American gun enthusiast here. To answer your inquiry about guns jamming when chamber firing them, and if it’s realistic, *it somewhat is.* There is a small protruding rod on the bolt of many guns called an extractor. Its job is to ride over the round in the top of the magazine (while the bolt pushes a round into the chamber), clamp onto said round, and, after firing, “eject” the spent casing. The extractor is spring loaded, and carries some tension. When chamber firing a weapon, you drop a round in the chamber and close the bolt. Because the extractor isn’t riding the next round (because of a lack of a magazine), its tip is forced to push itself around the rim of the chambered cartridge, rather than being somewhat “gently” guided to it. As a result, it is possible for the tip of the extractor to become so worn from the force of the closing bolt, that it is no longer able to grasp the chambered cartridge, meaning you would experience a “failure to extract” malfunction, similar to the likewise jam in the game. It is unlikely, however, that you would have enough ammunition to wear down the extractor, as it would take hundreds of repeated bolt closes on most rifles, such as AR-15/M4 pattern and AK-type rifles. @@t.r.4496 realistic ammo malfunctions would honestly end up being either the worst jams or the simplest. A bad round could just, not go off... rechamber a new round and keep going, or the round could get stuck inside the barrel, usually caused by an underpowered loading or bad powder. If you fire your gun while you have a bullet stuck in there you will garrenteed blow up your gun and it will be ruined. Imagine that being a part of the game 💀💀

I agree, supressor is such a nice thing to have, and even more when you only play vanilla-ish servers. But to be honest... remember. The more supressed shots, the less encounters. You might think there are no fights, no encounters, but the thing is, it just might mean, many ppl are supressed. So by my optic, it kills alot of interactions, and that feeling, when you finally hear a shot. So I absolutely agree with the supressor being extremely rare and hard to maintain, by Bohemia.
It keeps it from becoming PUBG. If your concerned about your gun's quality, you wont use it unless you absolutely have to- which adds to the overall vibe of the game.
The loading of a round directly without a magazine is realistic that it will jam, because the extractor isn't properly in place. I also think that it will jam if you load the chamber directly from outside, even though you have the magazine attached, which is realistic not a bug.
Most guns don't have the extractor problem, the issue is whe you let the bolt slam onto the round. If you can ease it down and let it seat carefully then you're good. But yeah in game they are slamming that shit most of the time
This is reassuring, from my experience jams were much more frequent, but i was just being very unlucky, i had a damaged bizon with worn mag, and the first time i fired it jammed after the first shot, and later jammed on the third. I was terrified to have to fight from that point, thinking my weapons would simply be useless.

I wish I recorded but I’m swearing that it happened. We were in low pop servers I was showing him the game and the gun jammed. I couldn’t believe it myself! Try it and see if you come up with the same thing. I never in a million years would have thought it would’ve jammed but it did!
When calculating the probability of a failure, you generally shouldn't just add the numbers, but instead multiply the chance of success. So that would be 90% * 95% = 85,5% success rate with a badly damaged mag and a badly damaged gun. So not 15%, unless the devs have screwed up.

Few days ago I spotted a guy driving around in a boat on deer isle. He was driving by in a very straight line and I had a good angle on him. My worn dmr with a worn magazine literally jammed after the first shot. I have worn/worn jams with assault rifles like all the time to the point of not being able to trust ARs even if their condition is pretty good. I actually prefer an SKS over most ARs in CQB bc this weapon literally never jammed on me in deciding moments. Call it bad luck but something isn’t adding up here with the numbers of jams Im experiencing at worn/worn states
Xbows may not technically Jam but there is a glitch where the Xbow is loaded but will not fire. Seems to be an issue possibly related to performing an activity while going through the Load straight to Bow animation from a previous kill.

in real life, chambered ammunition can cause problems even in a perfectly clean weapon, a slight flaw in the case can cause problems, and overloaded round can cause problems. I am shocked that bohemia has not made the possibility of damaged weapons failing catastrophically and exploding in the hands of the shooter as can happen in real life.
Ammo does affect weapon jams if the gun and mag are pristine and the ammo inside that mag is badly damaged it can jam yes but because the gun and mag are pristine it will create a negative multiplier to the ammo jam chance instead of it being 5-10% it would go down to 2.5% jam chance
So if you load a mag pristine, into a pristine gun, but load a bullet to top it off will it still jam? I’ve had pristine weapons jam on me but do this often to top of my weapons.
Don’t we technically chamber fire every round loaded into a gun from a mag, as the top round is extracted from the mag and into the chamber before firing. So wouldn’t that mean that damaged rounds loaded into mags can still cause jams at the rate shown for weapon jams when chamber firing?
The probability of a gun jamming while chambering it by hand is little to none. The way I’ve seen it happen is someone lets the bolt go into battery softly and the extractor doesn’t catch the rim of the round and therefore doesn’t lock up properly or at all. The amount of times I have hand chambered my irl Ak 101 I have never had it happen
Wobo I have a question regarding the tripwire and grenades. Does unpining the grenade, dropping it on the floor, picking it up again and pinning it back shorten the time for explosion the second time someone unpins it? And does it work also if I put it on tripwire for victims to have less reaction time?
I’m not sure about rifles and I’m sure it varies but I’ve never had a weapon Glock on the over 30 I’ve owned besides if I have a round chambered with no magazine in the pistol
Individually chambering rounds wouldnt cause a jam unless you did it wrong in which it would be before you ever fired would be cool if certain guns were more jam prone than others, like the mk2. I own a ruger mk3 and while its probably my most reliable 22 pistol its still pretty ammo sensitive. I have also had break and bolt actions jams. Funny enough an actual bakail 43 with a stuck extractor and pretty much all mosins

*PRO TIP* if u lie down it'll cancel out reload/unjam animation (at least on ps5) and if u time it right even shorten said animations. Lie down 4 sec into unfamiliar animation will not only cancel it but unjam gun (although jam cleared u will need to cycle in new round) and if u lie down halfway or more thru reload it'll not only cancel animation but reload complete!!! 😮

I just wish the unjam animations made more sense. You don’t smack and beat your gun to unjam it. You identify the issue, eject magazine, rack the bolt/slide, reinsert the magazine and rechamber the weapon. That will fix almost every jam possible. Unless it’s a catastrophic malfunction. Then you’re pretty much screwed.
Just jammed a pristine KAM with pristine bullets and a pristine magazine. Lost a character in the new update because of this. Instantly lost all morale to play. Honestly if this was somebody's first experience i see why the reviews are so low for the game.

Has anyone else noticed or can confirm whether the DayZ fandom wiki is outdated or least a bit inaccurate? Some of the item stats seem to be redundant to each other or misrepresented, especially some of the equipment sizes and porousness. Only asking because I want to be certain in comparing the states of equipment in determining the true meta items within each item category, specifically considering apparel, shoes and backpacks specifically. For example, from what I can tell, Assault boots and Leather backpacks seem to utterly outclass every other boot and bag of a similar category or archetype, regardless of specific advantages of some other items in their class. Any input would be appreciated.

Not realistic at all. Once gun is in battery the extractor is in position to work.

Yes a gun good jam while breach loading. Only after firing it, if the brass is dented or covered in mud. Very low chance but it could happen.

Yes in real life a weapon can jam being chamber fired but generally it is much easier to clear the round with no magazine present "but not always"

Seams a good idea to gab a spair m4 when ever you get a chance and alway carry a gun repair kit for the dmr it's a good gun but worn after 10 rounds
It's why I always carry an m4, aur ax, two dmr's, and two nvg's at all times. Must have immediately after leaving the coast.

When the update came out I was unloading a badly damaged m4 mag and I was so confused as to why it randomly ruined. I clipped it to make sure I wasn't shot 🤣🤣
The chamber firing jam is completely unrealistic. Lack of mag wouldn’t cause this, lack of a gas system would.
That loading damage is stupid high.
Apparently the ammo jam is vastly different for console.
AUX suppressed w/ 60 rd mag jams far too much "worn" for me than .2% chance. I dont use it for Z dispatcher, only players.
Has anyone else noticed or can confirm whether the DayZ fandom wiki is outdated or least a bit inaccurate? Some of the item stats seem to be redundant to each other or misrepresented, especially some of the equipment sizes and porousness. Only asking because I want to be certain in comparing the states of equipment in determining the true meta items within each item category, specifically considering apparel, shoes and backpacks specifically. For example, from what I can tell, Assault boots and Leather backpacks seem to utterly outclass every other boot and bag of a similar category or archetype, regardless of specific advantages of some other items in their class.
Any input would be appreciated.
DayZ changes so much that yeah the data becomes out of date quickly and it can be difficult to keep track of every change
