My friend loves the Legion and France for what the Legion did for him. He had ruined every opportunity he had and made so many dumb mistakes. His reputation was ruined and he thought about just ending his life. He saw a movie about the Legion and bought a ticket to France and proudly served 8 years alongside brothers from all over the world.

We had the FFL come to play with us in the 101st Airborne at Campbell in the early 60s. Good folks. They flew in from the jungle school in Guiana as I recall. The legion welcomed American services into its combat camp in the jungle but it did not last long, the living conditions were considered too austere and the training unnecessarily too harsh.
It’s crazy how much info is out there about the Legion, when I joined in 91 I knew nothing except to walk into a French Police station and request to join the FFL. I didn’t even know how much I was getting paid until after training as you’re forbidden from opening your own bank account until you’ve served 5 yrs. When I joined the only criminal offence that disqualified you was an active warrant for murder, I was told if they’re not looking for you yet then you’re all good. Part of training that those joining now will never have is spending a day at one of the Legions Vineyards, I met a former SS solider that was smuggled out of Germany by the Vatican (using the same rat lines they used to smuggle resistance fighters) to Algeria, he talked about his time in Vietnam and how the Legion still fulfils their promise to protect him by letting him live and work in their vineyards.

@crimsonhawk4912 fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groupement_des_commandos_parachutistes. Here is a link of the Wikipedia page of the gcp so you understand better what the commando groups are and how they are selected , also it's important to know that any commando group it's not specific to one or two regiments , for example the gcp is not only for the legion ,rather it is the special forces unit of the paratroopers of the French army , to join the gcp you have to be a paratrooper in the army or the legion .
@CCC-nf3bk each paratrooper regiment of the army has 3 or 2 teams of gcp , which would be around 30 operators , keep in mine the entire gcp has only around 250 men , and the paratroopers regiments of the French army are around 7 or 8 regiments , each of them has 3 or 2 teams of gcp

One of them came back to the US and reentered the Marines and his time in the FFL counted toward his time in service due to the close relationship the US and FFL have traditionally maintained.
I don’t think so. I too tried to enter the US military after serving in the Legion for 10 years. I was told my service was not going to be recognized, maybe a long time ago? But this was 2014 when I tried

Only light criminal background is allowed to join the Legion. They have all the organization and experience to check anybody's past. They don't want to enlist crazy people or criminals, drug dealers, etc... At the slightest doubt joining is denied. No way to mess with the Legion.... About starvation during training : the whole French army want soldiers be "skinny cats" with a lot of rusticity. Thus the initial training is used for reaching this. In operation or normal training all the french soldiers eat the same kind of food, supervised by dieteticians. The "combat rations", canned food, are prepared by the best french civilian chefs, contracted by the army's ministry .

The lead actor in a movie the mercenary that came out in 2020 was a former member of the French foreign legion brutal action he was also the guy that coordinated the battle scenes in gangs of New York
I remember taking over from the Legion in 2001 in Eritrea.. We were in their camp, we were all on a local access pass, the Legion lads were on parade, getting inspected when one guy in the ranks was headbutted by the Sgt, the guy just bounced back up to attention, blood oozing out of his nose.. And yet the Legion thought us lads were nuts.. 😅😅
Yeah there's nothing more... the only thing I can see barely similar to another Special operations is Anglico. They are cool but they are not even close to recon or marsoc.
Don't forget to mention that if maybe the legion doesn't ask much about your past, it's because french intelligence services will do the job to review your entire past, including your ascendants lifes
Just a reminder: the legionnaire who was caught sporting a skull mask was eventually sanctioned for the fact. FFL are not videogame characters nor wanton mercenaries, but soldiers respectful of the RoE and upholding a moral standard. They are the spearhead and the pride of France.
You should interview Dominique Vandenberg he is a former 2 Rep sniper and now working in Hollywood interesting individual he created all the battles in the movie gangs of New York and starred in the mercenary a small indie movie that came out in 2020 it was awesome
My father was a legionnaire, his reasons for joining were never shared with me, not that he stuck around to tell me much. The wine and cheese farm thing is kinda true actually, but only for retired legionnaires, they have a vineyard in the south east of france for said retired soldiers to have a place after service. And they don't eat much at all indeed, my father used to eat one meal a day on average, any more and he'd feel stuffed.
The french army norm for soldiers is "skinny cats", in order to be resistant and fast. Around 2500 calories per day. No more but no less. Fit to combat.
I remember being at the farm, we were so hungry at one point we stole the food put out for the farm dogs lol (it was human food that was left over from the Sargent’s meals)
❤ proud to know a few guys that stand for friends like family and not afraid for the devil himself deserters and heavy criminals are from long gone day's since the mid 90,s
According to the autobiography of General Swatcoff the French was sent protecting the left flank of the coalition forces to get them out of the way because they refused to join the command structure of the coalition.
I'am french, and a friend's big brother was in the army, he told us once his units was hosting soldiers from the foreign legion for a week, they had two simple orders to follow while the foreign legion was around, if you are a man, you don't watch them in the eyes, if you are a woman, you can't go out of your barracks alone.
Pretty good documentary over all... Just one thing though. I don't know where you got the idea that they have less equipment and supply than the rest of the French Army. Today's French military is 100% professional and most of the brigades are elite troops, the marines, alpine, airborne and foreign legion they have the best equipment of the army.
The LE isn’t full of hardcore prisoners. They are loyal to each other and the Legion. Until they desert. You all should check out some other videos about them.
Yes from the french army and from other armys. There is the story of an ancient seal member joining the legion after a criminal record. Instructors will say that here they had ex-officer of soviete army, ex special force members, civilian, ex criminal, People who escaped there country and war, ex mercenarys and more but here you are only légionnaire
I’ve heard many different stories one I heard was they deleted all of his social medias and he got a new name new haircut even learned to speak French then ten years later came back home and his brother didn’t recognize him

Now will we see a the Spanish Legion? Will only make sense after this. Basically Spain copy the FFL from France and did the same thing roughly speaking.
Just a quick adjustment, they actually accept women if they can do the same things as a man: so compared to others militaries where they pull down the standards for women the FFL doesn’t.
As of today, 30% of the Legionnaires are French; after they are accepted / enrolled, Frenchmen receive a new citizenship either Belgian, Swiss, or Canadian. After 3 years of good service, they get their French citizenship back.

So glad ur doing this justice. I was gonna sneak a suggestion for this in the comments but figured not
I remember taking over from the Legion in 2001 in Eritrea..
We were in their camp, we were all on a local access pass, the Legion lads were on parade, getting inspected when one guy in the ranks was headbutted by the Sgt, the guy just bounced back up to attention, blood oozing out of his nose..
And yet the Legion thought us lads were nuts.. 😅😅
You need to do a video on all the marine special operations not just force recon and recon and raiders
Lol they are the only two 😂
Yeah there's nothing more... the only thing I can see barely similar to another Special operations is Anglico. They are cool but they are not even close to recon or marsoc.
Don't forget to mention that if maybe the legion doesn't ask much about your past, it's because french intelligence services will do the job to review your entire past, including your ascendants lifes
I heard of these guys and thought it's pretty cool.
These are the people bad guys definitely don't want to come knocking.
I’m thinking about joining
Good stuff.
Just a reminder: the legionnaire who was caught sporting a skull mask was eventually sanctioned for the fact. FFL are not videogame characters nor wanton mercenaries, but soldiers respectful of the RoE and upholding a moral standard. They are the spearhead and the pride of France.
Legio Patria Nostra. The legion is my country. .. Honour and Fidelity.
8:27 serve France is literally in the first article of the legionnaire's code
You should interview Dominique Vandenberg he is a former 2 Rep sniper and now working in Hollywood interesting individual he created all the battles in the movie gangs of New York and starred in the mercenary a small indie movie that came out in 2020 it was awesome
I'm joining the legion. Waiting on them to screen my interview.
How’s it going?
10:05 ah yes "Marche Ou Creve." A long standing tradition
Could you do spetsnaz next?
My father was a legionnaire, his reasons for joining were never shared with me, not that he stuck around to tell me much.
The wine and cheese farm thing is kinda true actually, but only for retired legionnaires, they have a vineyard in the south east of france for said retired soldiers to have a place after service.
And they don't eat much at all indeed, my father used to eat one meal a day on average, any more and he'd feel stuffed.
The french army norm for soldiers is "skinny cats", in order to be resistant and fast. Around 2500 calories per day. No more but no less. Fit to combat.
No idea how I've never really heard of The French Legion, even though I have family in Navy SOCOM. No I'm about to go down a rabbit hole
Some of the hardest dudes in the services... 👍
Did someone on your staff try the Legion? Because nobody call them the Gestapo outside those who have gone there.
You should make a video on the various U.S State defence forces like the Indiana Guard reserve or NY Naval Militia.
Us légionnaires says the FFL is like the US Marines in the 80's. Elite infantery with a strong discipline.
I remember being at the farm, we were so hungry at one point we stole the food put out for the farm dogs lol (it was human food that was left over from the Sargent’s meals)
I’m serving in 2rep. I can say a lot of this is true and but a lot isn’t.
Which bits?
❤ proud to know a few guys that stand for friends like family and not afraid for the devil himself deserters and heavy criminals are from long gone day's since the mid 90,s
According to the autobiography of General Swatcoff the French was sent protecting the left flank of the coalition forces to get them out of the way because they refused to join the command structure of the coalition.
France's doctrine in combat : never under the command of antbody.
LEGIO PATRIA NOSTRA .
I wish I knew this was a thing a couple years back!! Unfortunately I’m beyond their cutoff point now tho.. 😕
Btw The legion accepts small crimes but not often is it merciful with big crimes
Allegedly anyway. Never served or met a legionnaire so who knows.
Interesting. Lots of good info, although, last I heard of the Legion, physical punishment was de rigeur. Everything changes, I guess.
I draw the line at learning French again.
i hella want to join like yesterday
The LE isn’t full of hardcore prisoners. They are loyal to each other and the Legion. Until they desert.
You all should check out some other videos about them.
All shady people with checkered pasts that`s sure.
Can you be retire from a military and join the Legion?
Yes from the french army and from other armys. There is the story of an ancient seal member joining the legion after a criminal record. Instructors will say that here they had ex-officer of soviete army, ex special force members, civilian, ex criminal, People who escaped there country and war, ex mercenarys and more but here you are only légionnaire
14:42 and that lady was Britain
I’ve heard many different stories one I heard was they deleted all of his social medias and he got a new name new haircut even learned to speak French then ten years later came back home and his brother didn’t recognize him
To anyone looking for a ffl guy, tcav is your guy
He was a former navy seal and former ffl
Sorry nope not worth talking to 😂. He spouts alota BS
@@walex5462what bs?
He’s a good guy with a massive ego. I’ve personally spoken to him. But I have respect for him regardless
The French Foreign Legion checks criminal records and NEVER accepts criminals! Please..
Im 22 now sadly i can't join the Indian army 😢 make me fell like i should try for FFL..
Dominiquie Vandenberg records still stand today 30 years later proper legend in the legion now Hollywood actor
I’m waiting for a Video on the Mexican National Guard, Marina(Mexican Marines) and how elements of the Mexican military are compared to US military elements
Can you make a video about the 173rd airborne?
Somebody been watching TCAV TV.
Finally, a General Discharge Video featuring the French Army's Foreign Legion, that even Taylor Cavanaugh, a US Navy SEAL 🦭 🐸 Man- turned-Foreign Legionnaire , Himself , would both appreciate and approve of. LEGIO PATRIA NOSTRA SUPERINTENSIFIED 🇫🇷🇫🇷🪖🎖️💣💥🔥🪂🤿🛡️🗡️⚔️🇫🇷🇫🇷‼️
Taylor is a deserter from the FFL….a coward……we don’t want him.
@@mikewinston8709 Where's the I²( Information and Intelligence) coming from? YOU?! And what in the fuck is that " We don't want Him", 🐂💩? Parle Vous, Francaise, Mike Wingert Fife Fife Too Wun? YOU Prior Service Military Forces or National Security, eh?!
@@mikewinston8709 funny how everyone eats this dudes ass like it’s made of gold. I know people who served with him and he’s a piece of shit. He wouldn’t have made it 5 minutes in the Old Legion
@@mikewinston8709and what have you done with your life?
@@Dirkdiggl I’ve never, unlike this man, deserted from the FFL (only cowards desert) or dealt drugs. TCAV has an arrest warrant issued for him in France. These are hard facts.
Know a man who was in born in europe went to france joined the legion, came to us joined usmc then did 20 yrs as a cop and swat operator man is humble as they come
CIA GRS should be a video
Now will we see a the Spanish Legion? Will only make sense after this. Basically Spain copy the FFL from France and did the same thing roughly speaking.
Are you considered a veteren if you join the french foreign legion
Obviously not including Merica, today’s society definitely rewards professionalism over patriotism.
Got any information on joining US army M1 Armor Crewmen???
Can you do a video on the Postal Service law-enforcement agency?
They run 10k everyday? Jesus.
How bad a$$ are the FFL? There was a video where someone left the U.S. Marines because he thought it was boring and went to the FFL.
I wonder how they access recruits search history
Legio patria nostra VIVE LA FRANCE 🇨🇵🫡
