Subaru is the Audi of Japanese auto modifications & maintenance. I respect them, and they are awesome machines, but I don’t wanna own one without a lift in my garage.
Some of them are easy to work on. My daily driver 79 Subaru DL is the easiest car to work on I have ever owned. I can have the engine and transmission out and back in in an hour. Same with a clutch replacement. I can lift my engine by hand if needed, it only weighs 126 pounds. I can carry my transmission across the yard without difficulty. And that generation engine has many more head studs than the later ones. And they are studs, not bolts, from the factory. No overhead cams, just one in the center and it's gear driven off the crank! Literally the most reliable car I've ever owned. And gets 40-50 mpg on the highway.
Bro my 2011 legacy 3.6r had me buy my wife a 17 outback 2.5i. And now i want a 2024 impreza rs, and if they ever come out with the baja again im gonna be in line for that too.
I always somehow end up buying a subaru wrx/sti's And watching Mr.Subaru has definitely helped me with learning What not to do with mine. And IVE NEVER BLOWN ONE UP. My STI has an exhaust and I'm going to upgrade cooling this year.

As a mechanic for over 20yrs I follow both these guys channels, Mr. Subaru is a goon in his game, I'm also a proud original owner of an early model 2002 Acura RSX Type S with full bolt-ons from day 1, with 457,000mi on the original motor, water pump, oil pump..etc, everything still stock including the starter, wheel bearings, Axles, I ordered a Spoon Sports race header for it and waited 4 months to get it from Canada since no distributor was available across the US, aside from the Spoon DC5 Type R throttle body I also ran an injen short ram, Tanabe Sustec Concept G exhaust, numerous clutches and 1 Trans rebuild mostly broken, exedy flywheel, still runs like a champ on a stock ecu, now I pulled the motor and Trans out for an awd swap
I have a 2002 wrx it’s completely stock besides a Cobb turbo back exhaust and I don’t think it’s tuned. So do I have to worry about my car killing its self?

Blaze yellow was correct for 02 USDM WRX, there a similar colour called cashmere yellow but that was available in almost every other market aside from North America.

My first car was a Subaru it was a 1985 wagon GL10 didn't even have 4wd but it was a 5 speed manual. It leaked oil bad like 1qt every 100 miles haven't owned one since. That was back in 1999 and sold the car after it completely died when I got home from Iraq in 2005. Nothing would work on it. 195k when it died I sent to the junk yard for nothing didn't get no money out of it and didn't care. The car was loaded though power sunroof which didn't leak ever! Cruise control power locks power windows and digital everything on the cluster. It was ahead of its time in ways I can still smell the Interior to this day.
It’s not just an intake or exhaust blowing engines, it’s people throwing on boost controllers with no supporting mods, blowing it up, then taking the boost controller off and running to the dealer saying “I dunno what happened 🤷🏻♂️ “
Can someone explain to me the advantage of using 5w-40 over 5w-30? I’ve used 5w-30 every 3k miles with oem filter but drunkkman tuning recommends using 5w-40. Also can I just straight up switch to 5w-40 on my next oil change?
02 didn't come with a turbo but 02 wrx impreza will last. i had a friend who owned one for 7 years since she was 15 and it's been sound fine until recently which is when she sold it. with the right owner these cars are amazing. i've seen a gc8 still running from one owner since he bought it at the dealership when it came out 20 years ago and takes it to a track.

You're not getting 200k out of a turbocharged vehicle, maybe the new twin turbo Toyota motor, but don't count on it. Its physics... If you put 30psi into the intake it might not last 1k. An NA Subaru, if its not a 2.5, could last 400k. If you want a race car you have to prepare for race-car maintenance/rebuild intervals.

No, Subaru guys will defend good engines till eternity. Despite the head gasket debacle, the EJ25 is a solid engine that will run for years with great care and maintenance. You abuse and neglect it, engine will become toast. Take good care of your engine.

Mr Subaru is a nice guy but he is definitely sugarcoating well known Subaru issues. There’s literally no excuse for even stock engines blowing up, head gaskets issues, oil starvation issues like in the BRZ, and all kinds of other problems that manifest more frequently than just about any other serious manufacturer. Oh… and don’t even get me started on the rust issues. So basically it seems like if you want to drive your Subaru on the long term you need lots of preventative maintenance, drive it lightly and don’t let it see any wintertime- which paradoxically is what Subarus are marketed for: their notorious symmetrical 4WD system. The golden age Subaru cars are hard to find - anything between probably 1997-2009 was a pretty good package when new but at the current time it’s just too old and prone to breakdowns. As for the newer ones-they’re just bland products with cheap plastics and no driver engagement.
Changing the intake on any MAF car should absolutely be tuned to prevent fueling issues. Most of the time aftermarket intakes don’t actually bring in colder air than a factory setup The most important feature of an aftermarket intake in the extra noise. My IATs are higher with an intake on my Baja Turbo, but it makes the good whooshing noises
Subaru be way too finicky - MrSubaru claims that putting an intake could blow up your engine YET the OEM ECU's from subaru have the advance multiplier value that can add/reduce fuel and timing yet they blow up. fun cars, but the EJ is a weak ass engine, no if's/but's and in case of the VA WRX's the stock tune from the factory is shit those be knocking at random 100% stock even with premium gas. Heck dont get me started on the new FA24 from the BRZ.. shit be losing oil pressure just from right hand turns.. like WTF?!

I had my 240s alternator rebuilt, cost less than a reman and got to keep most of the OE parts.
