52 ans de service bénévole, seulement interrompu entre 1977 et 1989 pour les travaux de construction du nouvel orgue, Jean Guillou est nommé par la paroisse « Organiste titulaire émérite » le 22 septembre 2014. Il joue souvent les dimanches à Saint-Eustache, jusqu'à la Semaine sainte de 2015 (il est alors âgé de 85 ans).

It is utterly moving to see and hear the maestro himself explaining "his" instrument and its historic origins in all its complexity and versatility and although I believe to be well versed in the instrument, his explanation caught me by surprise, offering me several new facts and insights in its whereabouts ... In his subsequent demonstration of the style periods that have been most important for the development of the organ, one can only wonder about the colours that he is able to elicit from the organ, from Haydn´s music for the "Flötenuhr" to Liszt´s "Valse oubliée" ... Too bad that he appeared to get slightly carried away towards the end of his rendering of the first part of Widor´s 6th Symphony, apparently confusing "interpretation" with "improvisation". Nevertheless: Jean Guillou will forever remain an unforgettable and iconic master of the "King of Instruments" that is the organ and also, he will forever remain associated with the Great Organ of St. Eustache in Paris which he master-minded, in close collaboration with my compatriot Jan van den Heuvel from Dordrecht in The Netherlands.

50'22 : en réalité, Widor a "cédé" ses claviers à Marcel Dupré en 1934 et est décédé la même année que Ravel, Vierne et Roussel en 1937.

Fugue en re à 6 voix ?
L’orgue est né avec l’Eglise et par l’Eglise, et pour l’Eglise. Pour l’orgue comme pour les ames, hors de l’Eglise (traditionnelle) point de salut.
Dommage, Erreur de débutant de confondre l’orgue avec un orchestre, ça n’a rien a voir. Le savoir n’est pas la compréhension !
Décidément, Guillou à l'orgue, ça a toujours été moche. J'aime mieux Thomas Ospital qui lui a succédé.
