Timber Framed Barn Part 10 Cross Frame One Complete

- Опубликовано: 14 апр 2023
- The week we managed to get one of the end cross frames done. the ends are quite complex because they have the braces that tie in to the truss so it took a while but the next ones will be quicker.
We also had some more lambs this week.
I found the chapters in ruclips.net/user/postUgkxYGamVaHfdHiPlAQaLa7zkwR02OKpGYDU to be very relevant to my project as I embarked on building my first ever structure from the ground up. I especially found this Ryan’s Shed Plans to be of great use when it came to building the roof. I was able to do all the cuts and installation by myself, with a little reference to this Ryan’s Shed Plans.
I am fully impressed! It’s just a complete ruclips.net/user/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 plan with the best resources and step by step instructions . These shed plans are so satisfying as if the sheds build themselves on their own. Worthy work Ryan!
The more I see of this building the more I think this is how a barn would have been built several hundred years ago. Everything you do, Kris, is way over kill so your barn will probably stand at least 500 years! No use doing a job twice; do it right the first time! I enjoy watching your life happen. 🐑
This building might be even stronger than an ancient one, when you factor in the precision of modern power tools in the hands of these skilled craftsmen. This joinery is amazing!
@@131Clem I'm amazed every single time he shows that green leveling laser and the whole thing is dead on. Agree that the precision can only make it stronger.
it all depends on the roof maintenance if the roof leaks it all be gone in a few years, especially in whales
@@131Clem geometry maybe better but skills i don't know, don't underestimate the precision of a trained eye. the level technique and power tools they use maybe faster but better i don't know, i'am not saying it not as good maybe less mistakes, and they always finish with hand tools.
@@bobrobert6277 🤣🤣 I have been watching Kris since day one. Be sure he will over kill on the roof, too! I am not a builder but I think he does nothing slip-shod. It will be interesting to see....
What a team I didn’t imagine there were so many highly skilled hard grafting men still around. The whole structure is magnificent bravo.
there you go it's not so often demonstrated in real life for to meny would rathe run the Brit's Down as a work force, You will not find EU migrant doing that job if the gild as got any thing to do with-it. even Brit's can get into it .
Its so refreshing to see that in times of technology and AI some people still do some old fashioned handwork! Love it
@@AdrianvanWijk And the care he puts in.
Waterwheel hydro project... right after this incredible barn has been erected, you're spoiling us Kris. Such a wealth of enjoyable content and, may I say, the way you craft the video editing is as good as any professional. Howard, yourself, and his team are creating a building of beauty to last many generations.
All coming together slowly Kris. That centre joint was lovely to watch being made. Its going to be amazing once it's done!
Having cut that kind of joint myself, the moment at 14:39 when you go *thunk* *thunk* and waste just falls away... that's one of the most badass things I've seen this week.
This barn is a long way from your outdoor composting toilet. It's a natural progression for your channel.
This barn will probably be the focal point in all your drone shot.
Wow! You guys are amazing.
Thanks for taking us along for the ride on this amazing journey!
Unbelievable experience and knowledge.
Just hands and brain.
No computer, no application.
Honest respect.
You'll have to be sure to have each one of the guys sign their name on a visible place so that everyone who comes into the barn can see who built it!! I can't wait to see it back at your place and standing proud. Excellent work by all of you!
carved would be my opinion
A wooden plaque to commemorate the team
Fantastic display of skill from traditional joinery through to CAD
In a place where the next joiner to work on it, in 200 years time, will find it.
Great work Kris!
Your fellow timber framing crew are amazing!
Lambing was wonderful! New life is very pleasing!
I’m so happy for and Dot!
Your surrounded by brilliant people!
Made my day! Thank you!
You made an interesting juxtaposition with the intricacies of the creation of your barn and the birth of the lambs in the paddock. Both are things of beauty, both coming into existence at the same time. Fantastic work by you and the lads; craftsmen in every sense of the world.
A work of art and this is exactly how it should be viewed as not just a building and what is wonderful to see is that these craftsmen are all young men. So often when you see this kind of skilled work it is being done by much older men and women and you worry who is going to continue this skilled work when they retire but here no worries here, timber framed buildings are in safe hands.
Bloody work of art. 👍
Looking like you picked exactly right crew for this massive undertaking, seems like they know all the tricks of their trade and the space you've rented looks like you have plenty enough room and is dry, can not wait until it is back at your farm and stood up, great looking job all around
I have pulled dozens of lambs - stuck in the sheep. Always amazes me to be able to walk to sheep and they stand still and allow me to reach deep inside of them to correct the lamb and pull it out. The amount of trust that the animals can give to you when in stress, is amazing! I have medium hands - but big muscles arms - so it is not easy for them.
Magnificent!
It is marvelous to see a team of skilled traditional builders at work. A rare breed nowadays.
Wow .... !!!!!! Absolutely Stunning Craftmanship .... and Your attention to design is a real miracle .... Congratulations to All involved ..... Has been a Real Pleasure to be part of it, as a 'Viewer' .... Cheers from ChCh, NZ
Outstanding work by Howard and his crew. Lovely design, too. Can't wait to see the barn standing
Glorious work by the TimberRoots team 👍
This is one of the best vids you've produced. Showing the work in progress instead of just all the walking with a face in the camera all the time. Better to turn the camera to look where you are walking than have the face in it after about a half minute. THIS old world construction is Quite the opposite to the USA where these are all built with tin and just leveled after a few decades.
Looking like an expensive project, but will be well built.
An amazing project and an amazing team of old school skilled chippys.
Well done to everybody concerned.
Surely they are aware that that building will still be there in 1000yrs!!!! ?
Regards Mark in the UK
Another fantastic week of craftmanship at it's best, including pontificating. So nice to see good hand tools and not a nail gun in sight. New life on the farm, barn coming along but were is kittykat? Looking forward already to the next film. Have a great weekend.😎
This is a really lovely life you and your good lady are building here Kris 😊
I'm incredibly impressed by Howard and hope he gets a ton more customers after the frame is done!
This gives you an appreciation of the old timers who built ships and cathedral roofs with oak.
100%
I'm, honestly, just in awe of the craftsmanship and skill of all you men. I wish I could accurately express how it makes me feel to watch all of this coming together. You are all doing yourselves proud. God bless.
I would live in that barn...I would make the upstairs my home... Great work.
After watching all the build videos of your house, various outbuildings and especially your shop I've been impressed by your timber work - especially the round timber work done with no reference edges. It took you quite a while to get that shop building done single handed with occasional help. This would have taken you the whole summer just to cut the joinery. This is an awesome design and it is all coming together really nicely. This crew is really making it possible for you to get this thing done and hopefully completed this year. It's going to be lovely, if you'll pardon my sad, American attempt at a Britishism.
I am a Canadian living in Thailand and enjoy watching your videos. Your work is very good
A group of artists working together. GREAT TEAM WORK......👌 👍
Given my very inadequate woodworking skills I absolutely love to watch this awesome team of talented craftsmen create such beautiful forms in wood. This series is just fantastic, and I can't wait for each episode
Superb again! This barn series has been so educational. Im sure many teenagers and older will be inspired to start a career in timber construction etc. Well done Kris.
I bet these boys don’t come cheap but they are worth every penny..skilled tradesmen one and all , a beautiful job lads!!👍👍
..these framing videos are an absolute joy to watch. Can't wait to see the building go up..
Amazing work guys ! can't imagine the time it would take to do it without power tools...
This is the perfect thing to watch on a rainy Sunday morning after moving my duck 💩 to the new outside beds for next year. I am on a similar journey, not far away, near Lampeter.
My Gosh Kris you going to need a vacation soon as busy as you are. Cant wait to see the barn going up. What a muddy mess you are dealing with. I live in NW Indiana and we have been lucky with our winter and spring weather.
That timberwork is absolutely marvelous. I built a lot of utility barns and workshops and halls over the last couple decades, partly with complicated statics and steel-rod or wire cables for tension members and weird stuff like fishbellied girders and composite girders, but never did I have the time or the means to build an "orthodox" construction like Your barn here.
Makes me slightly envious to be honest. What a beautiful way to do it. Thank You for sharing that colossal build!
Epic build will last for generations. I am hoping that your main residence, when you build it will be a 'land ship house'. Great team, keep up the good work.
I've seen timber framed construction before, but I don't think I've seen it quite like this team. These guys are crazy skilled!!
Hi Chris.
Yep another superb video.
It is so exciting to see your dreams come into realisation. A truly magnificent testament to your skills and perseverance.
I, and I’m sure many of your subscribers, would love if you could share (without wishing to invade your privacy) a little of the costings, both financially and the man-hours that this is taking.
Keep up the good work.
Mark K, Dublin, Ireland.
My small takeaway from this video is: these craftsman use the best tool for its application. There isn’t the “brand loyalty” you see in the States. And honestly, it’s refreshing!! Beautiful work so far, keep it up 👍
yeah exactly. we all use lots of different brands of tools. Just depends on what ones work the best for that job.
I'm fascinated how these guys are doing such a precise work with basic hand tools and ordinary power tools - all of that in a rather quick pace. Nice work!
Wish I had your energy and intelligence. God Bless you and yours.
I Luke seeing all the things Dot gets up to as well. Lamb watch 2023
You're right, it really is lovely. The quality of the work is really superb; I didn't know you could cut that accurately with a large circular saw!
Wow, it's a spectacular frame Kris! Coming together beautifully. And nice to see the lambing is going well too!
I would never have imagined there were people who still had the skills to build a barn like this. I’m so happy the skills were not lost!
Your baby lambs are the cutest things ever!! So adorable! And it’s plain to see how much you love them. It’s wonderful to watch❤️🐝🤗
The omish and Mennonite communities in America build all thier barns without using power tools and use wood pegs to connect all the timbers. They all come togeather as a group and there can be a couple hundred men who will erect a huge timber framed barn in a day. Google omish barn raising on u tube . It's really amazing to watch so many men who still use old time honored skills that have been almost forgotten in our modern fast paced world.

It's pretty amazing to see an old stile of making a barn this is Mark I have spoken!
Beautiful barn. Will stand for centuries.
As a child of ten I watched one of the only peg and beam builders rebuild a house in Avoncroft museum. It is even more wonderful to see this team creating this amazing barn at 66 years old not only has it kept the skill going but vastly improved the methods. Wonderful wood butchers thanks for all you post it’s all wonderful.
It’s fascinating to watch the team work. The barn is going to be here for a few generations to come. Great work 🌈
Thanks you and staff, Kris !! A wonderful and interesting job !, bye from Italy ! 🇮🇪🇮🇪
You certainly picked the right crew for your build. Their craftsmanship and carpentry is a work of art, and fits right in with the work you’ve done so far on your round house and the workshop. It’s amazing, and I can’t wait to catch up to see it finished.
I used the word cathedral some episodes ago; I was right. This is a piece of monumental medieval-style construction. These men are just incredible. I never imagined that this kind of knowledge had survived! This is a piece of English history in the making and will be admired in 2223, never mind 2023/1. Fair dues to you, Kris for having the imagination and bravery to attempt this! In some ways it is not as incredible as the lambing, but it's in the same league. Dot looks to be in her element.
LOOKING FORWRED TO THE WATER WEEL JOB KRIS . WELL YES EVEN THE MILING THAT AS IT INTRESTING , VEUWING .
Really enjoying watching such skilled work. They are such a well organised team and appear to love their job. Lastly impressed by the variety of headgear😂
True craftsman !! Everyone of you. This is such Art , skill, and ingenuity ❤❤❤❤❤
I feel like you've pretty much got life sussed out. Pleasure to watch and learn a great deal from your content 👍
This building is going to be a work of art once it's finished. So funny that it'll only be a barn!
I’ve watched this 3 times! What? I don’t know why I just love the skills ❤
Kris! Unbelievable professionalism from the men who make you a frame. The building will last hundreds of years.
These guys are amazing wood workers. The accuracy of the work is shown each time it comes to fitting the piece together.
I LOVE your content. Thank you!
Loving your work. Totally brilliant.
Another great video always a pleasure to watch 😊
As excited as I am to see this getting completed I cannot imagine how good it must feel for you!
Beautiful design and craftsmanship. It's great to see that old world skills are still alive today. I fear that the next generation will lose these skills. Your barn will stand as an example for many many years to come. Thanks Kris for bringing us along on your life journey
What a build, just wow!
👍👍👍
Aw Kris, Dot’s little lambing lookout for the two of you was the cutest thing ever!! 🥰 love seeing the little moments, and the big! This building’s going to be stunning once it’s up. Cheers guys xx
I can't wait to see the finished barn! great work!

Work of art it is….and it will be soooo big when you stand it up!

Thanks Kris. You are a man of many talents! 🐑
Wow, your barn is looking awesome 👌
Well done Kris.
You’re an inspiration.
This is fabulous... well done all.👏🥳👍
Coming along beautifully. This is going to be one amazing building once finished. Really enjoyed the walk around and good to know the lambing’s going well.
For the life of me though, l can’t believe that 54k have viewed and only 5.2k have liked!! Come on people, press that like button. It costs you nothing.
These boys certainly know what they're doing. Pleasure to watch such craftsmen at work.
This is a work of art like you said. Wonderful video! Congratulations on your new lambs!!
All that lovely precision fitting on those big timbers. What a build!
Thanks for posting and sharing. What a big project.
I love watching. It's so refreshing that you know what you're talking about and you're being productive.. you have to search through a lot of stuff on youtube to find that ..top !
This is going to be an epic building once completed! Can't wait to see it.
I enjoy every one of your videos and love to see the workmanship and deep thought you put into everything you build or repair.
