At the age of 54 with 2.3 years cubing experience I just hit sub 25 seconds average. This seems to be pretty good with the average being around 33 seconds for my age group, but looking at the progress & diminishing returns stats I'm wondering if I'll make it to sub 20 by 2026 🤔. You do the math🙂. Edited: Great survey, hopefully it will reach a greater audience in the coming years 👍

0:47 One of the reasons of this (Coming from an ambidextrous cuber) Is that you use two different hands for cubing.
For example if you use your right-handed and you use righty algs, you have to use your left hand for O.H.
I am not 100% sure about this but this is one of the main reasons I have developed ambidexterity.

Hey, Tingman! After learning to solve the Rubik's cube and learning a few "foolproof" algorithms and a couple tricks, my best time is just under 90 seconds. I'll not move on to true speed cubing, BUT, I'm a fan of creating patterns on the cube. I know about checkerboard, rotated centers (is that what this is called?), and spelling "Hi," and have moved on to some more complex stuff. I've figured out how to make a rotated checkerboard pattern that transfers well to the axis cube (sometimes aka fluctuation cube). I plugged it in to an online Rubik's cube solver, and solving it to normal requires one of the solutions that is 20 steps! Wow! I made a little short of how it looks on the normal 3x3 Rubik's. ...not trying to self-promote. You don't have to check it out, but it would be a fun challenge - try to solve the cube to this "rotated checkerboard" pattern. Not sure if it has a real name! It takes me more than 5 min, because you have to think more about every piece and where it's supposed to go. Can you take a look at it and see if you'd like to make it a challenge?

Everything makes sense now. It’s really not my fault I am a slow speed solver, it’s my age. I guess starting so late in life is full of disadvantages. I guess MoYu being the most popular 3x3 makes sense with all their new releases? I wonder how many people who switched mains to the YS3M will now once again switch to the new weilong v9? This video was full of interesting tidbits and fun facts. I am looking forward to going over it in more detail later.

I can definitely see three by three Rubik's being the number one owned cube only because a lot of parents buy their kids one... Or buy themselves one because they're curious. My dad bought me my first Rubik's cube when I was a little girl and I was like four. (In the 80's) I bought my son one. Now my son and I own many cubes, and we got into speedcubing together.

I uh.... definitely am not an "official" member of the speed cubing community. I just got a regular Rubik's 3x3 for Christmas. That's still the only cube I own and I am still around 2.5 minutes for my best time. So... yeah. I wouldn't have even "fit" in any of the categories in this survey. And yet, I am fascinated by and somewhat addicted to cubing videos.

Very interesting survey result, I just ordered a tornado V3M Pioneer and the rest of the MGC big cubes. Although I find it kinda weird that the QiYi MP series is entirely absent here. Although I would qualify myself as a collector, so obviously I'd want a full set of QiYi MS, QiYi MP and YJ MGC eventually (tho I might skip the MGC 3x3? Also dunno which 2x2 to get first to replace my YJ YuPo V2M)

My problem is, I'm very late with my start to cubing. Until I have the Algorithms of the different Puzzles in my head and hands, Arthritis and/or dementia might catch me first 😬.
