  • Kalanchoe thyrsiflora - Commonly known as flapjack or paddle plant, this is a gorgeous succulent hailing from South Africa. The leaves of Kalanchoe thyrsiflora are gray-green, chunky, and have a unique powdery coating.
They thrive in very bright indirect light, but I have found that they grow better in direct sunlight. As a succulent, you only water it when its bone dry, but I have found that they are quite forgiving with overwatering. Don’t forget to fertilize occassionally, and do treat it for pests as you would other plants.
I have neglected this plant for 4 years, you can see that it looks sad and leggy. let’s fix that with propagation!
I chopped the plant in half, took off the lower leaves, and stuck the top cutting into fresh potting mix. I made added nutrients to help it get going.
Few weeks later, small buds appear from the mother plant!

I absolutely love this plant. Mine unfortunately died when I had trips infestation, but I'm looking forward to getting it again.

As long as you can supplement it with artificial light during winter. Humidity dont seem to affect it much.

I have several, I thought they'd do better under direct sunglight but omg, my poor babies were almost lost. Idk why?
Indirect light have brought them back to their original beautiful self, they look healthy and fine, so I better let them there 😅

Mine is doing well in nearly full sun… but perhaps they have to be acclimatized slowly to it 😅
