Been watching a load of You tube videos last few months when fly tying and got to admit yours are the best. Very informative. But what I like best is you camera angle covering hand control, rod /line and build up to takes...excellent.
Thankyou . I am glad you are enjoying the content and you are finding it helpful . For me the take is the best bit of fishing and I always try and focus on that . The tug is the drug as they say ! Thanks again for supporting the channel .
Some great options there for the summer months, at the moment we’re not getting many sunny days but when we do I’ll be ready!
Thanks for videos. great info. Used this method yesterday afternoon at Grafham in flat calm or light ripple. Had refusals to claret so switched to your hare's ear suspended emerger size 12 and crisp packet buzzer size 12. Didn't dare go less than 8lb fluro. Had several fish ran me to the backing. fantastic day with subtle takes to the emerger but savage, finger burning takes to the buzzer.
Excellent . We were there yesterday also , had a couple on the drys myself and a load on nymphs .. incredible takes , and the power in the fish at the moment !! Un real ! .. thanks for watching mate .
Another brilliant video tim m8 nice fighting fish aswel i hate it wen they come and see the net then dart off u just wait on the ping 😂 well done m8 keep up the good work love it 😎🎣🐟
Yea you know its gonna happen ! lol . Thanks for watching
im enjpying these. you explain it so well.
Thanks , im glad you find them useful . I have a lot of fun making these vids .
Great video Tim and well Documented see you Saturday
Thanks mate see you Sat morning
Lovely video cracking looking fish we are just starting to get that type of rise in Last few days still snowing at the weekend in Scotland only 5 degrees on Saturday when popped out for a few hours rain and snow
Yea its been a long time coming down here too . I think we are a good month behind with the dry fly sport but its here now ! .. Thanks for watching
Awesome job mate! Keep up the great work and videos!
Thanks for watching mate
Nice vid Tim.
I had a 12.4lb at chigbrough last week.
Makes a change to see and catch good size trout (only taken 10 years to catch something other than stockies)
Sam normally puts a stock or two of big fish in each year . Its a great draw to the fishery and the quality is superb . The last stock were a cracking average with plenty around the 3lb mark ! Thanks for watching mate
Fantastic! Thank you Tim👍
Glad you enjoyed it
hi my name is Brian. Im 70 years old and although i do like my course fishing being i live mins away from the Dorset Stour and Avon, i do like to fly fish.
I am a member of Salisbury Game Section so get to fish 28 miles of Chalk Streams for less than £300 o year but watching you on still waters is very interesting.
Many of the Still waters around here restrict the numbers of flies to only 1 so could you perhaps do a video using only one fly at a time.
What to choose, when and why.
Regards
Brian
Great idea ! I am a huge fan of single flies so much less to go wrong and excellent presentation . All my new clients use single flies when they start with me and have great success . That's a good idea for a vid . I will get onto it ! Thanks again .
Another great video keep up the good work!! Could you do a video on how to fish a sacrificial buzzer on a team of buzzers from a boat?? Its something iv heard alot about but cant get my head around.
Many thanks
Actually yes , thats not a bad shout ... its the method I used on my last international when we took gold on Grafham ... watch this space !
Thank you!!
Great video by a proper angler.. wish I could catch like that goes to show what a crap angler I am
I am lucky I can spend a lot of time on the water . There really is no substitute for lots of practice . Keep at it and try and pick your days . Keep your set ups simple just pay attention to the details , you will see improvements the more you do it . Thanks for watching
Hi Tim - is there a tackle shop at Chigboro? If not, where do you recommend in the local area? Thanks.
No nothing for miles im afraid . Bring anything you need for fly fishing with you .
Great videos, I used your buzzer tips for the first time last week and it was non stop catching! What net are you using as that looks just the ticket for what I am after?
Excellent ! I glad the tips helped . This is the Wychwood Boatman net . Nice and strong and has a lovely extendable handle . Very robust , perfect for high banks and releasing fish over weed beds . Thanks for watching ...
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 awesome thanks. If you ever fancy a free day on my syndicate lake near Maidstone I would be happy to host you, in return for a few tips in return!
@@Agathescom Sounds great . I might just take you up on that sometime . Thanks .
Can you tel me to straighten my rocket floating line as mine is curling up
Great video Tim. I’ve often thought about combining a buzzer with a dry fly.
Are there any other types of fly you would combine with a dry??
Any small nymph will work , diawls , crunchers . Just nothing to heavy that it will sink the Dry to quickly .
Hi is there a specific reason for the elastic band on the Cork handle? Thanks
Thanks for watching . No .. the elastic band is a teaching aid for securing a leader when we are playing on the grass . Nicely spotted though !
Hi Tim, great clip again. Can I ask how you keep the dry fly floating in a busy session. Thanks Dermot
As in the video , a tiny amount of gink before you start is all you need . If the fly sinks at any point a few quick flicky false casts to dry it , I certainly dont add any more gink as this will sink the fly eventually . After hooking a fish I will dry the fly by rubbing it on my shirt or using a drying patch . It really is something to practice but a dry fly should sit on the surface for quiet sometime on its own .
Excellent video, can you do the same with a popper hopper?
Absolutely .. I love popper hoppers , especially in these conditions , you can pull the fly to sink the fluro without the worry of swamping the fly . Thanks for watching .
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 no problem thanks, look forward to the next one mate.
How soon or hard do you need to strike Tim, had 5 brownies rise to both dry olive patterns I had on today resulting in 0 hook ups. Can't figure out wether I'm too slow or too fast??
It varies on the day mate , but generally i give them a split second to turn their heads over the fly , so not too quick ! If you missed 5 today I would suggest maybe that the fish were refusing at the last second ... maybe seeing the leader or the fly was too big or small ?
Nice video Tim is it the new zealand method you use with the dry and buzzer?
A helpful and informative video as always Tim. One thing I wondered about. Maybe it's the camera angle, but were you holding the rod a fair bit above water level? And if so was this to give more time on the dry fly strike? Timing on the dry can be challenging.
Yes unlike nymphing or lure fishing when you are looking for as little slack in the set up because you are feeling for the takes , with the dry fly its about your reaction time so having the rod off the water a little more than usual puts you in a better strike position . Thanks for watching
I am new to dry fly fishing in still waters. Question for you all, do you grease any part of the leader? Or the leader must NOT be made to float? I grease the leader as well the other evening, I had lots of interests but they turned away at the last second, is my floating leader putting them off?
No for still water fishing , the leader must not float . I usually just degrease the couple of feet up from the fly .. With a team then the whole leader ..
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 Thanks for the quick reply, I know Flurocarbon is denser than water. I find the dry fly gets dragged under water. Could you recommend a brand of leader material for dry fly fishing? Thanks in advance.
@@7pinky791 Wychwood Ghost mode is great for dries in 8lb or 6lb .. thin , supply and wont drag the fly under too quickly
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 Just bought some from ebay. Can't wait to try it out.
Must give this a try on Rutland Water.
Will definitely work . They love a yellow Owl or Big red dry on there !
A lot of places only allow one fly
Yes its a shame really but you have to stick by the fishery rules
Hi Tim I’ve noticed when I fish dry fly the end of my fly line turns almost ninety degrees to the left do you know why?
Thanks
without seeing the line or your set up it would be difficult to tell ... how much line are we talking about .?
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 at a guess 3 to 4 feet
My set up is a 10ft 6 weight fast action using a barrio 5 weight line, 10ft of g3 6lb with a tippet length of 4lb stroft single dry
@@trevorluft1763 Ok I would guess that its the line wt . I would never recommend under weighting a line to the rod .. it works the other way i.e a 5wt rod with a 6wt line . A fast action rod will create high line speeds , this can result in tailing loops , this is exacerbated when the line rating is lower than the rod rating , it results in a timing error normally in that final stroke or two .. this would lead to a turn over failure ...
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 thank you for your insight
That is some crap music intro .
Cool , dont watch it then ...
Can you please stop moving your head all the time
Almost impossible when fishing the dries im afraid .. always watching for moving fish . Sorry lol
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 first time I’ve watched you. Enjoyed but I also find the movement uncomfortable to watch. Some people mount camera on their chest - a different aspect but more stable. Just a suggestion. Thank you for sharing your video, Jill R
I enjoyed the fishing, only down side was the very annoying repetitive music. I want to watch the fishing, not listening to rubbish music.
Turn the sound off ? lol
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 then I miss your advice, which is the important bit. 👍
@@gethinjones8819 Thanks mate . Its a fine balance trying to keep everyone happy . I appreciate the music isn't to everyone's taste but I am trying to appeal to a younger audience too as I think its so important to engage with younger anglers . We all know that numbers are rapidly dropping and part of this reason is the tired stuffy image of fly fishing . It seems to be working as my analytics show a healthy amount of 18 - 25 yos watching . I try not to let it dominate the vids and try to keep all my info sharp and too the point . Thanks for supporting the channel mate .
