That Liverpool with Gerrard, Torres, Xabi Alonso, Mascherano etc was a joy to watch. Gerrard and Alonso could score long shot goals from anywhere.
Not only that, but Alonso and Gerrard complimented each other so well. Alonso, more defensive minded, but Gerrard called him "one of the best passers in the world". Alonso allowed Gerrard to roam forward and be more offensive minded. Both could pass the long ball with ease and accuracy. Mascherano, for a little guy, was an absolute beast (similar to Fabio Cannavaro in play disruption & distribution)! When all 3 were in the midfield, and healthy, Liverpool was very very tough to beat.
The thing that was special about Steven Gerrard is because of his world class ability was that he could have joined a bigger club, pretty much any club in the world would have had him in midfield, he could have had more success in his career and earned more money but he chose to be loyal and play for this boyhood club Liverpool. This kind of pride and dedication to the clubs is gone today.

Archetype British midfielder. Basically a soldier that decided to be a footballer. Power, Grace, technical ability and so, so much aggression. He has all the best attributes of an English footballer. And eff me, what a strike. One of the cleanest techniques of striking a ball I have seen. A player who led by example too. As an Arsenal fan I would brick it any time we'd have to face him. Same with Scholesy for ManU. Game changing players.

@@MissEllaa100 don't talk about the England team it was their golden generation and they had their egos and personal grudges because of club rivalries, by your logic, Scholes and Lampard are overrated cause they didn't do shit in the England team. Gerrard in his prime was a bulldozer and quite literally single-handedly helped them defeat teams like Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal at the time. He had the crossing of KDB( not as consistent but definitely similar styles) or beckham coupled with the physicality and tenacity of a prime Patrick Viera or Yaya Toure. Besides this he was a brilliant set piece taker and had a shot as devastating and powerful as a man Utd Ronaldo. He is definitely the most complete midfielder of his era and if he is complete, he is sure to be one of the best of all time as well, definitely top 10 and that's if I am degrading him. If a player is complete, he is one of the best players at that position there's no two ways about it. Your logic makes no sense

Eversince he left, LFC midfield has been lacking in creativity, hopefully Thiago could at least fill in that role.. Stevie is so far the BEST OF ALL TIMES. Not because he was in our times, since I'm quite old (50) and I watched live King-Kenny & Rush & all the greatest legends of the past. Nope, they were not the best - STEVIE is. Why? Because:
- Stevie is a local lad, a local HERO, he bled for his town, his mates, his citizens. HE WAS THE WAR BANNER-BEARER of the club, period.
- Stevie was from very young the rightful CAPTAIN of the club; not of the team, of the ENTIRE LFC Club! For us, the "Reds", Stevie was/is our GOD, not just our skipper.
- Stevie wasn't "just" a remarkable middle-fielder. King-Kenny was a great middle-fielder. Stevie was A FOOTBALLING PHENOMENON! Not my words, ZINEDIN ZIDAN & THIERRY HENRY's words!!!! He could play in EVERY POSITION (and he did, during his carrier) - except... playing goalie!
- Stevie's PERSONAL efforts (goals, assists, penalty wins, etc) were vital for several remarkable CLUB's MOMENTS & TROPHIES' WINS!
- Stevie still is and always be A TRUE "RED-MAN" and he thinks & cares for the Club 24/7. His ambition is to be the manager/coach of LFC one day - and FULLY COMPLETE HIS PATH in this club's History.
...Personally, I never was PASSIONATE with a player. I was always a Liverpool FC supporter, I liked many players, but I never was FULLY PASSIONATE with a single player.
