    Can we please put to bed that sewage water was leaking. It was dirty rain water. I don't disagree that Northwest/Fed Ex stadium is one of or the worst NFL stadium. But running sewage lines above fans makes no sense and would actually cost more since bathrooms are inside, not where fans sit.

    I grew up in Landover, I use to ride my dirt bikes on Farmer's Joe field as a kid. Farmer Joe and his family initially owned all that land that stadium sits on today. When they were building the stadium we would go up there and wonder around for hours as kids, it was crazy to see miles and miles of farmland get transformed into a stadium like that. It's honestly sad to see the stadiums decline today from what it use to be when it first opened as Jack Kent Cooke's stadium.

      All team owners learned that from the Twins and Vikings. Metropolitan Stadium (although not bad for watching baseball) was a cheap Erector Set thing that was built in bits and pieces, then stopped (never "finished") in 1964. The Twins and Vikings never bothered to maintain it. By the late 1970s, The Met was a filthy, rusty, broken-down dump. The Twins and Vikings used that as an excuse to demand a new dome...which, in some ways was actually worse. That neglect tactic has trended ever since.

    • @oscarwinner2034
      @oscarwinner2034 16 дней назад +1

      @@davidlafleche1142 The Twins nor the Vikings never owned Met Stadium. They were tenants. So they wouldn't have to do any maintenance on it. The thing with these new stadiums is that the teams actually now own them. When they were leasing the older stadiums from the City or whoever; all the other events were scheduled and ran by the City. But now that the team owns the stadium, they can make all the money from the non sport events and all. That is the real reason why they all wanted new places for themselves.

    • @davidlafleche1142

  • @robertl.andersonii5926
    @robertl.andersonii5926 25 дней назад +7

    The stadium isn't awful. It's just not nice or special. 25 years of terrible football, a dastardly owner, and those viral videos gave it a worse perception than it might warrant. Reality is, it's just a character-less bowl that was built as large as possible (92000 seats before the reduction) to make the Cooke family as much money as possible.
    As I said, if this team was winning 11-12 games a year for the last 2 decades and had a SB win also, this would be looked at like Arrowhead: an uninteresting stadium far from the city center where a lot of winning happened.

    • @davidlafleche1142
      @davidlafleche1142 22 дня назад +1

      A football stadium doesn't need to be "interesting." Baseball is the only sport in which architecture actually has a role in the game: the Green Monster (Fenway Park), Death Valley (Yankee Stadium), house rooftop seats (Wrigley Field), etc.

    I haven't been to Northwest/FedEx Field in over a decade, but I remember it being very blah. I do remember seeing signs of poor maintenance even back in the 2010s, though. The main problem for me was its size--too big. Seeing games in the 400 section was like watching them from a helicopter hovering a long ways from the field!

    Great video and very fair portrayal! I’ve been a Washington fan my whole life and actually got the chance to intern for the team’s marketing department last season, right around the ownership change. Our office was one of the suites on the 3rd floor, and I got to freely walk around the whole stadium so I’ve seen a ton of whats underneath.
    Overall, yes, it’s not a great stadium, definitely bottom 5 in the NFL, and we need a new one. And some seats in the back of the ‘cave’ shouldn’t be sold IMO. However I really don’t think it’s *as* bad as people have made it out to be, and as the dude at the end said, a lot of that just has to do with how bad the team has been. While Harris has made some great improvements this year, I’d say the lack of complaints this year vs years prior has way more to do with how much better the team is

We had cheap seats and the upper deck blocks our view, so they have TV's hanging for us to view, but our TV in our section wasn't working. You had to duck to see the scoreboard. Probably wasn’t sewage. Was likely a fire suppression sprinkler pipe. There was no reason for a sewage pipe to be there. Sprinkler pipe water smells very sewage like due to rust and the lubricating oil used by the installers. I used to install these systems and worked with people who worked at the stadium installing these. This water is even brown due to rust. Imo this is more scary as a fire mixed with a decrepit fire suppression system is a deadly mix. The fact that an alarm didn’t go off when this happened is even more scary as the alarm is connected to the water pressure in the system. Just my thoughts on that broken pipe.

    DC needs a stadium with a retractable roof - so it can finally host a Final Four or Super Bowl.

    Ya it’s gross. I live about 45 min away and have been to many games, it’s worse every year, it’s time to do something now that we’ve changed everything else. It doesn’t seem very different from its past after 75 mil being put into it though.

    Lifelong Washington fan checking in, haven’t been back to Fed-Ex/Northwest since the football team name change.
    It’s definitely the worst stadium in the league, I hope Josh Harris can fix that. Having a competitive team will only help our chances.

    The stadium name has been changed to Northwest Stadium; let the Commanders stay in Prince George’s County because the stadium needs to be renovated.

      "Imagine Baltimore and Washington used the same stadium like Chargers and Rams"
      C'mon, it'll never happen, that's like East Rutherford, New Jersey and Philadelphia, separated by just 85 miles, all using the same stadium (Eagles, Jets, Giants), there's just no purpose or point in it at all (lol).

    • @oscarwinner2034
      @oscarwinner2034 16 дней назад

      The Commanders own their current place. The only way they come back to the RFK site is if the DC gives the land to them.

    • @zaribhassan1085
      @zaribhassan1085 16 дней назад

      @ The current place is temporary. The whole reason why they transferred the land was because DC is trying to allow the commanders to build their stadium where RFK stadium is currently at.

    It always amazes me when people including radio host say that FedEx field is nowhere near DC. Nothing inside of the beltway is far front DC at all. From FedEx it takes just over 10 minutes on central ave to get to the DC line. With stop lights! At the end of the day when they win people will stop caring about the stadium.

    • @robertl.andersonii5926
      @robertl.andersonii5926 25 дней назад

      Exactly. The PG/DC line is maybe 10-15 mins tops from the stadium.

    • @gregpaspatis9425
      @gregpaspatis9425 23 дня назад

      The reverse scenario as far as distance goes, in Virginia, the Stadium would be right about where the Fairview Park Marriott hotel in Falls Church, Va. is located, close to the beltway exits at U.S. Route 50 on Arlington Boulevard, less than 16 miles from, say, the Ellipse, White House and Washington Monument.

    The biggest question you should have asked is have you been to other stadiums and are you from here … RFK is probably the most horrible location for a stadium especially if your biggest concern is traffic … ticket prices/ beer prices/ concessions would be thru the roof because of Washington DC economy … tailgating wouldn’t be a thing anymore … FedEx is a beautiful stadium that was neglected for years by Dan Snyder we have new ownership and they are making improvements trust the process and always keep the stadium in landover don’t allow a blue collar sport to turn for white color politicians … the people that complain about it being in landover have no idea that most stadiums aren’t in the city they play for

    ~~ it was originally named "Jack Kent Cooke Stadium" in the mid-90s when built - after the team's late owner throughout their glory years of the 80's and early 90's - he even got the state of Maryland to invent a new town name for the site .. "Ral-jon" - after his sons Ralph & John - and yet he did not will the team to his son John as expected - instead ordering the team to be sold via a trust to the highest bidder - his son's bid did not win - and the Daniel Snyder era came to be - which effectively ruined the franchise for 25 years ..

    • @gregpaspatis9425
      @gregpaspatis9425 23 дня назад

      "..........which effectively ruined the franchise for 25 years....." Well, he (Daniel Snyder) did at least get wild card round playoff wins in two out of his first seven years as the team owner, then they went on to not be in the conference playoffs in fourteen of the next 19 seasons.
