    I recently did my 2008 Honda PIlot EXL after I had bought it at 225k. I ended up draining and filling the ATF twice and not changing the strainer/filter. The strainer/filter is inside the transmission. The ATF was still dark-ish after the first drain/fill so I repeated the procedure. I used Honda DW-1. Was shifting well until I broke one of the solenoids when raising the transmission to replace the transmission mounts (unrelated). Put a good Honda solenoid after the first, Chinese one broke in about a a month. It is back in business and shifts great for a car with now about 245k.

      Sounds like a normal day working on cars. :(
      Glad to hear it’s working great after the work. Sounds like you got the issues worked out.
      Hopefully you’re setup for many more trouble free miles!!

    nice video, you explained the procedure clearly. I'm sure you know you mixed valvoline transmission fluid (not Honda) with as many as 5 quarts of whatever was in there. Hope it worked out ok.

      Thanks Joseph!
      Yes, not knowing the history of the service I don’t know for sure that the right fluid was in there, or what brand fluid it even was. I have no reason to believe it was the wrong fluid, so I am just always sure to put in the fluid type call out for by the manufacturer.
      The Pilot is running great and shifting like a million bucks!

    Why do you use the fill plug rather than through the dipstick? Does it matter? The dipstick is so much easier and doesn’t require the long breaker bar

      @bennieaust  15 часов назад +1

      They call it a full plug for a reason. It would be totally acceptable to fill through the dip stick tube as well but it’s quite easy and fast, using the fill plug.

    Why didn't you change the paper filter? Three bolts to remove the cover plate.

      In my opinion, if you change the fluid as recommended by Honda, you will not need to replace the filter.

      The strainer no. But the cartridge filter yes. Definitely change it. The metal shavings from the transmission get stuck there and most will stick the the magnet. The reason the fluid is discolored is because of the mixing of the metal shavings. Always change the filter. If I could get to the strainer without pulling the trans apart. I would do that 1 also.

    It kind of cut out when you said you were taking out the drain plug. Did you say that was a 3/8? I tried my 3/8 Alan and it's too big. Is it maybe a 10 mm?

    • @bennieaust
      @bennieaust  4 месяца назад +2

      It’s a 3/8” square drive. Straight off the ratchet. No bit needed.

    Bought 06 pilot 4wd
    I drained it and 5 quart came out . Initial refill was 4 quart. Did the checking procedures and it was a little too high above the top mark. I had to drain a little out. Drove 10 miles waited next morning. Did the procedure again perfect. Right at top mark.
    I dnt understand why 5 quart came out? I replace with about 3.8 quartz Only.
    I’m having mix feeling now since your pilot you put 5 quartz.
    My old drained fluid was exactly 5 quartz and refilled with 3.8 quartz which was perfectly on top mark.

      Quantities can vary a little. The important part is that it’s at the correct level when you’re done.

      Have you done any service like this. Where more came out and replace with less fluids?

      @@craftmansnapon8035 I don’t ever measure what I drain out so I’m not sure. It’s possible it was overfilled to begin with.

    I have an 06 Pilot with 171K mi. Sometimes in Drive, first gear taking off from standstill, the car won't move, or moves real slowly. When it gets to 25 mph and up it shifts ok. It feels like you are taking off in 2nd or 3rd gear rather than 1st gear. Don't think ATF has ever been changed. Can I do a flush or just fluid change? Can I add Lucas Transmission fix to the ATF? Appreciate any help. Thanks.

      it may be too late it it's never been serviced, and it is displaying issues currently. That being said, I would do this service and use only transmission fluid, not any additives. It may not resolve the issues, but it's inexpensive and worth a try.

    My pilot made some noise. Then now it just rolls whether its i park and when put it in drive and i press gas it just rolls. It makes a whirring noise whenni put it back in drive

    Please I need to know where the filter of that transmission is, I can't see it

    • @bennieaust
      @bennieaust  6 месяцев назад

      It is inside the transmission and only serviceable if you split the cases. Change the fluid as I show in this video and don’t worry about the filter.

      I’m not sure what the washer sizes are.

    • @schifoso
      @schifoso 21 день назад

      I found the answer. 18mm drain plug, 24mm fill plug.
      On a side note, differential washer sizes are 18mm and 20mm.
