- 4K City Walks: Leavenworth Washington - Bavarian Town - Virtual Walk Walking Treadmill Video takes us around a cute little german town near Seattle. We flew back to the States through Seattle, stayed with some friends, and then drove back towards Montana. However, we decided to meet some friends in the coolest german town in washington state, driving from Seattle to Leavenworth, Washington. It’s a town that has decided to market itself with a bavarian theme. It’s very quaint with lots of welcoming friendly residents. There are several breweries and wonderful restaurants and hotels and lots of other Leavenworth activities. We had great weather and downtown accommodations that made everything walkable. It is also known for its outdoor recreation things to do in Leavenworth. If you are interested in Leavenworth WA things to do check out the list of best things to do in Leavenworth on the Travelingmel.com blog here: travelingmel.com/the-best-thi...

Wikipedia
Leavenworth is a city in Chelan County, Washington, United States. It is part of the Wenatchee−East Wenatchee Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,965 at the 2010 census. The entire town center is modeled on a Bavarian village as part of a civic initiative that began in the 1960s. The area is a major tourist destination during the wintertime.
The railroad construction was completed during the winter of 1893. Lafayette Lamb arrived in 1903 from Clinton, Iowa to build the second largest sawmill in Washington state.
Leavenworth was officially incorporated on September 5, 1906. A small timber community, it became the headquarters of the Great Northern Railway in the early 1900s. The railroad relocated to Wenatchee in the 1920s, greatly affecting Leavenworth's economy.
In 1962, the Project LIFE (Leavenworth Improvement For Everyone) Committee was formed in partnership with the University of Washington to investigate strategies to revitalize the struggling logging town. The theme town idea was created by two Seattle businessmen, Ted Price and Bob Rodgers, who had bought a failing cafe on Highway 2 in 1960. Price was chair of the Project LIFE tourism subcommittee, and in 1965 the pair led a trip to a Danish-themed town, Solvang, California, to build support for the idea. The first building to be remodeled in the Bavarian style was the Chikamin Hotel, which owner Jamie Peterson renamed the Edelweiss after the state flower of Bavaria.
Leavenworth is home to the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum, which opened in 1995 and contains more than 5,000 nutcrackers dating from prehistoric to modern. Leavenworth hosts an annual Oktoberfest celebration. Leavenworth's transformation into a theme town was inspired, and assisted, by Solvang, California. Later, the Washington town of Winthrop followed Leavenworth's example and adopted a Western town theme.
In November 2007, Good Morning America went to Leavenworth for Holiday Gifts for the Globe where GMA helped light up the town for the Christmas Holiday. Leavenworth was also named the Ultimate Holiday Town USA by A&E

I used to live there in the early 80s... I worked as a cook at the Baren House Restaurant. I loved the community, everyone was so kind and accepting. I miss it. I have moved back to western Washington and ever since I have wished to be back in Leavenworth.
Oh wow! Must have been fairly different in the 80's. -Henry
Perfect video. I walk 45 minutes on my treadmill everyday, and I couldn't do it without your videos! Thank you!
Johnny Cache That is high praise. Thanks so much for it. Glad that you are getting a lot of use out of these. All the best. And happy walking. - Henry
@@CityWalks hope to see you walking through Raleigh, NC sometime!
Johnny Cache I’d love to. I grew up in Wilmington. - Henry
That is great!
City Walks, my friend! I come from eastern Washington state and did my studies in Seattle, so I have traveled across the state by car and bus many of times. Each time, I pass through this small Leavenworth town that always fascinated me, especially in the time of Christmas, as it feels just like a North Pole town. Thank you for this success, friend!
Oooh, I'd love to visit in Christmas time. We'll be in Europe this Christmas but maybe next year! Also, neat to learn about your background. How'd you end up in Asia? - Henry
I'm from eastern Washington too! I love Leavenworth, only been there once at Christmas time and it's so beautiful. Other times I've been there in the early and later summers, just as pretty.
Beautifull city for walking. Thanks for sharing and have a nice weekend.
Thanks so much, you too. Thanks for taking the time to comment -Henry
Yes it is a beautiful day!
There is a peace there that is like no other town...it is worth investing there. Trust me!
We'd love to go back for a visit. -Henry
The wide roads and the vast land make me tremble.
If I watch a video showing America, I can feel the magnificence of America.
It was my first time to see the town you introduced me to this time.

Agreed!
What a beautiful place, I never knew it existed - how great to have a whole themed town! Really enjoyed this walk, US towns feel so airy and spacious, and I liked getting to visit the river too, good job!
Watched Walker Thanks so much. Yeah the mountains help a lot and so does the river. Beautiful town in a beautiful setting. Thanks so much. - Henry
Neat, I had no idea a place like this existed in Washington
4K Nature and City Walks yes it’s a fun little town to to visit. With lots of little stores and restaurants and breweries. Lots of outdoor activities in the area as well. Thanks for watching in the comment. - Henry
I’m loving your videos! The length is good, talking is good. I walk for 30-45 minutes on my treadmill everyday watching these. Starting out in places I’ve been and I’m starting to go to places I want to go. This video brought back memories from when my family went there in 2016. I share pictures from your videos with my health and wellness Fb group to encourage them to walk every day. Thanks!
Thanks so much for the comment and even more for sharing with your FB Group. That helps a ton. You can search by location and run time on the website as well: citywalksvirtualtours.com

Back then I bought a house in Peshastin just 5 minutes outside of Leavenworth for$33,000.00...$350.00 a month for two lots! A home completely remodeled! I absolutely loved it there...I wanna move back.
At those prices, who wouldn't. -Henry
Henry, I just finished the Leavenworth walk. What a charming town and a beautiful setting! Per your request at the end of the walk, I am sending feedback. I quit going to the gym because of my age during the time of covid. I use your walks as part of my daily home exercise plan. I have completed all of your European & UK walks. My paternal ancestors were from Scotland, so I especially enjoyed those. Last weekend I completed your Alaska walks. Now I'm working my way down the west coast. I enjoy your commentary much more than I would music! You point out interesting sights and include history of the area. I find the length of your walks just right. Thank you for the wonderful work you do. What an education you & Mel are providing your sons! I was an educator and believe that education is not only what you learn from books & in a classroom.
Hi Susie, thanks so much for that wonderful feedback and I am so glad to hear that you were putting these videos to good use. Hang in there and keep on steppin. Thanks for the feedback. - H
What a joy to watch! what a picturesque town with those majestic mountains in the back, kinda makes me think of Switzerland..

Asia Night: Walking in Asia one day, go there with me :-)
I spent a summer here from Oklahoma in 1976. My aunt Velma had the art gallery and studio on front street. My uncle Andy and my cousin Julie brought me a newfound appreciation for the land. I'm sure no old-timers here could forget about the Andress's. My cousin Julie never went anywhere without her goat following her all over town. Goatly thought he was a dog.
Hi Rod, Thanks so much for sharing those memories. I wish I'd seen a "goatly" on my rambles. Cheers. -H
It's healing just by watching your channel. Beautiful street
So glad to hear it. Thanks so much for the kind comment - Henry

A big thank you for this nice vid of this astonishing town, and greetings from Germany 🇩🇪🙂
Glad you enjoyed it! When we first visited, we thought it was over the top. Then we went to Bavaria and realized it wasn't enough. Both places are fantastic. Thanks for commenting. -H
Wow. Great walk. Huge 👍.

Beautiful small town. The mountains in the background is just gorgeous. 👍😊
I wish we'd had time to explore them more. More info about the town at travelingmel.com (my wife's travel blog)
@@CityWalks been there twice. It is one of a kind.
What fun to see Leavenworth again! Many years ago I drove through frequently when driving from Seattle to Winthrop (when the North Cascades pass was closed) to visit my parents, and occasionally enjoyed a weekend there. Such a charming town!
Hi Pam, we couldn't agree more. And, when we first visited we thought "this is kind of over the top with the Bavarian theme" but then we visited Bavaria and it's spot on. We'd love to see it in winter as well. Apparently it's almost more charming then. -H
@@CityWalks It is wonderful in winter! We had a very festive holiday weekend there once, that included a horse drawn sleigh ride. :-)
@@pamduncan2497 Oh man, that sounds wonderful. -H
Great Video
Thanks so much. And thanks for the comment - Henry
Agreed!
Nice video
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it. Thanks for stopping by. -Henry
Looks peaceful and beautiful town... is it on weekend?
It's in the morning pretty early. It's a popular place for day trips from Seattle. Apparently, it's very lovely in winter and around Christmas too. -Henry
Thanks man! I live in Leavenworth. You walked by my house. How Cool! I couldn’t sleep and I used your video to take a walk in the daylight at 1am. Your video asked for feedback. I used a treadmill and took a walk with you. I find your commentary both appropriate and timely. I would probably jam music on the next one though and use the visual for a “walk in the moonlight”. Again thank you very much. ** Product idea City Walks wrist band or headband. I’d love to say thank you and talk is cheap. Anyways, Thanks
Thanks so much! And I love these kinds of comments with feedback and/or personal connections. We'd love to come back and explore the trails and play in the river some day. Stay safe and thanks for the suggestions. -Henry
New to the channel, me and my wife started walking around our living room to your videos a couple days ago. Saw the tons of European cities, so naturally we went with Leavenworth here. We're pretty nearby, over in Yakima, so we've been here a few times! We'll check the proper Europe cities next, I promise! - A family with a newborn, trying to get back into cardio shape
Welcome aboard! Leavenworth is a great town. Congrats on the newborn and hang in there and get some rest when possible. Glad you are enjoying these and Keep on Steppin' -H
Hi , came across your video and i’ve been thinking lately about spending christmas here. But i’m kind of worried about the weather ( if it gets bad ) and the drive going to Leavenworth. I’m from california so i have to make reservations way early if i decide to come. In your observation and experience was there a time when hwy 2 was closed.
Never been there in winter but the photos look amazing. I would be weary of weather as it gets a lot of snow but I think they’d be used to keeping the roads clear. I’d love to go in winter. -H
Nice, calm and clean city, the houses are a bit similar to Switzerland 🇨🇭 ? Do you agree ?
Thanks for sharing this walk btw
You are welcome, and I hadn't thought about it but yes, definitely smaller residences. Great observation. -Henry
They do remind me of Switzerland!
Switzerland, Austria and South of Bavaria have similar looking towns
Hi Henry, still following you on your travels now that you are back in the US. The videos are just great as they are but please no music, it is great to hear the ambient sounds as you walk around. You are taking me to interesting places that I will never have the chance to visit so keep on walking and filming as you go. Thanks, Duncan
Hi Duncan. Thanks for voicing your preferences. I probably will not put music in unless I need to cover up some sort of copyright or obnoxious sound. Thanks for your support. More walks from Montana on the way. -Henry
We have family nearby. Haven't visited yet. We live at the New Jersey Shore. Looking to possibly move out that way. We live in a Retirement Community. Nice and quiet with plenty of deer, turkeys, and birds. I'm the wife writing this. Much of my husband's ancestry comes from Alsace -Lorraine, France. They are Alsacian. The part where France and Germany constantly and historically overlap. Where they even have their unique language and culture. It really should be a separate Country, akin to Andorra, Lichtenstein, San Marino, and Luxembourg. Your video was informative, in a way. Didn't give much information about the neighborhood, or statistics. How are they handling this epidemic? Are places open?
Hi there and thanks for the comment. This town is, of course, in Washington state, not far from Seattle. Because I live in Montana, I'm not sure how this town is handling Covid nor how Bavaria in Germany is handling it. I assume people are still traveling to Leavenworth but not sure about Germany. Thanks again. -H
Great video!
Do u think September 1st could be a good time to visit? Is there any events happening or it's just so peaceful without any tourists around? (Specially asking for Sept)
Thanks!
I suspect it will be cooler but still fairly busy. Not sure about activities. Still a good time to visit. -H
@@CityWalks thank you 😇😇😇
I had never heard of this town before. They did a wonderful job making it look Bavarian. It made me want to redo my home exterior with all those flowers. You stopped talking in the last part of the walk. I prfer to know what we are doing or where we are going. Enjoyed the walk though.
Hi Victoria, yeah, it's a beautiful town and surprisingly accurate with the bavarian design. Not sure why I stopped talking on this one except I may have just run out of things to chatter on about. -H
It is enjoyable to watch your video as I am a hiking or walking fan, but I like you to say some things during your walking, such as telling where and what their name...
Thanks for that feedback. Much appreciated. -H
Very nice.
You asked suggestion whether you should put music or longer walks. About the music, it could be good, but very low and when you give any information, much lower. I say that because some youtubers just don't control well the music in the background. I also think you could do longer walks.
I usually speed up the videos speed, as I wrote you a while ago.
Yes, and thanks. I try to shoot for 45 mins to an hour but sometimes I run out of town/city to explore. :-) Thanks for the comment and feedback. All the best. -Henry
Is the weather hot in Seattle in the summer 😊🌅
Every thing is relative but it can get hot but not like the south. -H
No talking please. Just want to watch and listen to the sounds of the town. Trying to get lost into it. Add comments about the fun facts. We can read them in the captions.
Good luck on growing the channel too. Cheers!
Thanks for the feedback. -H
I live in Leavenworth
It's a pretty sweet town. I'd love to see it with winter snows. -H
Helpful! I used your video to help me find a hotel. I like the commentary; no need for music. Would be helpful to show the street signs and pan in on the names of places. Would be great for you to say, "this is the (name) hotel" and comment on it if you want to...i.e. your comment re: the Munchen House was helpful. that kind of thing... Thanks!
Great, Rebecca. So glad this was helpful. Also, thanks for the feedback and suggestions. This was recorded a few years ago and I have started to try and reference street names at intersections to help those following along. I hope you had a nice visit. It’s a cute little town. - H
I just watched the entire video. I like it with no music. I found your video because I’ve been watching the live camera over Waterfront Park with its spectacular lights. I’m very surprised you didn’t talk about how it’s a huge tourist town during the Christmas season. Gets lots of snow and the entire Waterfront Park and surrounding area is filled with walking tourists. The town is Solvang not Slovang just north of Santa Barbara. I’m no longer able to stroll the way you do. I used to walk marathons but my knees and hips are shot. I like that you don’t talk too much. I liked when you walked thru the park with all the firewood. BTW, consider checking out my channel SantaJeffClaus. Yes I appear to about 15,000 children every year in the LA area. Cheers.
Wow. Great info and story about the kids. I'll check out your channel. -H
I guess the cost of living here is pretty high compared to national average.
I would guess so. -H
Night walk ,please.
Hi George, I'll see what I can do. Do you mean specifically in Leavenworth or in general? thanks. -H
@@CityWalks in leavenworth.....Greetings from romania.
@@georgel19841 Great timing. I've been thinking of heading over there to do a winter / Christmas walk. I'll see what I can do. On another note, welcome. I've wanted to travel to Romania for years now. I'll make it over someday. Cheers. -H
First one I've seen. Was perfect for my taste,. Like the length, different parts of town, and just ambient sound with occasional informative narration. I would not have watched it with music or constant narration, or narration added later. This was like being there.
Glad you enjoyed it! It's a tough balance to find and sometimes I miss the mark. Thanks for commenting and watching -H
The architecture may seem Bavarian but the sidewalks are in perfect American style: empty.
Good point.
