terms mean

    • @frankiecze3370
      @frankiecze3370 4 года назад +29

      @@WhiskyHangover Very simply put, in the case of most other dnb tracks, that are 4/4 (and the majority of all western music anyway), you count to 4 in each bar. Each bar therefore contains 4 quarter notes. You can "half" a quarter note and get two shorter notes. These are then called eighth notes. What 17/8 means is that the beat is measured in eighth notes and each bar contains 17 of them. It is an odd time signature. If you begin to count to 17 (with the beat) when the track starts and after 17 start again from 1, you can hear when another bar starts, which in the case of odd time signatures can often be tricky, as opposed to for example 4/4. The whole odd time signature thing is more complex and im a dumb fan myself so i hope this answer suffices and wont upset anyone.

    • @chris-pw5ck
      @chris-pw5ck 4 года назад +3

      @@AldenDoble well one maifestation of this time signature is that you CANT mix this with other tracks.
      the beats will run apart even at the same speed.
      if it was 16/8 it would be doable since you still have a binary basis to work with but this...
      17/8 means that it has 17 beats over 8th notes and after 17 beats the loop/rythm/bar starts over.
      so you have 1 beat more in a bar than 99,9% of all the other dnb tracks.
      when i try to determine where the bars start my brain cant handle it.

    This song is transcendent and the reason I began to compose. I formed my own conclusions regarding its meaning, at least to me. And reading what the boys posted as synopses I was astonished to find the word “claustrophobic “ . Of course. I searched for part 2. But it’s likely part of the internal journey spoken of. I consider this the most original and genius compositions in modern times. I supposed it to be a ode to war and its legacy on those coming home. I made a song in thus spirit called be not proud.
