How To Make Minced Beef And Onion Pie - Delicious Recipe

- In this video I will show you how to make minced beef and onion pie. This is a delicious recipe. I'll show you how to make the pie crust and then the minced beef filling. This ground meat or mince pie is simple to makes for very cost effective baking.
Here is the whole recipe:
Filling.
250g Mince 1.67
1 Onion 0.09
Celecy 0.06
Stock 0.12
Black pepper 0.02
75ml water 0.00
2 tsp corn flour 0.04
Pastry
200g plain flour 0.10
50g butter 0.37
50g Lard 0.10
Pinch of salt 0.00
5 tbsp cold water 0.00
Total cost 2.53
3 pies @ 0.84
Filling.
Chop the onion and celery and fry over a low heat until soft.
Add the mince and fry until browned.
Add the stock cube and stir in well.
Add the water and cornflour and let it simmer for about 10 mins or until it thickens.
Allow the filling to cool.
Pastry.
Chill the butter and lard.
Rub it into the flour and salt until it becomes a breadcrumb consistency.
Add the water and cut it in with a knife or spatula.
Bring it together lightly and roll into a ball.
Put it in the fridge for 2 hours.
Roll out and line your tin or tins.
Combination.
Line the bottom of the dishes.
Fill with the cooled filling.
Put the lids on.
Crimp and egg wash
Bake in the oven at 170c for 25mins

Another no nonsense, wonderfully explained recipe that even a beginner could try.I commented recently about how refreshing I found the delivery, as well as being informative.i find it a bit petty and strange that people left comments about the fact that the price of the egg wash and cost of cooking time were not given.Give the guy a break, he's doing a smashing job!!!!

@@BakingOnABudget Love your channel and presentation. I might add some diced carrot into the filling for a bit of sweetness, which means the tomato isn't necessary, but left over ragu or even curry could be just as nice.
@@brusselssprouts560 Just celery, gives a nice tang, carrot will change it.
NOBODY else gives the fuel cost for recipes, so some folks must be really stretching to find fault! Next they’ll want to factor in the oven’s cost as well. Some folks are never satisfied.

Thanks a lot, hope you try some of the recipes....and yes many ask for energy costs, which is way too difficult to work out....so I make a point of saying the cost is for the ingredients.
I'd like to see the pastry brush depreciated appropriately as well. It's not like they are free, and you can't use them to apply egg wash to pies infinitely...
I know atomic shrimp did a video where he ran some kitchen appliances (kettle, oven, etc.) and assuming you were going to pay for gas/electricity anyways, the additional costs were much less than 1 dollar (think it was 25 cents or less)

For someone like me just starting to learn to bake these recipes along with the clear and concise instructions are perfect. The breakdown of all the costs etc is excellent & what attracted me to your channel. How anyone can expect you to work out the cost of the oven time is beyond me !

I think you do an amazing job just pricing the basics. It helps a lot. The recipes are awesome too - good wholesome home cooking. I don't think pricing in the baking is necessary. Like you said it's too complicated. I think what you're doing already is a massive help - people know they can cook good wholesome food and it won't cost the earth to do so.

The comparison of home made to bought in a shop is interesting, even though the actual cost where you are may be different. In this case the cost of home made is less than 1/3, a considerable savings, especially when you consider quality and freshness.
The pie looks delishhhhh David, that with some mashed potato marbled with brown fruity sauce and it's a meal fit for a KIng!
Single people should get together and make good wholesome dinners like this, sharing the cost, and it's much better than all the gunk in supermarket pies.

My Dad (RIP) was a wonderful chef/cook/baker, he would always involve myself and my sister in his home cooking when we were rather young. You remind me of him in so many ways. My father was born in Clifden. His grandfather owned Millar’s Mill and Tweeds. He always talks about a dish he ate during the War called Culcannon, or something like that. I would love to know if you have heard of this dish. My father will be 84 years old and hasn’t had this dish in 50 years! We have even been to Clifden and Cleggan and he hasn’t had the meal. I so desperately want to learn how to make it for him. If you know how to make this, I’d love to learn it. I tried one time and royally messed it up. I know it’s from Souther Ireland but I thought since your such a great cook, you might know the recipe.
I have never heard of it, I'm just an enthusiastic home baker, but I will look it up and if I can find it I will include it in a future video. Thanks for watching.

Beautiful Dave, can't beat a good old pie. I batch bake pies quite often to fill the freezer. Then when peckish just take one out reheat it. With some mash and gravy lovely.
What a great Idea. I do this with my biscuits to fill with Bacon, sausage or jelly so I can take them with me to work in the mornings. American biscuits that it. lol
