I'm BACK! Took a bit of time off to re-energise and reflect, but I think it's time to put the foot on the pedal now 😁 After you've watched the video, I've got a question - which would you now be more likely to buy - newer midrange or older flagship? Usually the US Ebay version has cheaper phones compared to other countries versions and many Ebay sellers do ship over seas for a little extra fee so I would consider looking at that for a cheaper phone.
@@siannn exactly, I got a mint condition used mi 10 (very similar with the mi 10 pro in the vid, just no zoom lens) for about 300 bucks and can't be happier upgrading from a Nokia 7 plus.
@@BigBoss-lm6cf fair but a lot of countries tax phones so its only possible to get a price similar to that is to commit customs fraud which can be risky
Been watching you for years and it has been amazing seeing you pass 10,000,000 subs! Keep up the GREAT work from the US! (P.S. Josh did a great job on your hair!)
Actually, around 2020 - 2021, this is exactly the type of research I went through to buy my most recent phone, and I ended up buying a Sony Xperia 10 iii. Maybe being in Canada affected this choice, but I found that flagships did not drop in price (either used or "sale" priced) to match the mid-ranger until the 3rd year. The first 1.5 years barely touched the price of a flagship, unless you were looking at a badly used unit. Also affecting my choice was the fact that 5G had just started getting into mid-rangers, and I insisted on 5G to insure support by service providers.
I'm a Sony fan, and ..... The Xperia 10 lineup is a joke... The cameras are just meh, the screen and speakers don't feel special , and the processors are slow af, and they use emmc storage .. for 400 dollars!!! The Xperia 5 II is miles better than the Xperia 10 iii
Damn, sounds like Canadians have it rough. I can literally see you guys from where I live, it's a 5 minute walk to the water where I can see Canada. Thankfully I'm on this side where old flagships are cheap and plentiful. Xiaomi 12 pro, $450 when it was only a year old at the time.
Ahh, the long awaited sequel to cheap 2020 phone vs 2018 flagship, great video as always! 👍 Also watching this on an Oppo Find X2 Pro, happy to see it beating the modern midrangers!
@@musaratjahan7954 oh yeah, assuming "quantity over quantity" is what considered bad for samsung phones when Chinese phones are still choking saliva to grasp a fraction of Samsung's revenue, figuring out why😂
I've watched this again after seven months. I still wowed by the amount work put into the video. The color theme througout the video. I'd type two pages if I wanna keep going. Simply put, the video is still not boring 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
my first "proper" smartphone was the samsung s6, after many years i've swapped it for a samsung s20 late last year, and I won't change it too soon, my point: I prefer to buy a 1 year old flagship and use it for a 4-5 years, than get a mid range and change it after 2 years
I’m doing exactly the same but I’m on iPhone Too many people change their iPhone each year In October-November you can find the previous model cheaper and in January after Xmas.. damn 😂
A53 has better battery , 2 more android updates and better screen and better camera but A52s is barely faster I prefer A53 You don't have 6 dollors to buy headphone jack?
Plastic was the reason I chose Galaxy s2 over iPhone 4 back in 2011. Plus, the fact that something is made of plastic doesn’t automatically mean “it feels cheap”. The plastic phones you have there are of a great build quality.
Bruh I used to care about back cover of smartphones once upon a time too. Then I realized that I'm just gonna slap a case anyway so it won't matter. Btw heat dissipated is negligible between materials as Arun once pointed out in one of his videos several years ago
Poco F3 is just what i need for now : - enough charging power (33W) - glass back material - pretty good performance (Snapdragon 870, UFS 3.1 memory) - pretty good connectivity (NFC, BT 5.2, 5G) - mid range price from 2021 (around $350) - good amoled display with 120hz - and pretty good speaker with Dolby Atmos make a good experience when play a game without headset
@@shaddimokhamed8975 that midranger for you my friend. They need to cut some losses at somewhere. But yeah F3 really is a beast at it own class and price range
@@shaddimokhamed8975 true !! but i am not that concern about camera, for me its all about performance ... so Poco F3 is the best budget phone i can get than a flagship ..
The battery isn't necessarily a deal breaker. These days you can't just swap it, but they can replace it at a repair shop for a fair price within the day. That's how I got my old Samsung A5 to serve me for almost 5 years now. The poor thing is about to physically disintegrate at this point from wear but the internals are fine. I plan to replace it soon with a phone you can flash with LineageOS, so no warranty either way and the community gives faster and more system updates than the vendor would. It all points to an old flagship for me. Thanks Arun, I didn't even consider that option!
Yes Understandable Even if it was for the updates the battery would go down in certainly 2yrs of use of a newer phone . So , custom roms are a blessing for using a proper flagship for decent 3-4 yr use imo :D
@@govardhanposina17 at least with iPhones you can get a sealant glue thing that you put in before closing the chassis back up to restore water resistance
Got a Oneplus 7T pro way back in Jan 2020 when it got its first major discount. Still using it with no major complaints in its 4th year... might upgrade soon but only for the misssing 5G feature. A good flagship is built for like eternity 😀
I have a mid-tier phone from 2020 and I have had it 4 years as well. So it's not only flagships that are built to last. A mid tier will last just as long. Difference is that flagships have better performance and don't lag as much.
You aren't missing out on anything good with 5g. UNLESS you live in a city with a STRONG tower, don't expect to get a constant 3 or 5 bars of service. Sure, the speed is GREAT, but I like having good signals.
super relevant video.. i mean its true .. why getting all these lame A53s and m33s instead get an old flagship from sammy or iphone.. better deal than what we have for mid rangers
I'm getting a 'new' phone after Christmas and this is just the sort of video I needed to watch. Really interesting and answered so many of my questions. I reckon I will go for an older flagship. One thing I'd like to see on your reviews (if it is measurable) is how good is the phone reception (we have poor reception at home but my Samsung android is better than my wife's iPhone) and how quickly does the phone locate satellites for GPS (which I don't have on all the time).
I tried a newer A series phone and honestly, it was pretty bad. It worked, but it had frequent freezing and crashing and terrible software optimization. I recently went to the S10e from 2019 and it works great. Very quick still, good battery life, and great gaming performance for those who play games on their phone. "Old" flagships are worth it usually, but some of the A series phones are pretty good.
@@feintexp-2530 Well, yes, but you can buy an old flagship for much less than a newer upper A device. That's sort of the point of comparing these. 2019 flagships still are as good, if not better, than new mid range, the only disadvantage to buying an older flagship is older software.
He did not mention tho that batteries can be replaced for pretty cheap. A secondhand phone with a new battery will perform as new and it's a shame this detail didn't make it in the video.
As someone else said i don't think there are many countries where price has fallen to 450-500 dollars for 2020 flaghships, it dropped to 800 dollars which is double of the midranger's price . Eitherways it's a good video to show how much better newer midrange phones are getting and their limits
I have to say I didn't expect this result. Unfortunately though you can only get an old flagship at a decent price if you buy it on eBay, they still cost too much new at least where I live. And considering all the ways a phone can degrade over time, I don't know if I want to take the risk.
there's eBay certified sellers with large customer bases and shops these are full on companies selleing on eBay If you have any issues they can help there is no risk on eBay
Always go for a previous year flagship if the price is good. They always have amazing hardware and feel premium. They perform good too. The budget ones just don't have the same performance and reliability. I have used old flagships and they last you longer. On the other hand, the cheap one's i bought, start giving problems after a year or two. They just don't have that quality
Sadly, the removal of headphone jack really is the ultimate factor to not get the old flagships. The last old flagship I got is the s10+ (technically not flagship but still expensive at launch). Would've get the v60 but chose to go with the a52s 5g
@@idhamzaharudie depends on your needs. Always buy a device according to your needs. A52s is a good phone. I got ROG 5 though I am just a casual gamer. The phone is amazing, but sometimes I feel that it's just too big and heavy. Should have gone for S21 or S22.
@@idhamzaharudie depends man the newer flagships also dont have a sd card. Iam not realy gonna use headphone jack. If i wanted to i can buy a dongle [I already have for my laptop that have aux aswell as mic and speaker connecter]. For sd card atleast in samsung it supports Nas [mine is old laptop running ubuntu server with docker containers (2tb storage no redundancy)] and cloud store in the file explorer so no big deal . But in that cost you are getting a phone with reverse wireless charging(you could charge the headsets), better componets and some useful things(depends. I like dex and disply over type c,ethernet over type c stuff like that)
- Older battery can always be replaced; - software can be upgraded if you are tech savvy enough/it doesn't really matter if you already have a bug free experience in the current OS setup (Playstore takes care of most of the updates in terms of usability of software more and more nowadays) - Vibration motor, brighter display, fast shutter speed of camera and processing--these things matter a lot in daily use As midranges are purposefully made as "mid rangers" so that it doesn't cannibalizes the flagship market. It's always a better deal to go for older flagships imo.
Why do people care so much about having the latest software updates? Like it's the one thing that has them decide what phone to get. Honest question, but I'd rather get the superior overall experience even if I compromise a bit on software support.
@@alexisaguirrevazquez7900 software is what all of us interact with right after a good build quality of the hardware. Updates are always necessary for more accessible features and ease of use.
It could also depend on how long each device is going to be supported. An older flagship on its last OS / security update, or a new mid-ranger with two or more years to come? I think I would take the mid-ranger.
The thing is how much each point matters to you individually. A lot of people couldn't care less about not having software support, while for other people, not getting security updates would be a total deal breaker, same goes with things like the headphone jack, videogame performance or the flashy features on the flagships
And now I'm going to wait the sequel; "Can a 2024 Midrange beat a 2022 g Flagship?" Keep it up Arun, I'm always updated on your videos, you're definitely the best tech RUclipsr. 😎
The video execution style and your persona literally make me want to watch more. Great job all around and far from the average phone review and your own opinion thrown in. Awesome job, and subbed!
Camera is pretty tricky to compare though, especially in Xiaomi's case. The Mi 10 Pro can probably even outdo Xiaomi 12 Pro in many scenarios, and its camera setup is essentially the same as Mi Note 10 which was a mid-range phone from late 2019 (Mi Note 10's camera was a huge outlier considering its price. Even today, it's hard to find a new phone that rivals it at its launch price, let alone its current price).
@@golddogger9036 It's a pretty great phone if long-term software support isn't a priority (it is after all a 2 year old phone at this point). As great as the aforementioned Mi Note 10 was in terms of camera, it was pretty average in other regards. Mi 10 Pro coupled that great camera setup with flagship SoC, display, etc.
It all depends upon what you want from the phone and your usage. Basically if you just want a phone to browse the web, look at social media, call and msg then mid range is the best way to go. If you play games, use the camera plus everything else then it has to be flagship.
I'm dreading the moment my P30 Pro finally stops working. It's from 2019, and I still haven't found a good competitor to replace it with yet. Damn I wish Huawei could come back with Google apps.
I watched all, but finally, old Samsung Galaxy S9 could record 4K60fps which is no any middle range can do until now. IP68 is matter for me too, and love 3.5 jack and Micro SD support...
Fair warning, I have an s9+ and it lags crazy these days and battery is like 2-3 hrs screen on time. Thats after 4 years of usage so it might be better new, idk. But with no software or security support anymore(and plus my phone carrier is about to drop my phone bc of the volte stuff), im not sure the headphone jack is worth it. I was sad to see it go, and didn't want to upgrade when I had the chance(now I'm saving for a new phone lol) bc of the headphone jack, but I realized I don't use it anymore. My wireless earbuds are a much better experience. Sd card support hurts much more to lose but I already own 2 type c thumb drives, so I can just back up my files that way. An extra step, but not a deal breaker. Id say, if you have the funds to do so, go for something newer.
@@morayoadedapo2457 if it lags you might have too much stuff opened and installed and if you're more tech savvy you could probably install smth like LineageOS to get the latest version of Android on it.
Over the years I have found Samsung to be rubbish. They have built in obsolescence, meaning they will die within 5 years. I still have a BlackBerry q10 which works very well, thank you.
@@TopStayGameAnimation i just cleared the ram yesterday actually so battery life is a TAD bit better, I get maybe an hour more of battery than before. But honestly I'm ready for a change anyway. @@morayoadedapo2457 RIP S9+ though ironically I have the A32 5g now which is exactly like the S9 and i dont experience lag though it's in theory less powerful than the S9+ according to antutu
4:30 Because of this reason and others, I love my S10+, the last flagship line from Samsung to have the headphone Jack and I'll probably keep it for quite sometime more. 😉
I also got an S10+ that I bought for 200$ USD and it's actually incredible for that price IMO and has everything I need, and the headphone jack is a PLUS
Glad he covered the updates issues. Very thorough video! On latest phone purchase ny family split between older samsung flagship and new midrange. The most noticeable difference was that midrange had plastic back and lacked wireless charging. Among features the processor speed and battery are the only things that matter to me. I don't like the trends of modern smart phones of being giant screened behemoths as well as eliminating the headphone jack and removable storage. I am not sure if transition away fro headphone jacks and removable storage is same across cell phone brands though
If you decide on getting an A53, I'd suggest getting the A52S. The stats on paper are almost identical, while the performance is actually slightly better in the A52S, for what is here in Serbia a 200 euro difference.
120Hz on the A53 5G slightly better performance and has a better camera then the A52S a phone after its last phone should never be worse than its last model
Just wanted to say that if you pick mid rangers from certain other brands from similar price ranges as the ones shown in this video, there are multiple that have the 12 GB ram 256GB memory with simply superior benchmarks. Just don't get midrange phones from companies that try to sell you their flagship phones instead.
I've had both flagships and mid-range phones, and I've tried low-end phones as well. Mid-rangers are the sweet spot. Everything you need, nothing you don't. With flagships, you get bells and whistles in the software (like nicer ringtones and fancier transitions), better cameras and screens, better build quality, less or no software bloat, of course the latest SoCs and the fastest and most RAM, and the intangible: it's somewhat a status symbol in many parts of the world. Low-end phones, well, it's like buying a cheap car, right? Better yet, look at smartphones like you would look at a high end BMW, a Camry or Corolla, and a bare bones Nissan Versa.
Mid range phones are perfect for people who legit don’t care about phone specs, just wants something that takes decent-ish photos, calls and texts people I just bought my brother an A53 for Christmas. He came from an S8 which was really laggy and cracked screen. He loves the A53. I myself got a 13 mini. Don’t care for the iPhone 14 or any of these giant phones, and the 13 mini has the same chipset as the iPhone 14 LOL, and still takes fantastic photos and is extremely fast and the battery is insane for such a small device
After doing 2 days of research I came to the same conclusions as this guy. Get an older flagship. I would also say that in terms of hardware the flagships completely dominate, it isnt a tie like he suggested. Fingerprint sensors, facial unlock, wireless charging, _vastly_ better haptics, better wireless chipsets and antennas for wifi and bluetooth, better speakers, etc. Midrangers dont even come close to these features. What they do have is a headphone jack and SD card support, but thats about it.
I was considering getting an A73 as replacement for my A71,which starts to have battery problems, which kinda annoy me(and because i could give it to a friend of mine)...But than i found a "very good condition"(i still have to find even a single micro scratch) Note 20 Ultra for around 100 Euros less than the current A73 retail price..That was not a very hard choice, especially since i wanted a Bronce Note 20 Ultra since i saw the first pictures :D
In Italy you can get second hand at around 350-400€, so yeah it's slightly more than the 400$ budget, but a reasonable one. I'm also expecting to find the others at the same range or a little bit less
Not a bad review but... You was wrong about the warranty. After my S9 + contract was up I decided that I liked it so much that went for the Note 9 as everything at the time was getting hole punches in their screens, and losing the headphone jack so I got a contact on a brand new Note 9, and Samsung still gave me 2 years warranty because the phone was new even though it wasn't the latest model.
New midrange is the 🗝️ if you on a budget. And not the "midrange" from samsung or apple. Go for the ones with better chipset that's close to flagship. Used old flagships have so much disadvantages aside from shorter security support. You're paying 2x-3x the price for slightly better camera than midrange. Also, you need to hunt for those still in good condition.
@@gabrielsmullyan8249 bro what, was it scratched or like B category ? Because I bought my S20FE 5G for 300 and was cheap considering on Amazon they were closer to 400 let alone the s20 ultra
I always had flagship phones which I used them quite a while before replacing, I now have a S20 Plus which I bought in 2020 and before that I had a Huawei P10. Love the way a flagship phone feels and performs and I don't mind getting a new flagship every 4 years or so.
Cause flagships last longer now. Itt uses to be you had to upgrade every 2 years or your phone is useless. Now you can get up to 4-5 years with a Samsung, 6+ with apple. 4ish with a pixel. I'm not sure other brands
The flaw at 4:25 is that companies making flagships “assume you have expensive wireless earphones” but the thing is, wireless isn’t a better format for headphones; it can’t transmit lossless audio and it will always be worse value and sound than a comparable wired set because they have to have a built in DAC and wireless transmitter, a wired set can use the already great DAC your phone comes with and possibly a professional external DAC which will ALWAYS sound better than a wireless one, as someone who streams from TIDAL using nice open back headphones and a Dragonfly Black DAC, the removal of a headphone jack becomes more of a problem the more you spend on audio gear, which people who buy flagship phones are much more likely to drop more cash on.
Oh man...the use of red vs green is just so awesome. The sticker, the wallpapers, the badges, the screens behind....Everything was very helpful in differentiation. Top notch production quality. 👌🏻
still old flagship. l just got a s22 used for $200. resale market is nuts right now. l wouldn't pay more for older tech just because it gets a new skin.
The display and the camera are the only reasons I go after the flagships. I prefer buying a 2 year old flagship. The only thing you miss out on is 1-2 years of support compared to if you had bought it new. Not a big deal if you don't game on your phone. I'm still using a Samsung flagship from four years ago that I purchased two years ago.
I have an A52 5G which I upgraded to from the S8 and I found the A52 to be super unimpressive and some people told me that any new phone is better than the old, I will be showing them this lol. Loved the video
@@ggg-en6hq agree the 52s is the phone the 52 should have always been. It's quicker than my old s10e was and the camera is on par. Battery miles better
I don't know why I watch videos about cell phones since I don't own one. Haven't owned one in almost 15 years. Other then I am just amazed how these companies and telecom managed to convince the general public that they "NEED" a new $1000-1500 phone every year. The most anti-consumer company in the world (Apple) will have lines down the street for the newest iphone all because the new camera on it has 5 megapixel more then last years.
I would likely go with the midrange phone. Wireless charging and other features are cool but I have never used them in the past with flagships. And I don't do intense stuff like gaming on my phone so it would be better for me. Currently have the S21 but will go with a midrange phone in ~2 years when I want to switch phones.
I don't recommend it my friend. I use midrange samsung all my life and bought ipad pro few months ago. I didn't have any complain of my a51 before but after using pro device which is very fast and responsive, I feel annoyed at the slight lag on my phone which I didn't even realize before. So if you already used to the snapyness of flagship phone, the midrange just can't do it.
@@Ria1D13 I would not buy a Samsung midrange phone. I would probably go with a realme or oppo device because they put in better chips for the price. And I will finally be free from using the inferior exynos version of the samsung flagships. If I don't like the midrange phone I can always return it.
As someone who is still on a Samsung Galaxy s9 plus, I appreciate seeing these comparisons. My phone still chuggin along, though I think I am getting to a point of needing newer flagship. They last so long tbh as long as they are cared for proper. And I've still got the original battery in it. 🤘thanks for the video!
Year before I've been using A52 5g , and now I get for my self S20 ultra and I can say this is a huge diference S20 Ultra this is amazing compared to mid range smartphones.
Just the battery degradation is something to think more about. The problem with some brands is that they will sell their devices cheaper but won't let you have the essentials it's like here's a phone and a cable and f off now will you. I wouldn't really go for the previous flagships unless you're capable of taking more risks. 5 months after official release is more than enough time to gather feedbacks from customers that's also a thing to remember.
watching an old (wow 2022 is old now) arun video feels so nostalgic but at the same time shows just how much this channel has improved. this is the pinacle of tech content and this channel has been my favourite since ive started watching tech content. i love it and its just amazing, but at the same time has progressed so so so much. good job arun !
I got an older flagship for my previous phone and loved the advantages, but it only had one year left of security updates before I was vulnerable for years. It was such a stupid reason to replace an otherwise perfectly functional phone. I ended up getting a new base S21, because of that new Samsung software support window, and because it was a flagship on sale without costing nearly as much as an S21 Ultra. I think that's my sweet spot for now
Great video as always, however I have my own thoughts about it. I have a POCO X3 Pro and it is a great phone for my needs and what I was looking in a phone; flagship phones have lost appeal to me, my phone has: headphone Jack, IR blaster, micro SD slot, a Snapdragon 860, 8GB of RAM, a 120Hz refresh rate and an average camera of 48Mpx. Flagships don't have half of the features that I mentioned anymore and I do use them and the camera is not an important feature for me. Flagships cost way more and even that they look and feel awesome, it might have some slight changes but that is all.
NFC, can't forget about this little but useful feature, and, just like you, my X3 PRO is perhaps the best one I've had, considering my "best phones" before where an Alcatel P1 and a Zenfone 4 Max
I wish I could still shill for POCO but the launch X3 Pros had a defect with their PMIC and hence why I'm here 😭. Trying to find a phone to buy that compares to POCO is very hard. If I don't get an 11T I'll prolly get the x4 pro
With the software support side of things (the phone getting updates), as long as the community still supports it, it'll never be behind. People will develop new updates for them through firmware/software modifications, and thus make them last way past the manufacturers own cut-off date for updates
Loved your video as always! But currently I'm pretty happy with my Mi 11x or globally Poco F3 which is priced reasonably and has a Snapdragon 870 in it for the flagship experience!
Yes, buying renewed phones is sustainable but so is buying a flagship phone and keeping it for 4-5 years before upgrading. You may as well get the most use out of it for the money you paid - providing it isn't damaged or broken during that time. I had never had a flagship before the S9+ and was rather apprehensive but over 4 years later, I have no regrets.
I was just looking at the A53 to replace my S9. Now you got me thinking S20 used or new old stock. Though I'd imagine going from S9 to A53 is still an improvement in every way.
@@Cantendo why a52 over a53? The A53 has 2G more RAM, plus a 120hz display vs 90, and a 5000mha battery vs 4500mha, plus faster processor. The only benefit the a52 had was still having a phone jack. The difference in price here is $150.

@@andyfumo8931 Indeed. That phone is just so refreshing. And it lasts well too. All I’ve had to do in the 5 years since I’ve bought it hardware-wise is replace the battery once, and that was just like 5 days back.
I'd much rather have a one year old flagship, especially Samsung. You're getting a lot for about at least 50% to 70% less of the starting price. That's what happens to the S series. And I couldn't care less about the warranty, the only way that warranty is going to help you is if the hardware somehow has some faults (just like in your example). And it's nice to have 4 years of major updates, even on the mid range phones, but for what? After the third major update your phone is most likely to move much slower, given that it is Android and a mid-range, in the end.
Updates are a double edged sword New software is usually better, but updating old phones will slow them down, and mid range devices have less overhead to take that slowdown without it being noticable
I'm on Huawei p40 lite and even after year and half of usage, it's still doing good. I mean I've definitely degraded the battery quite a bit and there's probably a year of updates left but with the new one it got a month ago, it still feels quite good with all that Android 12 Interface

I feel Canada has a very closed minded phone market, would love to see more of these mid-range phones

Plastic was the reason I chose Galaxy s2 over iPhone 4 back in 2011.
Plus, the fact that something is made of plastic doesn’t automatically mean “it feels cheap”. The plastic phones you have there are of a great build quality.
Seems like S21 could be your favourite phone then, plastic back but premium flagship
Bruh I used to care about back cover of smartphones once upon a time too. Then I realized that I'm just gonna slap a case anyway so it won't matter. Btw heat dissipated is negligible between materials as Arun once pointed out in one of his videos several years ago
I agree. Tho I do really like the stainless steel used in older Apple phones. Nowadays tho, I'd take good quality plastic over a glass back.

Yes Understandable
Even if it was for the updates the battery would go down in certainly 2yrs of use of a newer phone .

I have to say I didn't expect this result. Unfortunately though you can only get an old flagship at a decent price if you buy it on eBay, they still cost too much new at least where I live. And considering all the ways a phone can degrade over time, I don't know if I want to take the risk.
Unfortunately, its a sad reality. It is really hard to get a box-packed old phone and if you buy it second-hand, it comes with all sorts of risks.
eBay refurbished has sales for extra 15% off sometimes. Could save a little bit there.
there's eBay certified sellers with large customer bases and shops these are full on companies selleing on eBay If you have any issues they can help there is no risk on eBay

- Older battery can always be replaced;
- software can be upgraded if you are tech savvy enough/it doesn't really matter if you already have a bug free experience in the current OS setup (Playstore takes care of most of the updates in terms of usability of software more and more nowadays)
- Vibration motor, brighter display, fast shutter speed of camera and processing--these things matter a lot in daily use
As midranges are purposefully made as "mid rangers" so that it doesn't cannibalizes the flagship market. It's always a better deal to go for older flagships imo.

Mid range phones are perfect for people who legit don’t care about phone specs, just wants something that takes decent-ish photos, calls and texts people

I still use my p10 lite, but it is starting to show some wear and tear. Might buy an s22+ or a53, not decided yet.
@@Truecrimeresearcher224 true phones now last longer than what we had 10 years ago
I just love the effort and the quality of his videos. They're just so damn good 👍🏾
The flaw at 4:25 is that companies making flagships “assume you have expensive wireless earphones” but the thing is, wireless isn’t a better format for headphones; it can’t transmit lossless audio and it will always be worse value and sound than a comparable wired set because they have to have a built in DAC and wireless transmitter, a wired set can use the already great DAC your phone comes with and possibly a professional external DAC which will ALWAYS sound better than a wireless one, as someone who streams from TIDAL using nice open back headphones and a Dragonfly Black DAC, the removal of a headphone jack becomes more of a problem the more you spend on audio gear, which people who buy flagship phones are much more likely to drop more cash on.
This.
True, but most people don't use TIDAL, they use Spotify/RUclips, where most audio codecs can stream over BlueTooth.
can we all take a moment to appreciate how smooth that catch at 0:56 was?! :o
I had a Deliberation between the A52 and S20fe
Chose the s20fe because of the multitasking work and better performance. Happy with the choice
That's funny as I was looking at comparisons for both them phones recently 😆. I was thinking that the S20FE would be a better choice.
Lol I couldn't get the S20 fe in my country sadly
Just went for an S20 FE as well.

Oh man...the use of red vs green is just so awesome. The sticker, the wallpapers, the badges, the screens behind....Everything was very helpful in differentiation. Top notch production quality. 👌🏻
We need a similar comparison now 2022 vs 2024
Nowadays you can get a "semi flagship" like a Motorola Edge+ 2022 or a Oneplus 10T for under $300, so its not even really a comparison.
still old flagship. l just got a s22 used for $200. resale market is nuts right now. l wouldn't pay more for older tech just because it gets a new skin.
@@ryanwingate2204or even the Redmi Note 13 pro +
The display and the camera are the only reasons I go after the flagships.
I prefer buying a 2 year old flagship. The only thing you miss out on is 1-2 years of support compared to if you had bought it new.
Not a big deal if you don't game on your phone. I'm still using a Samsung flagship from four years ago that I purchased two years ago.
I'd always pick the old flagship. have been using my Note 10 Plus now for 30 months and imo no mid range phone of 2022 can beat it.
Agreed. It is like comparing an older core i7 laptop to a newer celeron.
How did you get used to the lock button being on the left side?

You should have got the S variant of the a52
It's much faster
@@dirtydirtsgt4751 S52????
A52 5G is probably the worst midrange smarthphone, not even better than original A52 4G

Those lines arent people switching every year, those are mainly people with 4-5 year old phones
I would likely go with the midrange phone. Wireless charging and other features are cool but I have never used them in the past with flagships. And I don't do intense stuff like gaming on my phone so it would be better for me. Currently have the S21 but will go with a midrange phone in ~2 years when I want to switch phones.
no
one thing you forgot, mid ra ge lags a lot and since you have used a 120hz phone you will absolutely hate the laggy experience of midrange
@@dayko. samsung is absolute shit
I've had my s9 plus for 4 years now and its still going! Its lasted me longer than any other phone.
I loved this video concept last time it was done, I'm so glad it's back! Fantastic as always, Arun.

You should do a video comparing affordable vs expensive relative to how good they are for how kuch they cost that could be cool ig
This is literally me but with poco x4 pro lol
I wish I could still shill for POCO but the launch X3 Pros had a defect with their PMIC and hence why I'm here 😭. Trying to find a phone to buy that compares to POCO is very hard. If I don't get an 11T I'll prolly get the x4 pro
i have poco x3pro as well, performance wise is very good until now...but camera/video performance is really bad(unreliable)
@@69addict yeah but the best thing to do with a xiaomi phone is to put a custom rom and a gcam, the photos really get a lot better
The Poco F3 + Pixel Experience is like a Pixel 6a
I just wanna mention how freaking beautiful the Find X2 Pro is. It has aged like fine wine

You better go with the S series
Maybe the FE ones
A53 is not good, get the A52S instead. Its cheap nowadays and still pretty good
@@Cantendo why a52 over a53?

Updates are a double edged sword
New software is usually better, but updating old phones will slow them down, and mid range devices have less overhead to take that slowdown without it being noticable
I'm on Huawei p40 lite and even after year and half of usage, it's still doing good. I mean I've definitely degraded the battery quite a bit and there's probably a year of updates left but with the new one it got a month ago, it still feels quite good with all that Android 12 Interface
I have a good phone inside a quality-price range, its the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G, would love to see a review of the Samsung A series and how they evolved.
