Wow, you did awesome with those drawings! I am going to stick with trees and landscapes. They are so much more forgiving than human anatomy. I give you a lot of credit for giving this a try. That stuff is not easy!! You are rockin' it!
Appreciate you sharing your sketchbook side-by-side. Your persistence redrawing the challenging plates and seeing your improvements inspires me to be more diligent with my practice. Excellent work! 👏👏👏 Thank you for post!
Hi. Thank you for the kind words. As I get farther in the book, I’m getting lazier when it comes to redrawing unfortunately. I plan on doing an update video next month.
Thank you for sharing. I just got a copy of the same book and you have inspired me to get started! I really appreciate you showing your work. You should be proud of your progress.
Hi, Rick. I really appreciate you. Thank you. Although I prefer drawing landscapes, this book has done more for my art journey than any other. I hope it does the same for you!
Nice work. ,i just started doing this course and its not easy. im using tracing paper to make a copy of the drawings ,so i can compare my sketch to to it when i correct it
Hi. It is not easy. I’m struggling knowing when to move on & to not keep repeating a plate until it’s “perfect”…whatever that is. Tracing for comparison is a good idea that I may try. Thanks for sharing!
@@drawinsscribblins5326 ive heard its an observational course more than a drawing course so i try to get it as acurate as i can then correct it with the tracing paper just so i can get an idea of where i misjudged it. im hoping this helps train my eye to be more accurate .ive also heard you should try and get the drawing as accurate as you can by correcting before moving on
I've been learning to draw. I couldn't even draw a stick figures. Now I can do basic figures and gesture. But I'm starting to learn anatomy right now. Do you think like drawing the specific parts in this book will help you remember anatomy? That's the overwhelming part of learning to draw. There's like so many things you have to remember. Eventually it becomes muscle memory I guess.
Hi, William. I love this book. It has helped my confidence so much. Because there are so many plates, I think it would definitely help to learn anatomy. But if you want to learn skull drawings and internal anatomy, I would recommend finding a separate book that focuses on that and use it with the Bargue book. Keep up the good work and feel free to email me if you need any help/advice.
@@drawinsscribblins5326 thanks, I might check this book out. I'm already taking an anatomy course and learning how to do the skull anatomy just seems really overwhelming. It's hard to remember everything that's important
Nice work. I’ve been doing a few of these and one thing I notice is that you are shrinking the plates down. The original plates are about 1.x in each dimension of the book printed pages. So if you shrink it down the detail will be really hard to achieve (at least in charcoal).
Hi. Thank you for the info. My proportions are all over the place. I bought one of those proportion/divider rulers to be more accurate. Thank you for watching and commenting!!
@@drawinsscribblins5326 Firstly, I had a typo. The original plates are 1.5x the book size (ie larger). My experience so far (for waht it’s worth)…From a proportions standpoint I’d recommend reading the chapter on sight size in the Bargue book but also watch “The Davinci Institute” videos online on youtube for free. She explains triangulation and proportions very well and this will likely help you as it doing for me. I have a pair of dividers and TBH they are limited use since I now use straight lines from my arm. Try doing a bigger copy as an experiment and see how that changes your accuracy. The key is arm vs wrist movment in my experience so far. Your wrist turns an arc which throws out accurate straight lines. Keep up the good work!
What is the point of doing these sketches? Was it really helped you to learn real anatomy and drawing from real life or photos? I got recommendation to buy this book, but I am sceptical how this technique can teach - how to see. Thx for reply
Hi. Good question. These plates are designed to prepare you for real-life anatomy drawings. I'm still early in the book but I can definitely see improvement. Can I draw a real-life model? I don't think so yet but I feel this book will prepare me. I highly recommend it as it starts out easy and gets harder and harder.

Thanks, Marisa. I’m trying to improve and spread my wings 😁
I’m doing the plates too… loving it!

Hi, Bozo. Thanks for the encouragement. It’s a long book no doubt but I’m learning so much.
