I used to send songs by email to my dad. This was the last one I sent him. My mom was in the early stages of dementia-he thanked me and said they held hands and listened to it over and over. A few days later they were both killed by a reckless driver. This will be my 2nd Christmas without them and I'm so thankful for this song and for their faith in God.

When he sang this song, I just cried thinking about how my dad and I cannot sing this song or communicate anymore due to his illness. Thank you Mr. Sedaka, it was awesome listening to you in person!! So many MOTHERS deciding they have had enough (of decent, even good, if fallible men) failure to forgive...yes, all kinds of excuses, I know I did that...COULD NOT forgive...now we are each with spouses who are not at all interested in the things and activities and depth of intellectual conversations...we used to read aloud to each other...for years...but he was unfaithful, he didn't want a divorce, he was a good, really good father, still is....but there was no way I could find forgiveness.....now we are "friends", sort of....I am NOT attracted to him, no longer find his extremely pronounced regional accent charming, it grates me..he is not physically appealing, but I miss the things of interest we shared, STILL share! My husband doesn't want to travel to the places #1 and I dreamed of in our 20's and 30's..and #1's wife doesn't want to go with him. We both go WITH OUR GROWN KIDS.... separately.
Do NOT accept the false advice to divorce "for sake of the kids" it does NOT help them in life! It wounds them forever. That was a huge societal, trendy LIE to women back in the 80's.....I bought it. (Hope this keeps at least one woman from breaking up her family.) Get counseling from a pro-marriage counselor. TRY HARDER...P R A Y .
My now husband was damaged from a wife who broke up his family. He is not perfect. WHO is? His kids are major messed up. A hundred times more than my kids. DIVORCE is NOT an answer, believe me. I was so SELF-centered, SELF-seeking. In the 80's it was "Look out for #1" I fell for that LIE.

I have always loved music! This song reminds me of my dad because when I would sing he would join in and sing "Neil's" part. My dad is now 87 and is suffering from Parkinson's disease, he is in a nursing home and he is half the man he was back then but one thing has never changed...THE LOVE I FEEL FOR HIM IS ALWAYS STRONG! HE IS THE BEST DAD IN THE WORLD! It's amazing what that damn disease takes away from a person. I saw Neil sing at a county fair in Miami years ago. It was amazing. He played a video of this song and sang along with it. Some girls sitting next to me were singing at the top of their lungs and I told them I was there to hear Neil sing not them. They stopped singing and then Neil announced to the crowd for everyone to sing along with his songs. After that I moved to the back and tried to just hear his voice among the hundred or so people singing along with him.

This is on of my Favorite Neal Sadaks songs!!! It takes me way back to my innocense...plain and simple :) My heart always fills up. My family was so happy in the those times. I love reminiscing about those times, my mom and dad have both passed on, but the memories....are the best part of me.

I still remember the first time I heard this, Dara was noticeably younger, on one of his specialties. I didn’t know she was his daughter, I was just amazed at the performance, and then thinking how much emotion this girl had. Then she was introduced, and that’s when I started loving my (step)daughter, whom I wouldn’t meet for almost 40 years. Neil, Dara, and this song taught me so much about love, it was only second to may parents.

Heard this song on Zoomer Radio, am 760 out of Canada on a Neil Sedaka, half hour show. They ended the show with this song. How nice and touching. Reminds me of my high school love. I have always appreciated Neils music over the years even though I was into all the heavies back in the day. This collaborations is beautiful! As we get older, and we begin to take time to listen, our depth of enjoyment broadens tremendously...

Thanks for uploading this song. It came to my mind this morning. It reminds me of my young teenager years. Alas, the radio has stopped playing it years ago. It should have been a much bigger hit than reaching only no.19 in Billboard Hot 100 back in 1980.

there's your answer, Rich - 215 (and counting) without a
soul left. Feel bad for these people. I see people from my childhood
and past now empty/dark/sullen due to their second act(s). They didn't
chose a vocation they desperately loved - they choose "Where the job's likely to be."

Usual idiots here commenting their pathetic virtue signals disrespecting the concept that artistry is dependent upon a diversity of tastes and opinions. The only soulless morons here are those stuck in their narrow-minded cultural ruts who think that enjoying something artistic makes you intellectually virtuous. Imagine what a shockingly sad and soulless world it would be if everyone shared exactly the same tastes. There would be no point in being innovative any more.
