Really helpful demonstration Steve. Thanks so much. When I fly I take out stuff from my pack in a day pack to keep with me in the plane, I also wear my jacket for the pockets, so my 65L won't ever be fully stuffed when going in the hold. I think I will go with the small.
Thank you Steve. Perfectly presented and made an impossible size decision easy as I had to order online without trying. I appreciate your time and effort to make this video.
Great vid. I have a 60L but since I pop off the lid/brain and use that daypack as my carry-on I now feel comfortable knowing it will fit in a small when it's checked in even if it's stuffed.
Super useful video Steve!! We are doing a through hike in Iceland next spring and I knew I'd be needing something to cover my backpack during air transport. I'll be bringing a 65L pack for a 6 day hike then picking up a camper van back in Reykjavik to see the Western Fjords for another 10 days or so. Based on the visuals you provided I think the medium airporter will be just about perfect. It'll give me enough room to cover the pack and still toss in a few items I'll want in the camper van but not on the backpacking trip. We'll just leave the Airporter and extra items in the storage lockers at the bus terminal then retrieve them after the hike.
Thank you! I will get the small for my farpoint. Not completely sure if I’ll get the farpoint on a plane as a carry-on. Not the size but the weight might be an issue. Your review helped me to decide
Great demo Steve! For the Kestrel 68L I guess I will need both: one when the backpack is at full load and the small one when it's not. Damn there can't be one thing for everything lol. Cheers!
@@Steve-Owens nice one steve. Hope to meet you and michelle in the future. Do the hadrians wall walk. Never done it but well recomended. Be like a walk in the park for yous. Wish you and michelle all the best.
My wife and I like to walk the camino. I take a 50L and my wife takes a 36L. To fly, we pack BOTH into ONE small Osprey Airporter, back to back, with 2 walking poles between them. Total weight 13kg.
@@Steve-Owens: Yes your pack is what we call internal frane or the frame is part of the pack. I use an external frame or one that is separate from the pack. Neither one is better than the other but is a personal choice, except in the military and you get what they issue.
Really great information. Given thst the cover is quite soft, does the perforated fabric and mechanisms around it damaged from being rough handled during loading andoff loading from the plane?
Very interesting that mate. Last time I went on a plane was my first and only time when I was 16 and we went to Spain. I went to the Isle of Wight when I was a teenager too, other than that I’ve never stepped foot off these shores ! My Dad has been to Australia a few times. He took my brother one time, and my sister then next time, I reckon he still owes me lol. Good luck on your travels mate. Big hugs to you both.
Isn't it odd how you stumble across a comment that I'm sure I never read Damon.. how odd RUclips is sometimes. You're definitely owed a trip to Oz buddy and we could explore together the outback.. 👍 rescue a few koalas perhaps.. 🐨❤️ Off to watch your video with the boys. Or will do when I wake up.. xo
Have you any videos on the new air cover? I can’t even find a picture of how it secures closed. It’s supposed to be an airports and a rain cover together so I’m really interested!
The problem with the nice cool looking osprey bag is that it screams steal me. Something anonymous that doesn’t attract attention from would be thrives I think would be better.
I bet you could take some clothes or other things out of that Atmos 65 and stuff them down the sides of the pack and get that zipper closed more easily on the small.
Great vid, thanks for the full demo. Both would be better to have more straps on top for the loaders to grab though? And lightweight? (Gotta carry it after all!)
Thanks.. They do have really good/strong carrying handles. One of the problems with adding many handles, is, it's not just the heavy handle materiel but also the additional reinforcement materials needed to keep them strong and secure. it would greatly add to the weight and perhaps cost and when you are travelling a lot, weight is that last thing you want to increase.. Also, the whole idea is to remove all the straps from the backpack, these are the things that get caught on Conveyer Belts and tear the bags open.. Hope that helps..
Great video. I have the Osprey Farpoint 65 wheeled version. Since the back straps can be hidden away in the bags own compartment do you think this bag is required when checking in?
I have the same bag as you!! Since the straps can be tucked away I wouldn’t say that you NEED the airporter but if you do want to protect your bag form wart and tear etc I would recommend getting one that’s what I am mainly using it for 👍🏼
@@LornaAndFiona if you fly often, it's really disappointing when you arrive and find your very costly bag all scuffed and scrapped, even if the straps are stowed. I find my airporter really protects the bag, if it gets scraped, it's my fault 😂 not some, doesn't give a damn baggage handler.
I think they are shower proof but they are not meant as rain covers and don't work well as such. They are for taking the knocks when traveling on a plane, which I have just finished a flight 1 hour ago.. coincidentally.. and they worked great
Even though this video is 3yrs old, it answered every question I had. Great review!
That's what I'd hoped.. 😉

Great video, Steve. Answers the questions I had, perfectly. You're right, there isn't much info out there on these.
Glad to have helped Paul.

Thanks for saying, I had the same quandary, so I made this, glad to hear it helps..
Excellent job with showing the differences. Helped me to make a decision. Thanks!

Interesting demo. Would like to see the same demo with a hard frame backpack.
These backpacks have a lightweight metal frame. Thanks

Helpful video, thanks! It would be useful to know the dimensions of your larger 65L pack (when packed) for comparison.
Really great information. Given thst the cover is quite soft, does the perforated fabric and mechanisms around it damaged from being rough handled during loading andoff loading from the plane?
Not from my experience, the cover is very tough.

I”m looking for a flightbag for my TNF Duffel (M) do you think the Airporter would be a good fit?
Awsome video! Would you say the small will fit a 70l pack (mountain hardwear ozonic 70) with the top pocket removed?
The problem with the nice cool looking osprey bag is that it screams steal me. Something anonymous that doesn’t attract attention from would be thrives I think would be better.

Unfortunately even though its lockable it doesnt seem like you could walk around foreign streets without feeling like it could be snatched easily
It's not meant for walking around streets, in fact for that use, it would be impractical..
@@Steve-Owens Yeah I figured that was the case. Was hoping it would be some kind of hybrid

I'm just wondering Steve, how do these covers hold up in rain?

This is adequate for some showers if the pack is loaded in the rain!
