  • During a recent cruise aboard my DeFever 44 Trawler, one of my Ford Lehman diesel engines would not shut down when I pressed the stop button. This could be a bad situation in the case that the engine was overheating or there was some other mechanical problem. So it is important to know how to shut the engine down manually so that you can promptly take care of the situation.

You saved my day with this! Now I need to figure out why the kill button isn’t working. Thank you.

That’s great! You likely need a new stop solenoid relay. Call up American Diesel and they will get you set straight

I drive a 30 year old Dodge truck with a Cummins 12 Valve. I use the manual fuel shut off which is basically the same thing you got here except a pull cable is connected to it and it comes out under the dash.

That is a handy feature! There are a lot of boats set up with that mechanism, but not mine! A lot of them also have a manual pull at the helm to discharge your fire extinguishing system in the mechanical space, and again my boat does not have that 😅
