Thanks a lot for these videos. I just completed an integrated bug net for the hammock I had made before following these videos. Used the calculations based on the dimensions of my hammock and it all turned out great. (notwithstanding my substandard sewing skills) I watched other videos and had an idea but they all seemed to be lacking important details that you provided. Super helpful. Another thank you.

Just as I was wondering what pencil you were using, the description popped up on the screen (I also use 2B lead). Thanks for the tips!

Hi, this is a long shot, but I hope you still check your messages. If I kept the foot box at the same 72 degree angle but half the length. Would that effect anything on the hammock.
Just want to make the footbox smaller. Thanks.

Just wanted to say thank you for making such high quality videos. I started working on my first pack, and so far it has been much easier than any of the tarps that I've made before. Just a quick question, do you have plans for any projects aimed more at the ground dwelling underclass? I do most of my backpacking in either the desert or Sierras, and a hammock setup isn't really that useful for me.

DD hammocks, a UK based company, has a lightweight, portable hammock stand for only $150 usd, and that includes shipping from the UK. Its super lightweight at 46 ozs and designed to be used on hikes where you might be above the tree line or in a meadow or in the desert, where 2 perfect trees,or any trees for that matter are hard to find. It breaks down pretty small and can be lashed right to the outside of your pack. I think it has a 250 lb limit as well and works with any standard size hammock and tarp. DD bought the rights from the original manufacturer, Handy Hammock and makes them in-house @ their facility in the UK. Shipping is also great, the t-shirt I bought only took 2 days to get to me in Maryland !! Here's the link : www.ddhammocks.com/us/product/ultralight_hammock_stand

Marshall chip Moore Thanks for the suggestion, it's something to look into, after I bankrupt myself by purchasing a ton of 950 down for my top quilt project.

NP. I know what you mean, now that Hammock Gear has their new Econ line of Incubators and Burrows, its gonna be hard not to buy at lest a 30° set to go with the 0° I already have, if not a 30° AND a 50°, even though I definetly don't need them BC I already have way more than I need lol. But having 0° , 30° and 50° matched sets means I could get rid of a lot of the miss- matched pieces I have and still be good for any temp from 70° down to well below zero. Damn OCD, using mix matched quilts drives me crazy and is gonna make me go broke! Lol , but if I buy anymore it might make me end up divorced.

I have along list of sewing projects. It is huge. I'd like to try making a pack, but since I have a really good pack that fits me well, I'm good for the time being. What types of "ground dweller" things did you have in mind?

Question: I want to make my hammock wider. The material I'm starting with is 71" wide. Can I just make my endcap triangles wider, or will I have to make it longer as well? Is preserving the 72 degree angle necessary, or can one play with that a bit?

From how the formula works the end cap measurement isn't dependent on the width of the hammock but rather the length. So if you are doing a 11 foot hammock I say use these same end cap measurements

Do you need to order extra fabric to make the triangles? Or can you take the extra yard off of the 5 yards for the bottom layer? Confused about this, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The numbers on my pattern are the fabric totals, so there should be plenty of fabric in 5 yards to make your hammock and construct the triangles. Good luck.

What do you call that brown paper use used to cut out the triangle? I'm going to need that I think for a tarp I'm designing.

I think it is called craft paper. You should be able to find it at any craft store and perhaps also hardware stores.
