how come? I'm just deciding between installing redshift or octane and wondered how different it is? Is it too difficult to use redshift for this effect?
@@mattgarrett3768 redshift works differently to octane. octane is a lot more similar to the standard render in the way that you set up materials. you can get a decent effect by just adding a thin film, but you have to use a handful of different nodes in redshift. Personally though, I would choose Redshift instead of Octane because its more stable and provides a bit more realism.
@@mattgarrett3768 Octane is fairly famous for crashing all the time. I tried the trial version of octane and it crashed on me in every session. I havent had any issues with stability from redshift so far.
I think the latest version Octane 2020 has partial support for RTX cards, you can click on Settings->Device Settings and select the checkbox for RTX acceleration. Although it might cause some instability for your scene file and does not yet fully support for all the features.
instead of doing an octane hdri, you can use the built-in Sky object. make a new c4d material and add the image he talks about to the Luminance channel and apply it to the sky. For the metallic reflective material just turn off everything except Reflection and you should get somewhat similar results.
@@alienorrostan5809 its pretty simple with physical render. you make a material, and only check the Reflectance channel. make it a GGX and increase the reflection to 100% and decrease the roughness. under "layer color" go to Texture> Effects > Thin Film.
@Mohamed Rafeeque GGX is a reflective type of material. Its used for metal materials and other reflective materials. When you click on your material and are in the Material Editor, click on the "reflectance" channel from the list, and then you see under the Default Specular options where it says "type", it will say Specular -Blinn (legacy). You need to change that to GGX.
