@@terrencebrown1274 I also believe D’Antoni has a lot to be blamed for Kobe’s achilles injury, just as much as Thibodeau was to be blamed for Derrick Rose’s career changing knee injury.
You can see the regression this year in the Nets without the Dantoni system. People said he is a choker but the man knows what he is doing offensively.

Mike did so well with the Rockets. His system was perfect for a one star, shooters around that one star system. And his defense is good too. Rockets were a better 3pt shooting then the stacked Warriors. If only CP3 didn’t get hurt. Wish the 2011-2013 Knicks did better.

Steve Kerr stole D'antoni's best ideas. A few improvements (especially deeper rotations and more emphasis on defense) and the right players yielded championships.
@@stevengordon3271 The motion offense that Steve Kerr employed was tremendous help also. Aside from the defense, it was a great move on Kerr's part bc the offense wouldn't get stagnant. W/ Phoenix, they always tried to go for a fast-break or a pick-and-roll/ PnR to a kick out for a 3 for their half-court offense. Aside from the fact that the Suns didn't play defense, their half-court game could be read easier with strong defenses and a great coach such as Pop in San Antonio.
The years he was with the Suns were some of the most fun times to be a Suns fan (and with recent years of course). The 7 seconds or less mentality he let Nash run with was just a blast to watch. Always enjoyed him as our coach.
Got to sit next to him at a rockets game vs pelicans. His wife was very friendly and was talking to my wife normal . I was a bit star struck and said hi to him and he say hello back . I tought that was pretty cool .
For me the greatest time was watching Mike, Steve and Amare' Suns. That was to me, the beginning of the Era we live in now as far as pace and space as with smaller or more athletic players, rather than a focus on the dominant big man and ISO ball like Shaq & Kobe were at the time. We would have a different NBA and who knows what changes if Kobe, Dwight and Steve had won a couple of rings together with D'Antoni. That would have changed so much from Miami winning to Dallas so then LBJ career changes etc etc.. Although in saying that the "what ifs" in the NBA are as old as the game itself.
Steve Nash and James Harden became MVP candidates under D'Antoni. Linsanity probably never happens without D'Antoni. The guy's record as a coach has been up and down, but to me his influence as a coach has had a profound effect on the NBA.

Yeah what has Frank Vogel always been known for? Great defenses and the Lakers had exactly that in 2020 when they provided him with players who could actual defend. Now the their squad can't defend wet paper bag.

As a hoops junkie this man needs to be appreciated for what his offensive mind has done for the game of basketball. Like the west coast offense in football during the 90s, this man changed the game of basketball as we know it.
The league has suffered with the implementation of the zone defense. MDA was one of the first coaches that shows how important spacing is to counter the zone. That 7Sol Suns was the blueprint of how the modern NBA played today.
Well In fairness he had Capela and Dwight for a little. He just had to switch the lineups up a bit for the Warriors small ball lineup. Then once they acquired Russell, they went full in on the small ball stuff.
I hated watching the Rockets' style of play, but I give them credit. Only they and Cleveland had the guts to go for the title against the KD Warriors. They looked at what was out there and made the best team they could. If they go 3/27 from three in that stretch instead of 0/27, maybe they win game 7.
I hope y’all talked about the struggles of putting together the “old veterans” super team. Has it ever worked? I can think of at least 3 Lakers teams that tried and failed. Maybe the Celtics big 3 worked in ‘08 but those guys were still pretty much in their prime.

D'Antoni and Westhead remind me of each other. Great offensive minds playing fast basketball. Both got tough draws with the Lakers and were eventually run out of town. Too bad. If their timing was better they would have had rings too. As you can see from this interview D'Antoni is a great guy. Having always liked Westhead and having had a chance to speak with him once I think he was a pretty great guy too.

Once you miss 10 in a row, you'd figure they realize somethings off and stop shooting 3's. That incredibly rare accent that's a little bit Italian, and a little bit WEEEST VIRGINIAAAA. He gets some flack for some bad situations he's fallen into, but "7 seconds or less" changed the game.

His struggle was he never had a super team on the court. So expectation of having super team on paper and not having them on the floor. I think Vogel faced the same thing this year.
Mike D Always favored the euro style of run and gun with no center or bigs to keep a fast pace game. It was like he wanted to outscore his opponents and not play good defense.

I think the up and down were based on the talent he had on hand and not due to his coaching.

His struggle was he never had a super team on the court. So expectation of having super team on paper and not having them on the floor. I think Vogel faced the same thing this year.

Mike D Always favored the euro style of run and gun with no center or bigs to keep a fast pace game. It was like he wanted to outscore his opponents and not play good defense.
