That ramones solo is generally one of my favorites out there. Is there anything more punk rock than forgoing the traditionally flashy solo section and just jamming on the open E string for 8 bars? Johnny Ramone is a GOAT
The Hell Song was the solo that got me hooked! The first time I really sat down with a guitar for hours and didn’t get up until I could play it clean! Thank you for including it!!! ❤️
A damned fun song to jam, no doubt. The one for me, however, was Crazy Train. Once I figured out that the opening of the solo was a finger tap, the next 8 or so hours were spent dissecting every note until I could run it cleanly.
The Hell Song solo is pretty innovative with a bunch of different types of parts blending in that song. I have seen that kind of creativity in something like Children of Bodom.
Hearing the solo on American Idiot after hearing the solos he’s very capable of from songs off of 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours and Kerplunk, it just falls short. Like he can play really cool blues solos.
Always a shame, mike ness was on his way to being a great great guitar player and ended up just ok. The blues is great but compared to the quick melodic riffs and energy of wreckage from the past he fell so far. He doesnt even play the simple solos live any more. He cant.
Hey that first one is one of my favorite songs off one of my favorite albums by my all time favorite band. Only Rain, by Bad Religion from The Dissent of Man (2010)
I want to know what solo was copyright blocked. Looked familiar. Although you may have just been doing a basic solo for comedic purposes which then makes it even more hilarious. Also, coming from a close to 40 year old punker who spent his 20s in punk bands, the "Not Quite There Yet" soloist is what we used to call the "Open Bar Chord Soloist". Tons of pop punk from the mid 90s to the late 2010s had open bar chord soloists haha! Still tickled that punk spot on the back of my neck though.
You forgot "I'm too good to be playing pop punk" check out The Ergs! - most violent rap group, or really any of their songs. Jeff Schroeck is a beast and so are the other Ergs.
I been playing guitar for 30 years, learned from the masters such as hetfield and the one and only "good man" Mr seagal. To this day the I wanna be sedated solo and floored me and at this rate I'll never play it
First I thought you forgot "Social Distortion" - but you didn't dissapoint :-) It's the first band that comes to my mind when I think of solos in punk.
What's your favourite style?

Sum 41 is best for me
Please listen to Trigonometria - Verão

Technically the 5th on the B string is how Johnny played it but it makes the same note so it doesn't matter.
You got it
yeah Carousel solo is one of my favorite !
did you mean genuinely?
@@SkatePunkBanana It technically does matter. it might be essentially be the same note, but the two strings will sound different.
Anti-solos are the true punk rock solos. You can’t change my mind.
Agreed.
Yes!
Sounded the most punk ngl
God damn right
@@jinstyles8323 Glad to have others on my side.
The Hell Song was the solo that got me hooked! The first time I really sat down with a guitar for hours and didn’t get up until I could play it clean! Thank you for including it!!! ❤️
Dude literally same! Its so blistering and fun to play!
A damned fun song to jam, no doubt. The one for me, however, was Crazy Train. Once I figured out that the opening of the solo was a finger tap, the next 8 or so hours were spent dissecting every note until I could run it cleanly.
I was literally listening to the Hell Song today and always admired the fact that the guitar player plays sick metal licks.
The Hell Song solo is pretty innovative with a bunch of different types of parts blending in that song. I have seen that kind of creativity in something like Children of Bodom.
@@gredangeo Yup! I love that kind of intricacy.
The American Idiot imprpv solo was superb my guy
Hearing the solo on American Idiot after hearing the solos he’s very capable of from songs off of 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours and Kerplunk, it just falls short. Like he can play really cool blues solos.
Playing the Aliens exist "solo" live is the reason I started to play in a band. Best blink instrumental part ever 😍
I've been playing that for about 20 years and still love it!
I love it too!! I also love playing the carousel intro more, every chance I get I always play it😅
@@markl1910 lol me too. Fucking epic song and "solo" lol
Carousel Is other
@@tyler9578 Fucking LOVE that shit! So fun to play, and it sounds so awesome!
The solo in "I had an idea for a movie" really speaks to me for some reason, feel like it has a lot of personality
Like how sum 41 was in their a couple of times. Always liked their solos/leads, not too long but effective.
The RUclips Copyright Claim one was the best because he literally played sounds that are impossible to do with a guitar
what was the youtube copyright claim one.
The Bad Religion solo at the start was beautiful! Brian Baker is an excellent guitarist and a great person :). I Love his solo styles!
Brian and Brett have a ton of great little solos throughout Bad Religions back catalogue!
@@SugarpillProd Don't forget Hetson. He has some great ones too.
What song?
The Living End is a pop punk band with some sick rockabilly-esque solos.
Yeah I've covered them a couple times in past videos.
Check out Stockyard Stoics
Oh yeah, the Prisoner Of Society solo rips
Love your inclusion of The Vandals.
Man, I would love to hear more Bad Religion here! Keep it up!
Those Tom delonge epiphones are like crazy expensive now
Haha I know. They're like triple the price I paid for mine.
So true bro 😢
Ray toro was also a metalhead in a punk rock band in my chemical romance. Mainly called emo. But it still is punk rock🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Mcr is mostly a pop punk band, only their first album is emo/post hardcore
Love this! Just got reminded of how Billie Joe used to really Duke it out with the solos in early Green Day material - I'm talking pre-Dookie.
Sum 41's metal insperation is awsome
So cool to see The Vandals here, Warren is a S+ guitarist he played the guitar for Tenacious D debut album
I am loving the change in lighting you've been using man. Keep up the great content!
Love the blues scale of Social D
💯🔥

Great job distinguishing these styles!
There are many great solos, but about one I was 100% sure it would be here
I wanna be sedated!
Prison Bound is such an underrated solo
Hearing that Flavor of The Weak solo reignited a time in my life long forgotten
He’s been Miley Cyrus’s band leader/musical director for a long time now.
@@kcamsdog1387 you definitely hear it in her early stuff
It makes me so happy to see/hear social distortion on lists like this
I like how you put the hell song solo in there. One of my favorites!
I really feel that sometimes squires have a better and prettier variety of colors than any other strats
There's only one Mike Ness! 🎸🤘🏻
Thanks a lot for the video! 😊👍🏻
Hey that first one is one of my favorite songs off one of my favorite albums by my all time favorite band. Only Rain, by Bad Religion from The Dissent of Man (2010)
Mine to!
American Hi-Fi is the good one so far
Man, people slept on American Hi Fi. They have some great tracks.
I've noticed hardcore bands like Black Flag tend to have messy, atonal solos
Good way to start it off with that bad religion, preach!
Mawn, the smile Hell Song gave me. Thanks, dude!
Imidiately recognized the first one as a bad religion solo even though i’ve never heard the song before.
I want to know what solo was copyright blocked. Looked familiar. Although you may have just been doing a basic solo for comedic purposes which then makes it even more hilarious. This video put a smile on my face, so nostalgic.
Impressive. Now lets hear the bass solos...
The live improviser really is it for me!
Not Quite There Yet is solid, tasteful.
I don't have quite have those chops but the Punk Rocker with Chops bit was rather inspiring. Well done 👍
Thanks so much 🙏
I loved the short but sweet one 🤘🏻
"Only Rain" by Bad Religion... I recognized it immediately!
You forgot "I'm too good to be playing pop punk"
check out The Ergs! - most violent rap group, or really any of their songs. Jeff Schroeck is a beast and so are the other Ergs.
basically metalhead in a pop punk band
I really liked the metalhead solo, it sounded like something from Three Cheers
One of my favorite punk solos of all-time is 'Boredom' by Buzzcocks!
Awesome!
Love the Simpson's T-Shirts as well.
Idea for a movie is one of mt favorites
The Live Improvisor one offended me so hard because that is exactly what I do
You really rock man, love all your guitars and the tones you get are just perfect. You are very good. And your taste in music is exactly same as mine.
Thanks Matthew!
Warren killin it in Idea For a Movie!!
I'd argue the part with the "metalhead in a pop punk band" solo should've gone to "The Kids Aren't Alright" by The Offspring.
With a few weeks practice, I might be able to crack "I wanna be sedated"
Took me about a month to nail down.
I been playing guitar for 30 years, learned from the masters such as hetfield and the one and only "good man" Mr seagal. To this day the I wanna be sedated solo and floored me and at this rate I'll never play it
Was almost sure the 'metalhead in a punk band' one was going to be early Teranishi
I'm getting a better amp tomorrow with more settings for differe t clean tones and crunchy and I'm soo excited
Nice video, but i gotta add that white les paul is beeeeautiful
Nice Squier! beautiful color
Need the messy Discharge-esque solo
The RUclips one cracked me up. Good stuff.
Yes, and you call these solos steamed despite the fact they are obviously grilled
I know most of those solos but haven’t figured out the “idea for a movie one”.. I like how everything the vandals do is for a laugh.
This man of culture threw American Hifi in there
Flavour of the Weak and Hell Song are so cleaaan.
Haha thanks man! They definitely weren't first takes 😂
It doesn't matter how many times I listen to The Hell Song, I never expect that solo.
the first one the best one
Very cool! Thanks for a good music
Definitely need some Tom Verlaine/Richard Lloyd, Greg Ginn and Billy Zoom.
Great Social D song to pick.
Great video, only one I was missing was Greg Ginn and his strange style
Ah yes! Love the Vid. Glad ya included BR! IMO the best punk band!
T shirt and DVDA outro won the sub from me!
Epic guitar skills, but those t-shirts made me laugh so damn hard, LOVE THEM!
I like this guy when he play a social distortion solo😂
Gotta say seeing Billie Joe actually do the live improv solo on AI is so cool. 10/10 would go to Green Day a 4th time lol
You should check out some solos from the living end
really well produced video
5 types of post punk solos pls.
i had no clue punk had solos wow
The copyrighted one was amoeba by adolescents lol
Good eye haha.
Loved the vandals pull!
First I thought you forgot "Social Distortion" - but you didn't dissapoint :-) It's the first band that comes to my mind when I think of solos in punk.
Yeah I've always loved Mike's style of soloing. Even when they go on for like 5 minutes, haha.
Bad Religion ❤
I found my one. Heh. THE LIVE IMPROVISER 🤣
4:18 REMINDS ME OF LET IT BE JSDFB
Bro that T-shirt :D Awesome :D :D Lee Carvallo's Putting Challenge
Freaking awesome killer sound dude! (BTW Restringing the W Les Paul would be a cool idea, hahaha! Those black strings man!)
4:50 Ah, the good old days when Green day had actual solos.
Literally each of these could work for Social Distortion, except the RUclips copyright, however The Toy Dolls do work for each and every one
Anti-solos! Because I can’t. 😢
the youtube copyright claimer is the best one hands down easy 👍
The traditionalist all the way!! PS: nice playing man!!
Love your shirt streamed hands shirt
This video could do with some Greg Ginn solos.
SHES JUST THE FLAVOUR OF THE WEEK!
Can you do a tutorial on how to get that Pop punker with chops tone?
That song is flavor of the week in case you were wondering/didn't know
keep playing bri dont ever give up this is sick
