Yes, I know. But they would have remained "silly toys" if not for Hama. He's the one who came up with the filecards and code names for all of the characters. And the G.I. JOE storyline was lifted entirely from his Fury Force concept. G.I. JOE would still have existed, but I doubt it would have been as popular without Hama. He brought military authenticity to the comics and the characters, having served in Vietnam himself. Larry Hama was the Tom Clancy of comic books.
